Red Mansion and Crimson Pearl

Chapter 22: Get rid of this trouble

When Lin Daiyu arrived at Jia's grandmother's main courtyard, there was already an atmosphere of panic and tension inside.

Although the courtyard was as tidy as usual, and the maids and servants were doing their jobs and not panicking, everyone's face was tense and their mouths were tightly shut. No one dared to laugh or joke, and no one would say a word if they could communicate with their eyes.

Especially now that all the female members of the family were in the room, Jia She, Jia Zheng, as well as Zhen, Huan, Cong and the others, did not want to crowd in the room, so they simply stood near the steps outside the door, exchanging their concerns in low voices.

Because Lin Daiyu lived far away and was the last to be notified, she arrived the last - Li Wan and Lang Ge'er also rushed over, but they entered the door before her and hurried into the house.

Fortunately, Daiyu had just met everyone during the day, so she didn't feel too embarrassed.

Seeing her pale face, everyone knew that she had always been in poor health and had been suffering for the whole day. Now that they saw her rushing over, they also understood her slowness.

There were only one or two people who didn't open their eyes and sneered in the crowd: "Didn't they say that the hospital would be closed..."

"It's not right, old lady. She is your granddaughter. Even if she enters the palace and is sealed, she has to come out!"

"If that's the case, why hasn't the Queen come out yet..."

"You are just being rude..."

Jia Zheng coughed and took a step forward: "You came here too? It's late at night and the wind is cold, why don't you wear an extra layer?"

Lin Daiyu bowed politely: "Hello, second uncle. I came out in a hurry, so I don't feel cold. It's okay. I'll go in first."

"Okay. The imperial physician is inside." Jia Zheng told her considerately.

Lin Daiyu hummed, held Zijuan's hand, and lightly moved to the door of the room. But the door opened, and an old doctor came out under the guidance of Jia Lian.

Lin Daiyu lowered her head and turned sideways to avoid it.

Jia Lian was now afraid of Lin Daiyu, so he quickly stood over to block the doctor's view of her, and greeted her with a smile: "Sister, are you here?"

Lin Daiyu nodded gently: "Second Brother Lian."

Jia Lian then whispered to the imperial physician, "My father and uncle are over there. Please explain a few things to me first." He led him down the stairs and walked towards the men.

Hearing this, Lin Daiyu simply stopped and listened.

"The old lady must have been too busy, and she was also upset due to the mixture of sadness and joy, which made her a little unwell. Now, as long as she rests peacefully, she will be fine.

"I'll write you a prescription. You should take it for three days. If you feel better, that's fine. If you still don't feel better, I'll change the medicine. But there is a rare medicine in this prescription. You have to look for it carefully in your house."

The imperial physician paused and said, "We need a hundred-year-old ginseng."

When everyone first heard it, they thought it was some kind of dragon liver and phoenix gall, but when they were told that it was just a hundred-year-old ginseng, they all breathed a sigh of relief and smiled.

Jia Zheng looked at Jia Lian, but Jia Lian frowned and said, "Lady Wang was not feeling well the other day, and she needed medicine, so I sent the one I had at home over there first. Do you have any over there, Brother Zhen?"

"I collected two of them originally, but they have been stored for a long time and are a bit rotten. I gave them to my eldest wife for her birthday a few days ago, and my wife just stewed them and ate them." Jia Zhen laughed and turned to look at Jia Lian, "Why don't you go to Xue's house and ask? He has a herbal medicine shop, so they have the most of this stuff."

Jia Lian suddenly realized it and turned around to look for it. He saw Xue Pan in the crowd and stepped forward to hug his shoulders and said something. Xue Pan patted his chest and promised: "I'll ask someone to look for it. It must be there!"

When Daiyu heard the word "ginseng", she knew everything was fine and walked into the house.

Inside, Mrs. Wang was covering her face and sobbing.

Mrs. Xing leaned close to Lady Jia's bed and whispered to comfort her: "She is just an ignorant aunt. Why are you so angry about a few beatings?

"Yuanyang, you should have said this to the Second Master in private. Why did you bring it up to irritate the Old Lady?"

Aunt Zhao and Tanchun knelt there, silently lowering their heads and wiping their tears.

"This is not Sister Yuanyang's fault, it's my fault." Lin Daiyu said as she walked to Lady Jia's bed.

She knelt down and saluted Xing, Wang, Feng and the others. When she saw Lady Jia extending her hand to her, she stepped forward and shook it. Then she sat down beside Lady Jia, straightened her back and smiled:

"Sister Yuanyang went to see me. She saw my eldest sister-in-law coming back from outside, crying in anger. Sister Yuanyang and I naturally wanted to ask her the reason.

"My sister-in-law wanted to just brush it off, but my aunt also knows me, and I'm not one to let her off, so I have to ask her out.

"My eldest sister-in-law originally said that I shouldn't tell the old lady, fearing that she would be angry. But logically, my eldest sister-in-law is the master, and the concubines in any room are also servants. No master would be bullied by a servant. Moreover, the implicit meaning of these words is to spare me, a guest.

"But the second wife and the second master have both retired and don't care. So what should we do? Does the eldest daughter-in-law of the second house have to ask the master and his wife of the first house to make the decision when she is angry?

"So I say that this trend should not be allowed to continue. Sister Yuanyang, please come back and tell the old lady."

Lin Daiyu looked at Grandmother Jia apologetically and bowed her head, saying, "I just didn't expect that I would actually piss off the old lady. Please don't blame the victim, the elder sister-in-law, or Yuanyang who obeyed orders, but only blame me, a conceited and willful girl!"

Grandmother Jia laughed, and although she was weak, she had obviously calmed down a little. She patted her hands and whispered, "You did the right thing.

"Just to pretend that everything is fine in front of me, are you going to allow the servants to bully the master to death? Then what about the rules and justice?

“Yuanyang and Zhu’er’s daughter-in-law also have good intentions, and they are not wrong.

"It's just that this gossipy wife keeps causing trouble! My good Third Girl has been dragged down by this bastard aunt!"

As he said this, he looked at Madam Wang coldly and said, "Go out now and discuss this with your master. People like this should either be killed, sold, or kept on the farm to fend for themselves. It's your choice."

"Please have mercy, madam!" Tanchun's face turned red with anxiety, and she cried and pleaded for Aunt Zhao.

Aunt Zhao also burst into tears: "I gave birth to a son and a daughter for the master. Even if I have no merit, I have worked hard. I will change in the future. Please spare my life, old lady!" As she spoke, she actually crawled to the front of Lady Jia's bed.

"You think you have done a great deed by giving birth to his two sisters, so you keep making trouble every day!" Grandmother Jia spat in his face!

"It is thanks to me that Tan'er was raised by me since he was young that he has the breadth of mind and experience he has today.

"Look at the one Huan kid asked you to raise. He is a wretched person with rude manners! He is a bad boy all day long. All he can think about is how to harm his brother! Do you think I don't know?

"Now that you, the evil, have been driven away, my Tan'er will have a good future ahead of him. Without your instigation, Huan will be able to walk the straight path, how great!"

He pointed at Madam Wang and shouted, "Why aren't you going yet? My son is still alive, are you going to disobey me?"

Without waiting for Madam Wang to stand up in doubt, he sneered, "That's right! My son is worse than a dead man in front of his wife!!!"

Mrs. Wang blushed and hurriedly retreated.
