Chapter 7 Tomb Test
Cheng Bai jumped into the palace. He was unfamiliar with the place, so he followed her through the halls, looking around all the way until he entered the basement. There was a tomb passage further down, which was cold and dry inside.
Cheng Bai asked suspiciously, "Is there a cemetery underneath?"
Yun Juan whispered, "The tombs of all the successive masters of Kaiyang Holy Temple are all down there."
"Is there a mechanism?"
Yun Juan nodded and said, "Of course there is."
"Where's the monster?"
Yun Juan nodded her head like a chick pecking at rice: "Yes, there are."
"What did you ask me to do?"
Yun Juan hurriedly said, "Looking for treasure."
Cheng Bai pointed and said, "What about the one above?"
The entrance to the tomb is a circular hall with a spacious door that is wide open. Above the door is inlaid a human head... no, to be more precise, it is inlaid with a bronze human head wearing a helmet, with exquisite features and lifelike appearance.
Yun Juan was stunned and said, "That's not our goal."
Cheng Baiqi asked: "Isn't the helmet it's wearing a treasure?"
Before Yun Juan could answer, Cheng Bai jumped up, climbed up holding onto the door, reached out to take off the helmet, and only a bald forehead was left on the bronze head.
The helmet's material is shiny and mysterious, its style is simple, its craftsmanship is exquisite, and it feels cool and comfortable. Cheng Bai took one look and decided it was a good thing, and quickly stuffed it into his treasure bag: "We have a harvest, let's continue."
Yun Juan was stunned for a moment, and could only say: "Go in, and listen to me. Don't move anything. There may be traps."
Cheng Bai responded: "Okay, you lead the way."
The two entered the silent and gloomy tomb passage. The air was dull and ancient. The interior was clean and spacious. A small number of eternally burning lamps maintained the low visual requirements. There was a tall figure standing every few steps.
This is the monster guarding the cemetery, a sophisticated mechanical puppet.
Yun Juan warned, “As long as you don’t fight or make noise, you won’t alarm those topaz puppets.”
"Okay." Cheng Bai nodded in agreement, still looking around.
The tomb passages are interconnected and as complex as a maze, with several layers of staggered structures. Each tomb chamber is different, and the coffins inside are huge and exquisite.
Cheng Bai followed Yun Juan and stood in front of a large tomb chamber.
Going down the steps, a heavy coffin is placed in the center, and the walls around it are hung with various knife-like weapons, including Pudao, Yanling Knife, Mandarin Duck Knife, Ghost Head Knife, Nine-Ring Knife, Crescent Moon Knife, etc.
Cheng Bai sighed: "It seems that the tomb owner likes blades very much."
Yun Juan agreed, "The previous Kaiyang Palace Master was a martial arts fanatic."
Cheng Bai suddenly asked: "How does it compare to the master of Yaoguang Holy Temple?"
"The masters of the seven holy temples in Qiongqi Continent are all rare geniuses in martial arts, but due to their different generations, there is a huge difference in their cultivation. The former master of Kaiyang Palace and the master of Yaoguang Palace are of the same generation and have similar strengths." Yun Juan answered after careful consideration.
Cheng Bai asked, "Are there three Yaoguang Palace Masters?"
"Each of the seven holy temples has only one master, but the Yaoguang Holy Temple has two deputy masters."
Cheng Bai sighed: "It's a pity that they all died in the battle."
Yun Juan was stunned and did not answer.
"Where is the Moonlight Blade?" Cheng Baihua changed the subject.
"Hidden in the coffin, we need to wait for the right time to open the coffin lid. Tonight's moonlight is the key. It's about to start." Yun Juan calculated the time.
The full moon in the sky rose to a certain height. The bright and crystal moonlight was refracted through ingenious design, shining into the depths of the underground tomb of Kaiyang Temple, and sprinkling on the coffin in the center of the tomb like water.
Cheng Bai looked at the miracle happening in the coffin in amazement.
Under the moonlight, the coffin lid slowly opened, and a graceful middle-aged woman stood up from the coffin. She was taller and more muscular than Yun Juan, and held a strange weapon in her hand. It looked like a large rotating wheel made up of four blades, which was exquisite and gorgeous.
Cheng Bai hurriedly asked: "Is that the Moonlight Blade in her hand?"
Yun Juan explained, "That is the projection of the former Kaiyang Palace Master. The real Moonlight Blade is in the coffin. While I am fighting the projection, you go and take the Moonlight Blade away, exit the tomb and wait for me."
Just as the instructions were made clear, the former Lord of Kaiyang Palace strode over and threw out a spinning blade, which flew in the air as if controlled by someone, rolling and slashing with agility.
