Something happened. This is not going to be bloody.

Chapter 10: Abandoning Husband and Children - Seeking Profits and Avoiding Harms

Wan Xin and Liu Wuqing's two children are both sensible and obedient.

The two children were sent to their grandmother's house. They did not cry or make a fuss. The elder brother Liu Tingyan held his younger sister Liu Tingfang's hand the whole time. The six-year-old brother took care of the four-year-old sister. Although they were young, they knew that something had happened at home.

After the two children finished their breakfast, Aunt Zhao Wenya told them to keep an eye on the gate of the yard and to call her if their mother came.

It's about ten o'clock in the morning.

Liu Tingyan saw through the window his mother slowly approaching on the road.

"Aunt, my mother is here, I saw her." Liu Tingyan took his sister's hand and ran to the door of his aunt's room and shouted.

"Got it, you two hurry up and pack your things, I'm here to pick you up."

Actually, there was nothing to pack for two kids. They didn’t bring anything when they came.

The old couple of the Wan family and Wan Heng, the elder brother of the Wan family, all have jobs, and only the sister-in-law Zhao Wenya is recuperating at home because she just gave birth to her second child. She let the two children look out the window because she didn't want her sister-in-law to enter the courtyard. After all, the situation is very tense now. What if someone says that they are plotting something? If it weren't for the insistence of the elderly and husband in the family, she would not want to take in the two children.

Zhou Leng, wearing patched clothes, walked to a place a few steps away from the Wan family's yard. Zhao Wenya came out of the side room carrying a bag and followed by two children.

The Wan family’s small courtyard is somewhat similar in structure to a siheyuan, but it is not as stylish as a siheyuan. They are all self-built houses with bricks purchased by the family, and look a bit compact and cramped.

Zhou Leng looked at Zhao Wenya's unnatural expression and the figure blocking the door, and she knew what the other party meant. She stopped and stood still, then took the initiative to greet him:

"Sister-in-law, I'm sorry to have caused you trouble these two days. I'm here to pick up the child."

Zhao Wenya looked at the sister-in-law who stopped and the polite words she said. She smiled a little embarrassedly at first, then handed the bag in her hand over enthusiastically and said:

"This is what mom left for you. It's a teacup that dad's work unit gave out, and mom bought cotton hats for the two kids. We don't have much left."

Zhou Leng took the things and said:

"Thank you, sister-in-law. I wanted to come in the evening so I could meet my parents, but it would be hard to explain if someone saw us at night. I'm afraid I'll cause trouble for you. There are not many people around at this time, so I won't stay any longer. Sister-in-law, I'll take the children and leave first."

"Go slowly, your nephew is still in the house, and I dare not leave for too long."

The two sides said goodbye, one turned and left, and the other went into the yard and closed the door.

Zhou Leng held the bag in his left hand and held Liu Tingyan's hand with his right hand. His right hand was also holding his sister Liu Tingfang's. The three of them slowly walked away.

The two children didn't say a word from beginning to end, but were secretly watching Zhou Leng's expression change.

Six-year-old Liu Tingyan looked at his mother's face before he spoke: "Mom, didn't you say that we should stay at grandma's house for a few days? Have we finished our family affairs?"

"It's done. Mom will tell you that Dad has a problem with his job. Our family may have to go to the forest farm in the north. Go with Dad. The living conditions there will be difficult, but as a family, we are not afraid of anything, right?"

"Mom, I will take good care of my sister. We are not afraid of hardship. Mom and Dad, please don't separate."

Liu Tingfang looked at her brother and mother looking at her in confusion, and she smiled and nodded.

Zhou Leng stared at Liu Tingfang and continued on her way, but she felt that her daughter seemed a little slow to react. Recalling her original memory carefully, her daughter spoke very little in front of her and seemed to react a little slowly, but she was not stupid. She thought that this child was probably less intelligent than normal children.

