[British and American] Jason Wayne's Struggle
Chapter 9 Chapter 9
Jason thought that classmates in aristocratic schools might be a little difficult to get along with. After all, before he entered elementary school, he had conflicts with others countless times over minor quarrels.
Who told him that his parents were the kind of people who were prone to gossip? If Jason's father was scolded by others, he would not bother to care, but if someone said something bad about Catherine, even if those people were telling the truth, Jason would raise his fist without hesitation.
But surprisingly, Jason's classmates all had a good attitude towards him. Some were very friendly, and those who didn't want to get close to him kept a polite distance.
Jason soon realized the reason - his current adoptive father was Bruce Wayne, the richest man in this city and ranked second on the list of the richest people in the United States, second only to Tony Stark in New York. This was enough to ensure that most people would not make trouble for him in front of Jason.
This school has two teaching buildings, both of which were donated by Wayne Group.
Jason himself adapted well to the new learning environment. He had a good brain, learned things quickly and was good at applying what he had learned to other situations. He was passionate about learning and was able to calm down and concentrate on completing all the courses assigned by the teacher. Bruce also hired several tutors to give him extra lessons and teach him some basic foreign languages. Jason discovered that he had a good talent for languages.
He also has a good talent for sports. He runs fast and has quick reactions. He scored two goals when he played football for the first time in physical education class. He never refuses his classmates when they seek help from him, such as asking questions. One month after he entered the school, he had a fight with a school bully who collected protection fees.
You have to know that Jason often fought when he was a homeless street kid. He could even knock down an adult with a steel pipe and a crowbar. Now he has begun to receive Batman training, so it only took him one minute to knock out four teeth of the school bully, and he himself was unharmed.
In fact, Jason regretted it right after beating the guy up. He felt that he had used too much force. He should have just knocked the guy down, but he ended up breaking the school bully's teeth.
Even though the other party deserved it, he didn't want to cause trouble for Bruce.
In the end, his parents were indeed called, but Bruce did not blame Jason too much. He just told him to be more careful in the future, as students on campus are just ordinary people after all.
Then Jason learned from Alfu that Dick had also fought with a school bully when he was in school, and the bully was even more fierce than Jason. It was said that Dick challenged half of the school football team alone, and not only did he win, but those who were beaten by him also suffered serious injuries such as dislocated noses and broken bones.
That time really caused trouble for Bruce, after all, half of the football team... Originally, Bruce only donated one building to the school after graduation, but the fight with Dick made Bruce donate a second building.
In fact, the superheroes and superhero reserve members of the Batman family are all quite violent. Dick has even broken the collarbones and jaws of criminals (see the Nightwing comics). After all, being a vigilante is not like filming an idol drama. Batman wants to establish balance and order for Gotham in his own way to prevent the city from falling deeper into sin. It is normal to be ruthless and cruel, as long as the criminals can't be killed.
Jason's beating of the school bully this time didn't even amount to enough to force the school to build a third new building.
There was a follow-up to this incident, which was very unexpected to Jason, that is, his popularity in school seemed to have increased.
Well, maybe young people are particularly prone to idolizing characters with strong fists.
Jason had never considered that the source of his popularity was related to his face. He had a good foundation to begin with, and his appearance and demeanor were further improved with good eating and sleeping + Ah Fu's etiquette training + Robin's training. It was no surprise that his appearance skyrocketed or recovered to the appearance that a person with such genes should have in a healthy environment.
This time of beating up the school bully to show off his fists was just a way to ignite Jason's previously accumulated popularity. In another ten years, many people will say that the Wayne family is rich in handsome men with black hair and blue eyes. As the only one with green eyes among them, Jason's appearance will also be highly recognized.
This is wrong. Really wrong.
Jason thought to himself that he thought he could handle this. He felt that he could deal with the kindness and enthusiasm of others, just as he and Alfu naturally became close.
But he felt like he was about to screw it all up.
He rejected most of the people who approached him and extended a hand of friendship to him with coldness and silence, but there were still a few people, such as the boy who invited him to play football together in physical education class, the senior who lent him ice skates, and the deputy monitor who praised his good reading taste.
But Jason couldn't accept any closer approach. He thought it was okay when a boy put his arm around his shoulders and invited him to go to the locker room to change clothes. Then the boy deliberately poked Jason's neck and armpits. In short, it was just an intimate fight between boys.
To others, this behavior is just a joke between friends, but it is not friendly to Jason because he does not like having his sensitive areas touched.
At first he tried to hide away, suppressing his discomfort, and warned, "Hey, Alvin, don't do that."
Ivan pulled him with a smile: "Come on, Jay, let me see your body. You beat all the big guys in the senior grade. Did you secretly drink egg syrup to build muscle?"
