Operation Red Book

Chapter 143: Escape from the Cannibalistic Welfare House 1

"Heh... Ha! Damn it, he's really relentless!"

Morris was so tired that he was sweating profusely. His clothes were soaked with sweat and the white bandage had long been stained with blood.

He struggled to lift a sack full of corn and threw it with all his strength onto the pile of goods in front of him.

As if he had accomplished some important mission, he breathed a sigh of relief and fell exhausted into the straw beside him.

The goods in front of him had piled up into a small mountain, tightly blocking the secret passage leading from the storage room to the underground.

"Hahaha! Come on, let me see how you catch up!" He laughed crazily, his muscles cramping constantly.

The sound of his heart beating wildly in his ears was like thunder, but it inexplicably calmed him down.

There was a noisy sound of running outside the wooden door, mixed with a few childish whispers.

Maurice didn't care about all that. He lay weakly on the straw and looked sideways into the dark depths.

A piece of the fuse buried in the straw was exposed, and Morris' eyes once again flashed a cunning light.

"Don't be in a hurry. Wait slowly. Once you have recovered your strength, you will still have time to run."

"Just remember to destroy all evidence before you leave..."

Morris closed his tired eyes and breathed a long, heavy sigh.

It was getting noisier outside the door. Although it was nothing to the exhausted Morris, the sound of those childish voices became clearer and clearer.

Morris opened his heavy eyelids. Perhaps because he felt much calmer, the conversation outside the door unexpectedly broke into Morris' ears.

"Did you see clearly? There's only Dean Morris, but no Uncle Sherlock?"

"I hid here and watched for a long time, and I can confirm that he is the only one in there."

"Okay, everyone on the first floor has evacuated, but there are still some people on the second floor. We need to hurry!"

"I remember there was a big barrel of Ms. Maggie's wine in the restaurant..."

"What do you want to do, Emily? Just lock him up and tell the sheriff later, right?"

"Do you want to do that?"

"I have to say, I think the same thing as you."

Judging from the voices, it seemed to be a boy and a girl. The boy's voice sounded familiar, and Morris seemed to have heard it somewhere before.

But he couldn't remember it. He only remembered the voice of the nobles, especially the beautiful woman covered in jewels...

Before he had time to think about it, the sound of clanging iron chains interrupted Morris's beautiful dream of the future, and the sound of the lock closing made Morris even more nervous.

"No! No! There are still people here!"

Morris stood up with difficulty, but the muscles in his limbs were so sore that he could hardly support his heavy body.

He fell to the ground, begging outside the door in a hoarse voice, while crawling towards the wooden door while enduring the pain.

"He's found us, hurry up, hurry up and get it here!"

The girl at the door heard the noise in the storage room and her voice became hurried.

"It's me! I'm Dean Morris! Get me out!"

Morris felt like there were ten thousand ants running on a hot pot in his heart. His face turned red and his voice became hoarse.

"We knew it was you, so we locked you in." The woman's voice was trembling, and the anxiety in her words was even stronger.

"You've hurt so many of our companions. We can't let you go like this."

"Go to hell, you must atone for your sins."

Suddenly, a large amount of transparent liquid gushed out from the crack in the door. The liquid rushed towards Morris like a surging wave, and soon filled half of the storage room.

A strong smell of alcohol came over, and Morris sniffed the familiar smell and immediately understood their intention.

An ominous premonition rushed to his mind. He looked back at the large amount of dry yellow straw. The fallen fuse was undoubtedly stained with a little alcohol.

"No! You are so brave, stop it! I said stop!"

Morris once again moved towards the entrance of the secret passage that was blocked by a large amount of cargo, but his muscles were already overloaded and he could no longer exert any strength.

There was the sound of a fire at the door, and Morris watched a tiny flame coming out from the crack in the door.

The blue flames ignited the liquor on the ground like a tide. The flames burned quickly and spread even faster.

A raging fire started in the storage room, baking the earth-yellow walls and making them crack.

The flames rushed in violently, and soon burned half of the space.

"No! No! You ungrateful bastards, I'm the one who took you in!"

Morris looked at the flames climbing up his body in horror. His pupils shrank, and his eyes, which were only a small slit from being smoked, watched the flames burn on the goods, on the ground, and on the straw...

Before long, the exposed fuse will be covered with small flames.

"Let me out! Quick! Quick! Quick! Ah——"

A tiny flame finally lit the fuse, and the crackling sound was infinitely amplified in Morris's mind.
