Chapter 359: You were born before I was born, and I was born when you were already old 2

When you were born, I had not yet come into the world, and the world was still an unknown area to me; when I was finally born, you had already gone through a turbulent half of your life and became very old.

This misalignment in time seems like a trick played by God, making us destined to be apart.

If we could be born in the same era and be of similar age, perhaps I could walk side by side with you every day, hand in hand, and experience the joys and sorrows of life together.

When you came to this prosperous and colorful world, I was still sleeping in the endless darkness and had not yet started my life journey; and when I first came into the world ignorantly, you had already experienced many hardships and seen through the impermanence of the world.

I can only stand silently at the end of the world, looking at you in the distance, my heart filled with endless longing and melancholy; and you, are like being at the edge of the cape, the long distance makes you out of reach.

When you came into this world, I was not yet born; and when I was born, you were already in your old age.

I long so much that one day I can become a colorful and dazzling butterfly, staying among the fragrant flowers and grass leaves every night, quietly nestling beside you.

This poem originated from a poem inscribed on Tang Dynasty Tongguan Kiln porcelain. Its author may be the skilled and clever potter himself, or it may be a folk song that was widely circulated and deeply loved by people at that time.

As time passed, the years passed by like a flash, until 1974 to 1978, when these precious poems finally reappeared before the world and were excavated at the Tongguan Kiln site in Changsha, Hunan.

These wonderful poems were included in the second volume of "Supplement to the Complete Tang Poems" compiled and proofread by Chen Shangjun and Volume 56 of "Continuation of the Complete Tang Poems". They all belong to the five-character poems created by poets whose names were not left behind.

The specific page number of these works is 1642 pages, and this book is published by Zhonghua Book Company. Its release date is forever frozen in October 1992, which is that unforgettable and beautiful moment.

The version we see today should be derived from the online literary work "You were born before I was born, and I was born when you were old."

It can be imagined that the online writer Cheng Dongwu must have deep emotions in his heart, otherwise how could he make such a wonderful modification to the original poem?

This work, which is praised as the most beautiful ancient poem in China, actually comes from the careful continuation of the poet Cheng Dongwu from Dexing City, Jiangxi Province.

The reason why it is so touching and intoxicating is that the connection is flawless and natural, so much so that modern people mistakenly believe that the whole poem was written by ancient people and is a masterpiece that has been passed down through the ages.

After all, such a tragic and beautiful artistic conception makes people prefer to believe that it is an ancient cultural treasure that has been deposited over a long period of time.

In fact, the poem inscribed on the Tongguan Kiln porcelain of the Tang Dynasty originally consisted of only a short sentence: "You were born before I was born, and I was born when you were old; you hate that I was born late, and I hate that you were born early."

However, it was Cheng Dongwu who later wrote the next three lines: "When you were born I was not yet born, and when I was born you were already old. I wish we were not born at the same time so that I could be with you every day."

This sequel is simply seamless, flowing as smoothly as clouds and water, and the beauty of its words is amazing. For this reason, this poem is regarded as one of the ten most beautiful ancient poems in China by many Chinese literature lovers.

More than 20 years ago, when it was first published, it quickly became popular throughout the entire Chinese literary world in just a few days!