Zhou Leng asked, "Tingfang, did you listen to your brother at your grandmother's house?"

The little girl had two pigtails and nervously held her brother's hand. She was thinking about how to answer her mother so that she would like her.

Liu Tingyan turned his head to look at his sister and whispered encouragement: "It's okay, don't worry, think about it slowly and then say it out."

The little girl thought hard, and after the three of them had walked a dozen steps, she said, "Mom, I listen to my brother very much, and I am not afraid of hardship."

Zhou Leng said in an affirmative tone: "Fangfang is great, then you can go back and choose the things you want to bring, and then carry them yourself, okay?"

"it is good."

A minute later, Liu Tingfang smiled and nodded. She said, "It's great that my mother praised her today. Her mother had never praised her before. She was really happy today."

It was already noon when the three of them got home. Liu Wuqing, who never cooked, heated up the mixed flour pancakes left over from the morning and prepared some pickles. This was the family's lunch.

Although there was no aroma of food, there was still a warm atmosphere waiting for the three of them.

The two children were not as nervous as they were when facing Zhou Leng. They rushed towards Liu Wuqing together and were picked up by him again.

The original father was a doctor and was usually busy. Liu Wuqing was the one who told stories to the children and picked them up, so the two children were naturally closer to their father.

The smiling faces of the two children drove away Liu Wuqing's inner uneasiness.

Liu Wuqing looked at his wife at the door and said, "Is everything going well? I heated up some pancakes for you to eat when you get back."

Zhou Leng replied: "Nothing is wrong, pack up today and we will leave tomorrow."

"it is good."

The family gathered around a plate of pickles and ate mixed-wheat pancakes. Liu Tingfang frowned and ate with difficulty. Usually her family ate fine grains, and the rough mixed noodles were a little hard for her to swallow.

Zhou Leng wanted to comfort her, but he still imitated his original self and remained silent.

Liu Wuqing noticed the child's mood and whispered, "Fangfang, our family may have to eat some food that we haven't eaten before. You have to get used to eating whole grains, okay?"

Liu Wuqing waited quietly for his daughter's reply.

"I understand. I'll get used to it. Fangfang is awesome. That's what my mom said." After Liu Tingfang said this, she glanced at Zhou Leng shyly.

"What mom said is the truth. Come on, Fangfang." Liu Wuqing replied.

Zhou Leng was thinking in his mind that it seemed that the step-husband knew about their daughter's situation, but he never mentioned it to the original body. He didn't know if it was because of the original body's usual attitude of favoring boys over girls that made him choose not to communicate, or if he thought his wife already knew about it and didn't want to mention it, so he kept silent about it.

The couple seemed to have never opened up to each other, and at most they treated each other with respect.

After the family had a simple meal, they began to pack the things they would take to the forest farm. Actually, there were not many things in total, just two thick clothes, two thin clothes, and two newly made quilts for each person.

Both children packed their own small bags, which contained bowls and chopsticks wrapped in clothes. All they could bring were eating utensils, their few clothes, and the remaining food and daily necessities at home.

Finally, all the items were sorted out, and Liu Wuqing was responsible for carrying a large backpack half a person's height that Zhou Leng had sewn with sturdy cloth. It contained some remaining food and heavier daily necessities.

Zhou Leng's backpack contained lighter quilts and clothes.

The two children's backpacks contained their own bowls and two pieces of clothing.

At night, the family of four slept in one bed, which was a rare occurrence. The adults tried their best to calm the child's fear. Zhou Leng slowly fell asleep in the low voice of Liu Wuqing.

Wan Xin's parents' home and Liu Wuqing's parents' home were sleepless. They had no other options but to avoid suspicion. They could not visit or say goodbye, and even tried not to let strangers know about their relationship. They could only use their bodies to make pancakes on the bed in the sleepless night.

It is rare that the Wan family can take in two children temporarily. It is human nature to seek good fortune and avoid danger.