The freckled boy announced in a cheerful tone, "If your muscles are up to par, I'll take you to play football this weekend. Did I ever tell you that I have a brother who's a linebacker for the Gotham Knights?"
Jason dodged flexibly, which aroused Ivan's competitive spirit and curiosity, so he decided to do whatever it takes.
Ivan pounced and grabbed Jason by the waistband of his pants: "Ha! I got you!"
This move accurately hit the taboo part of Jason's heart. He would never let anyone touch the part below his waist and above his thighs.
Ever since Old Todd first pulled Jason's hair, ripped off his pants, pointed at his deformed part and hurled insults and ridicules at him, and finally smashed a folding chair on him, Jason hated others doing this.
Robin, the reserve, immediately kicked Ivan out with no control over the force. Ivan flew nearly two meters away, holding his lower abdomen and groaning in pain.
The others who were originally able to laugh while watching the two good friends playing around were also stunned by this development.
The boy named Bob immediately went to help Ivan up. Someone disapproved and said to Jason, "Hey, man, he was just joking with you, why did you hit him?"
Jason also felt regretful and guilty. He looked at Ivan who couldn't get up, and finally had to flee. He jumped out of the window (he was on the first floor anyway), then climbed over the wall to leave the school, and randomly took a bus. Finally, he found himself near the milk tea shop that Andrea opened before she died.
Of course, that store is now a grocery store, selling cigarettes, alcohol, snacks and so on.
Jason ran over to buy a pack of cigarettes, squatted on the side of the road, lit one with a trembling hand, took a deep puff, and suddenly realized that no matter how he changed himself or how hard he tried to fit in with the group, he would still fail in the end.
This matter is much more serious than beating up the school bully. Jason hurt someone who showed kindness and closeness to him, and Bruce will definitely scold him.
Jason could never stand the disappointed looks in Batman and Alfred's eyes, because they were the best people to Jason in the world, and they were the family that was willing to accept him after 12 years of suffering.
What should he do next? Is he not cut out for the life he is living now, or is it better to just go back to the streets? Maybe he just doesn't deserve the life he is living now.
He felt like crying and his eyes were red.
Jason thought that perhaps he would never become the golden boy who loved to laugh and make noises and bring laughter to everyone as shown in the video recorded in the Batcave computer.
He couldn't do the gymnastic moves of spinning four somersaults in the air, and he didn't have a very happy personality. If he continued like this, he might get more disappointment.
"Hey, it's not good for kids to smoke."
Long fingers with bright red nail polish pressed down on Jason's shoulders, causing him to jump in surprise.
He turned around and saw a beautiful woman with black hair and red lips smiling at him.
This beauty had a very charming appearance, but she looked at Jason with gentleness and interest. Facing the boy's wary look, she raised her hands and raised an eyebrow.
"I have no ill intentions. I am Selina Kyle. Do you know me?"
Jason had heard this name before. He glared at the other person angrily, turned around and was about to leave, but then Selina called him.
"Hey, boy."
Jason turned around in confusion, asking her with his eyes what she was doing, and saw Selina holding out her hand to him, palm facing up.
The two of them were in a stalemate for a while, and Jason was like a little hedgehog with thorns all over his body, shouting angrily: "I don't need you to discipline me!"
Selina smiled calmly, "No, I can discipline you because I'm an adult. Give it to me or I'll call your dad."
Jason's cheeks puffed up in anger. He angrily threw the cigarette box into the other person's hand. Selina glanced at the brand on the cigarette box and frowned: "Oh my God, don't tell me your father didn't give you pocket money at all, otherwise why would you buy such a low-quality brand?"
Then she pinched Jason's face. Jason was so angry that he was about to go crazy, but his principle of not hitting women made him express his anger and dissatisfaction with his eyes.
Selina said in a teasing tone: "I remember today is not the weekend, you should be in school now, truant child."
Jason didn't want to pay any attention to her at all, but was eventually coaxed into a roadside fast food restaurant by the cunning adult, and then the two of them sat together at the window seat and ate burgers.
He didn't know why Catwoman invited him to eat, but it would be a waste not to eat the food that was delivered to his door. Perhaps because she had saved his life, Jason was not very wary of Catwoman.
Besides, Catwoman is not a villain in the true sense. She doesn't kill people, she only steals. Even Batman has never done anything to her.
High-calorie foods can put people in a better mood, but Jason's good mood only lasted until he saw the wallet in Catwoman's hand when she paid the bill.
The wallet should have been in Jason's coat. He yelled in annoyance, then chased Catwoman for two blocks. When Catwoman was about to drive away in a red convertible, he jumped into the car decisively.
