Hogwarts and the Atypical Wizard

Chapter 43: Schlumbergera and the Promise

After Charms comes Herbology.

The first week of the herbal medicine class was spent studying daisies, and then they moved on to lovage, aconite, and are now studying Christmas cactus.

"Who can tell me what Christmas cactus does?" Professor Sputlow always had a gentle expression and, of course, always wore her patched hat and had mud on her robe.

No one answered first, so Saiens took the initiative to speak, "Professor, Christmas cactus, also known as the disarticulated centipede, has the function of detoxification and swelling. It is often used to eliminate swelling and sores, and sometimes it is also used to treat mumps. It can be used alone or prepared to reduce swelling."

"Very good, ten points for Hufflepuff."

Our own dean is still the best. He never hesitates when giving extra points.

"Come, look, these plants with thorns on their bodies and red flowers on their heads are Christmas cacti. This plant can be found in both the magical world and the Muggle world, but they differ in size.

You may have heard rumors that a Muggle was strangled to death by a pot of flowers he grew. Muggles may find a reason to say that the flower grower was stupid and lost his life.

But sometimes we find that some of these examples include Christmas cactus.”

Many young wizards showed fear on their faces when they suddenly came into contact with such dangerous creatures.

Ben and Adam huddled close to Sainz, as if this could give them some courage.

"You are too nervous, these in front of us are obviously still larvae.

They are still in small pots, the largest one is only about 20 centimeters tall, and the serrated stems have no more than four or five nodes, so they are not very dangerous.

Although the edges of its stems are serrated, it is not poisonous and poses almost no threat to any wizard.

As long as you don't encounter a mature one that is four or five meters in size, it's fine.

In fact, even if you encounter a mature form, you don’t have to be afraid.”

"Mr. Autumn is absolutely right." Professor Sprague was very satisfied with this student. "I heard you say just now that there is no need to be afraid if you encounter a mature form. What would you do if you encountered one?"

Everyone looked at Sainz, whether they were Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw.

"Professor, as far as I know, Christmas cactus and Devil's Snare have many similarities, the most important of which is that they are afraid of light.

Devil's snares usually live in dark environments, so it's easy to imagine that they are afraid of light.

However, Christmas cactus is a creature that lives in an open environment and is afraid of light, which is a point that is easily overlooked.

Their mature bodies both have multiple long stems. The difference is that the stems of the Devil's Snare are round and smooth, while the stems of the Christmas cactus are flat and segmented, and have serrated thorns on the edges.

The way they attack people is basically the same, they all use long stems to tie people up, and the more they struggle, the tighter they become, and they may eventually break their ribs or strangle them to death.

"So how do we deal with them?" Cedric asked.

"That's what I was going to say. I just said that they are all afraid of light."

"I see. It means to use the Lighting Charm."

"Yes, just like that. Lumos (fluorescent flashes)" A ball of light appeared at the tip of Sainz's wand.

He moved the tip of his wand close to the Christmas cactus in the pot, and as the ball of light approached, all the little wizards saw its stem begin to twitch.

Science gradually increased the intensity of the light ball, and one could see that the serrated stems of the Christmas cactus began to scatter.

"Very good, very vivid presentation. Twenty points to Hufflepuff for the Christmas cactus and the Devil's Snare.

If you accidentally encounter these two magical plants, you can deal with them in this way, but don't panic.

Okay, now, everyone try to drive it away by yourselves. Don't worry, they are still infants, not dangerous, and even their thorns are soft. You are wizards, and wizards should be able to deal with them naturally."

Professor Sputlow's estimate was obviously a bit optimistic. Apart from Sainz, the only people who could really benefit from the intensity of the Light Spell were Cedric, Florence, Frieda, Drizzt and a few others.

If we really get to Devil's Net with this lineup, we will be wiped out as a whole.

Sainz carefully observed Professor Spoutlow's expression. She didn't look disappointed or angry at all. Perhaps in her opinion, this phenomenon was very normal.

Come to think of it, they are just a group of little ones who have just started learning magic for two months. We can't ask for more.

The History of Magic class in the afternoon was the children's break time as usual, and the get out of class ended on time at 4:00 p.m.

November 1st is Halloween. Every year on the eve of the festival, Hogwarts holds a Halloween dinner. Yes, it’s tonight at 8 o’clock.

It was still early, so Sainz continued to roll into the Room of Requirement.

When he reached the armor corridor on the fourth floor, a suit of armor suddenly reached out to grab him. To be honest, if he wasn't a little wary of everything, he might have been scared by it.

"Fruiziying (Freeze everything)." Sainz pointed with his light blue magic wand, and the full body armor that had collapsed one step immediately froze in place.

"Peeves, you're still so uncreative."

"Impossible, how did you guess it again?!" His sharp voice was full of anger.

"Another failure. This is the nth time. The first time this week, the eighth time this month, and the twenty-fifth time since I entered school.

I remember we made an agreement, I believe you won't go back on your word."

"Of course not. Peeves is not a coward who cannot stand defeat. If I cannot catch you after thirty consecutive pranks, I promise that I will never trouble you again, and I will provide limited help when you need me in the future."

"Since you still keep your promise, I will leave first. You can take your time to think of your next prank."

Sainz released the restraint of his armor and walked past Peeves without warning, heading upstairs.

Peeves didn't attack from behind, not because he was really a gentleman, but because this method had been used before and proved to be ineffective.

It is easy to guess who Peeves is, this troublemaker. It seems that the purpose of his existence is simply to cause trouble.

It is true that he is a professional troublemaker, but he has never left Hogwarts and has always been in contact with simple little wizards.

All of his methods of making trouble were practiced or learned on children.

How many ideas can a child have that could actually harm others?

If you play chess with a bad chess player, you will never become a national player; similarly, if you follow a child and make trouble, you will never become a truly deep-minded and despicable adult.

So, even though it has existed for thousands of years, its methods of playing pranks have never really been upgraded.

It's just a few tricks over and over again, either relying on your invisibility, or close attack, or long-range throwing; or deliberately making a grumble when you make a mistake so that everyone knows and the professor or administrator will come forward to punish you.

However, since entering school, Sainz has never violated school rules in public and has never been out at night, which directly destroyed his possibility of relying on others to achieve success.

The only thing left for him to do is to take action himself, which is easy to do. He just needs to be vigilant at all times in public.

Just treat it as training his vigilance. Can Sainz say that his extrasensory spell has never stopped?
