Chapter 12: City of the Dead 2

Entering from the fire escape of the commercial building, Song Ying was surprised to find that there was a layout of the first floor at the back door. Song Ying looked at the first floor and found that the front area facing the street was basically a food store. The central area was a large indoor plaza, and the back half was mostly cosmetics and digital products.

It was still quiet here, no zombie or human sounds could be heard.

After Song Ying exited the fire escape, he walked around the perimeter of the square and entered every shop he could. There was nothing left, and he guessed that they had been looted in an organized manner.

Finally, Song Ying found a box of toothpaste, toothbrushes and compressed towels, a box of facial masks, and a box of travel toiletries and care sets in the warehouse of a small cosmetics store near the stairwell. They were all small boxes, but finding toothbrushes and toothpaste was a pleasant surprise.

Walking up the stairwell to the second floor, Song Ying had seen the layout of this commercial building when she was on the first floor. The second floor was mostly high-end brand stores, the third floor was an arcade, the fourth floor was a cinema and a coffee shop, and the fifth floor was offices and a KTV.

The second floor was more attractive to Song Ying, as there should be quite a few clothes. The layout of the shops on the second floor was the same as that on the first floor, surrounding a circle around the square. Song Ying started to look clockwise to see if there were any clothes left in these shops.

The entire shopping mall must have been ransacked, and the clothing stores were empty. Song Ying didn't give up and looked at the warehouses of these stores again. She actually found some clothes and put them away without caring whether they could be worn or not.

A few down jackets were also found. They were probably left in the warehouse during the season change. The searchers thought the weather was hot so they didn't take them, which gave Song Ying a bargain.

When you are halfway there, you will see some jewelry stores and gold and silver stores. Although you won't need these things on the train, if you need money at the next plot station, you can collect some and keep them as a backup, especially gold, which is hard currency.

To Song Ying's disappointment, all the gold and silver were taken away, but she found a secret door in the warehouse of a gold and silver shop.

After opening it, they saw five unopened safes. They were hidden so deep that there must be something inside. Song Ying put them in his backpack and went back to find a way to open them.

After that, Song Ying could be said to have gained nothing from the store, and she couldn't help sighing in her heart that she couldn't even find a bargain.

Song Ying didn't check the third and fourth floors, as they must have been taken away. Song Ying went straight to the office on the fifth floor. There was a KTV blocking the way, so maybe there was something left in the office.

When passing by the KTV, Song Ying discovered a secret door. When she pushed it in, she found that it was the KTV's medical room. There was no sign of anything being rummaged through.

Song Ying searched around and found a medicine box, which contained alcohol, iodine, bandages, digestive tablets, hangover medicine, wound medicine, and anti-inflammatory medicine. Basically, it was everything Song Ying needed. In the infirmary, Song Ying even found some herbal medicines, and collected them all, no matter what they were.

Song Ying walked happily towards the office at the back. As soon as she reached the office door, she heard the roar of zombies inside. There were only two or three of them. Song Ying opened the door and went in when she was sure she could handle it.

As soon as the door was opened, a zombie jumped out. Song Ying didn't stop it and let it rush out directly, then chopped off its head with an axe from behind.

The noise at the door startled the remaining two inside and two more rushed out. Song Ying, who was standing next to the door, kicked them one by one as they came out. He knocked them all down and then killed them one by one with an axe.

Song Ying listened at the door for a while and made sure there were zombies inside before going in. It was a very ordinary office, with only four desks, a reception room and an office with a closed door at the back.

Song Ying first rummaged around outside and found a few pieces of chocolate and a few boxes of tea. There was a tea room in the reception room, which contained some snacks, biscuits, and fruits that had already rotted. Song Ying took a cardboard box, stuffed all the things in it, and took them away first.

The last office contained several boxes of good tea and a barrel of unopened water. Song Ying collected all the usable ones and also found a safe under the desk. He didn't know why there was a safe in the office of a shopping mall manager, so in order not to miss out on the good stuff, Song Ying accepted it first.

After visiting the commercial building, he went out from the back door, took out the car, and prepared to go to the base. Along the way, Song Ying would get off the car to pump out oil when he saw it. In fact, there were not many cars with oil left, except for some cars in remote alleys that could still pump out some.

They passed two large supermarkets on the way, but there was still nothing left inside. Song Ying collected some usable items in the corners and went back to clean up.

This Jade City is really strange. Apart from some zombies trapped in buildings, Song Ying didn't encounter any wild zombies. There were no zombie corpses or signs of burning on the streets.

With doubts, Song Ying drove to the mining area on the outskirts of the city. In order to keep a low profile, Song Ying stopped driving, parked the car and passed through the wooded area near the mining area. He planned to observe the situation near the gate of the base and make arrangements for the next five days.

The forests near the mining area are not dense, which may be related to the mining of jade, but it is enough for Song Ying to hide.

The forest should have been cleaned up by the people in the base and there were no zombies or mutated animals or plants. When it was five kilometers away from the base, traces of humans began to appear in the forest. They should have come out frequently to cut wood and collect various supplies, so the forest was bald.

After walking around that area for about three kilometers, they found that many people lived outside the base. Song Ying looked at his relatively clean clothes, and quickly rolled on the ground a few times, smearing some dirty stuff on his face.

The gray-faced Song Ying quickly integrated into the camp of survivors living outside the base and heard everyone talking about the base.

"This base broadcasted asking us to come, but they actually asked us to pay a city fee and 50 kilograms of food per person. If we had so much food, why would we come here?"

"It's not that we can't go in. Those with special abilities can go in directly without paying for food."

"Forget it, ordinary people like us, but we are afraid that zombies will suddenly come when we live outside. And it's strange that there are fewer zombies recently. The people in the base boasted that they cleaned them up, but I went to the city two days ago and there were very few zombies there."

"Do you think those zombies will want to do something big, like a zombie siege or something like that?"

"Pah, pah, pah, you have such a bad mouth, stop talking."

Song Ying didn't listen to their gossip and walked a little further into the forest. She would spend the night on a tree. As for food to bring into the city, she had no food, so she had to stay outside for the next few days.

However, their words about "zombies siege" still made Song Ying alert. After all, under normal circumstances, there would be the most zombies in the city center, and the closer to the base, the fewer there would be. But now, there were so few zombies in the entire Yucheng that it was weird.

Song Ying didn't think much about it. He climbed up a tree that was nearly three meters high, sat on a branch and started to eat dinner. There was a light in the camp at night and people were walking around, but no one noticed Song Ying on the tree. At night, Song Ying just leaned against the tree trunk with his eyes closed and rested, but he didn't really fall asleep.