He didn't do anything, but just shouted threateningly: "Give me back my wallet!"
Selina simply handed him the wallet and teased, "Baby, there's not much money in your bag."
Jason puffed up his cheeks again. He watched Catwoman turn the car around and asked, "Where are you going?"
"Stop talking nonsense and just follow me. I won't sell you out."
Selena was holding a chocolate bar that she had put in her mouth at some point, looking a little nonchalant. She finally sent Jason back to the vicinity of the school.
Jason was already confused at this time. He looked at the woman in confusion: "What do you mean..."
"I'm telling you not to run away, boy. Go back."
Selina waved her hand in disdain at him: "Let's go, do you still want to stay in my car?"
Jason looked at her for a while, got out of the car silently, and climbed the wall back to school under Catwoman's gaze. It was not until he stepped on the lawn that Jason realized that Catwoman must have helped him. At least after having a meal with her, Jason's mood was not so bad anymore.
It was a wonderful feeling. Jason was actually a very sensitive child. After all, his childhood experiences had almost destroyed his sense of security, so he could keenly perceive other people's attitudes towards him.
Even Alfu was a little bit repulsive to Jason at the beginning, probably because he took Dick's place, but the old man was really nice to Jason and they soon became a family.
There is also Batgirl Barbara Gordon, whose rejection of Jason is even more obvious. Jason admitted that he had just arrived at the Wayne family at that time, and many things were not so good about him, including swearing and smoking. With such a bad background, his character was not guaranteed. Even if Barbara told him to be careful of Jason in front of Bruce, Jason had no way to refute it because his past was indeed very bad.
Perhaps in the eyes of many people, he will never be as good as his predecessors, and is just a despicable thief who wants to get a position that does not belong to him.
Come to think of it, Catwoman was the one who never questioned or rejected Jason from the beginning. She even saved him. Jason didn't know at that time that this was related to the fact that he often went to the park to feed stray cats and dogs and sent them for deworming and sterilization. Most of his pocket money was spent on this.
Later he went to the infirmary to see Ivan and apologized to him. No one realized that Jason had run out of the school. Everyone thought he had been squatting in a corner of the school for two hours. After adjusting his mood, they immediately went to see Ivan and felt that this guy had a really weird personality.
There are fewer people willing to approach Jason actively. Some people still say that Jason is a freak with a lonely personality who doesn't want to interact with others, and can only be admired from afar.
Jason calmly accepted that he had messed up everything. He would never tell others the reason why he didn't want to have more intimate physical contact with others. Moreover, those people just chose to stay away from him and no one bullied him. The teachers didn't care about the fight between the boys and didn't call the parents. This result was already good.
He was the one who first rejected others' approach. He was unable to share his joy and sorrow with others, so naturally he was unable to open up to others and understand each other.
Fortunately, fate was not entirely bad to him. At least Jason met Bruce and Alfred. They knew the deepest secrets of Jason's body, but still treated him equally and naturally. He also had a family. Jason was glad that he was not really lonely.
Half a year after entering the Wayne family, Jason was finally allowed to patrol at night with Batman, which meant that he was recognized and he really became Batman's new assistant, the second generation Robin.
Although Jason hated the uniform designed by his predecessor, including the part that exposed his legs, he was still very excited when he actually put on Robin's equipment.
He suddenly jumped out from behind the computer and scared Alfred, causing the tea set to fall to the ground. He then jumped around in the Batcave and finally did a backflip and landed on the Batmobile.
Jason put his hands on his hips. He felt that today was the happiest day since he was born. He became Robin!
“This is the Best Day of my life!”
Bruce and Alfu looked at each other with smiles in their eyes.
Ah Fu shook his head and couldn't help laughing: "Master Jason, I can guarantee that you will have many better days than today in the future."
The night patrol that day was actually not very interesting for Batman. There were no villains causing trouble. They just prevented a few robberies. Although Jason's fighting style was as fierce as a street fight, the kid did fulfill his duties as Robin seriously and was very obedient.
Bruce thought this was a pretty good first night patrol. On the way back, Jason still looked lively and energetic. The kid twisted his body in the passenger seat for a while and uttered another sentence.
"Thank you, Dad."
That was the first time Jason called Bruce "Dad".
Jason was grateful to Bruce for making him Robin. Perhaps as Jason Todd, he was destined to be lonely and unable to make any friends. He probably would never fall in love in his life (no one would fall in love with a monster), and he would never have children (he didn't want his deformed genes to harm his offspring).
But as Robin, he can stay by Batman's side, help many, many people, protect Gotham and more people from harm, allowing him to believe that he can gradually get rid of the shadow of the past and become a good person.
