Chapter 77: Little Thoughts in the Woods 2
"Ms. Ivy, what happened? Can you recall it?"
Count Waite cut the rope and put it back into his suit pocket.
"After the Earl left, I continued to admire the flowers on the terrace, and then a dark shadow came over and knocked me out. When I woke up, I met you."
Ivy turned her sore wrists and arms and secretly glanced at Count Waite, but it was dark and she couldn't see anything clearly. Only the bright green eyes were shining.
Count White knew she was lying. He didn't say much, but just reached out and stroked Ivy's long hair from her forehead.
Ivy suddenly realized something. She reached out to stop Count Waite's hand, and gathered her hair on both sides to her face. A sour and uncomfortable feeling surged in her heart.
"I'm sorry, my Lord, I made you laugh at my appearance."
In front of the person she admired, Ivy suddenly felt unwell all over. It seemed as if her body had nowhere to rest and the air around her did not belong to her.
"of course not."
Count Waite smiled and put her hands down, then tucked her hair behind her ears.
"A lady is beautiful at all times. I have no right to make irresponsible remarks about a beautiful lady and impose my male perspective on you."
A gentle warm current flowed from the bottom of her heart to her whole body. Ivy looked at his emerald eyes with surprise and relief, smiled at him unconsciously, and as always, lost herself in Count Waite's gentle eyes.
Somehow, Ivy suddenly wanted to praise him under the moonlight:
"My Lord, your eyes are so beautiful, like emeralds."
Ivy looked into Count White's eyes, which were clear and pure.
"Emerald? Haha, thank you for the compliment." Count Waite laughed out loud rarely.
"Really, I like emerald bracelets very much. I can bring you one next time."
"Then I'll always be looking forward to Miss Ivy's gift."
Ivy continued to look into Count Waite's smiling eyes. At this moment, she hoped that time could stop, at least to let her count the stars and shooting stars in Count Waite's green eyes, so that she would have enough time to wander in the gentle green waves.
Another loud noise was heard in the distance, completely destroying Ivy's girlish fantasy.
"Cough cough..."
The two of them coughed twice at the same time, pretending to be inadvertent, and an awkward silence spread in the silent woods.
Finally, it was Ivy who spoke first, breaking the awkward atmosphere in the woods: "Count Waite, what happened over there?"
"It's a long story, but from what I gather, the Dullahan has been released."
"The Headless Horseman?" Ivy looked at Count Waite in confusion. "What is the Headless Horseman?"
"He is an evil spirit from hell. He was an Irishman in his lifetime. He received several awards from the monarch and became extremely conceited and arrogant. Finally, he was beheaded by the enemy in a battle."
Count White helped Ivy to stand up and brushed off the dust on her body.
"But his resentment after death refused to dissipate. He rode his undead horse around the land all day, chopping off the heads of people he saw to satisfy his so-called 'chivalry'."
"It's the aftereffects of war, PTSD. It affects me even after death." Ivy muttered.
"Hmm? PTSD, is that a term from your time?"
Count White had sensitive hearing and heard everything Ivy muttered.
"Yes, he is also a poor warrior."
Ivy tried to take two steps forward, but her entire left leg was numb, and she could not take more than a few steps even if she limped.
Count White looked at her in front of him, and finally he simply held her back with one hand and her legs with the other, picked her up horizontally, and walked quickly towards the mansion.
"I'm sorry, I didn't get your consent, but it's too late now. Next time I will ask for your permission first."
Ivy felt dizzy for a moment. The moonlight shone on both of them. She could feel Count Waite's warm breath and her own heart beating like a deer.
Ivy put her hands on Count Waite's broad shoulders. After the aftershock of shock, she blushed and her heart beat fast, which made her smile slightly during the bumpy ride.
"He said there would be a next time!"
Ivy thought secretly in her heart, and her heartbeat quickened again.
"He was indeed a pitiful man when he was alive, but now he has fallen into hell. He signed a contract with the former Duke and harmed countless people." Count Waite took the time to respond to Ivy's previous muttering.
"Yes, it is."
A muffled thunder struck Ivy, and the cloth-covered mallet struck the secret drum in her heart.
Ivy's heartbeat remained the same, but it was replaced by endless guilt and fear.