Yun Juan took out her short knife and stepped forward to fight, urging her teammates, "Go get your weapons quickly."
Cheng Bai dodged left and right, bypassing the attack range of the projection of the former Lord of Kaiyang Palace, and jumped into the huge coffin. He saw a corpse as dry as a mummy lying peacefully in the coffin, with both hands tightly grasping a rotating blade as round as a wheel.
I went forward to test the weight of this rare weapon. It was quite heavy, over 100 kilograms, and most people could not lift it.
Cheng Bai was not in a hurry. He quickly and neatly pried open the fingers of the former Kaiyang Palace Master's corpse until he took out the Moonlight Blade.
Yun Juan, who was outside the coffin, waved her short knife and fought and retreated, urging, "Cheng Bai, take it out quickly."
The projection of the former Kaiyang Palace Master suddenly grabbed the rotating blade and split it in two, becoming two symmetrical double-ended blades with the handle in the middle.
The Moonlight Blade is actually a pair of weapons, which is quite unique. Although it is a projection, it is still quite powerful. It can be separated or combined, flying in circles, shooting left and right, with exquisite moves, doubled power, and firmly gain the upper hand.
Yun Juan was suppressed and faced many dangers during the fight. The sharp sword energy tore her clothes apart, making her look embarrassed, but she remained undefeated, dodged attacks many times, and remained safe and sound.
After blocking a few moves, Yun Juan called out a few more times, but Cheng Bai in the coffin did not react at all.
She was anxious and finally used her real skills. The short knife in her hand flew in the air, which was quite similar to a rotating blade. She fought back and forth as fast as a whirlwind and actually forced back the two moonlight blade projections, but she still could not win.
The moonlight in the tomb chamber dimmed, the shadow of the former Lord of Kaiyang Palace gradually dissipated, the coffin lid slowly closed, and the miracle time was about to end.
Yunjuan took the opportunity to run to the coffin and took a quick look inside.
There was no human figure in the coffin except the corpse of the former Lord of Kaiyang Palace. The Moonlight Blade had long disappeared, leaving only the stunned Yun Juan in the tomb.
Cheng Bai ran out of the tomb entrance with the Moonlight Blade invisibly, thinking to himself: "Yun Juan is very familiar with the palace and the tomb. It is not as simple as an outsider robbing the tomb. Even if she is not from Kaiyang Temple, she is still very relevant. I am afraid this matter may be a scam, don't fall into the trap. No matter what, I have come here with great difficulty, just keep the spoils, don't be greedy for other things."
He did not take the same route he came from. He roughly estimated the direction and found that the architectural layout of Kaiyang Temple was quite similar to that of Yaoguang Temple, so he escaped through the side door of the palace.
"I didn't expect this boy, who seemed to be so honest, to be so cunning and to play the pig and eat the tiger."
Yun Juan was furious and regretted her decision. She rushed out of the tomb and shouted, "Seal off the temple and prohibit anyone from entering or leaving. The Moonlight Blade and Frost Dragon Helmet have been stolen."
The loud noise made the topaz puppet move towards Yunjuan, but it did not attack. Instead, it blocked the tomb passage and waited for orders.
There were rustling sounds in the darkness, and several women in black appeared from their hidden places. They came to Yun Juan and saluted, saying, "We will follow the orders of the Palace Master."
It turns out that Yun Juan is the current master of the mysterious Kaiyang Temple, who tricked Cheng Bai into taking the Moonlight Blade.
This is because the temple has always had an oath that the corpses and burial objects of successive temple masters cannot be touched rashly. The Moonlight Blade can only be taken out after being tested by the Moonlight Sword Skills of the previous temple master.
Yun Juan's strength is not yet enough to defeat the projection of the previous hall master, but she wants to get the treasure as soon as possible, so she needs to find an outsider to go and get it for her. At the same time, she has a backup plan in case Cheng Bai changes his mind. However, she did not expect that the secret technique of invisibility can come and go freely, and the deployment of several women in black is useless, and two precious treasures are lost in vain.
Cheng Bai rode away from Kaiyang City overnight.
"There are only a few masters in Kaiyang City. Yun Juan is most likely the Kaiyang Palace Master. The Yaoguang Palace Master asked me to explain it clearly. The grudge between the three masters has been settled."
Cheng Bai guessed half right. Looking at the black smoke rising from Yema Ridge in the distance, he knew that it was the fire in Waibazi Village that had not been completely extinguished yet. The bandits' lair must no longer exist. Feeling happy and relieved, he urged his horse to gallop towards Yaoguang Temple, hunting and practicing freely all the way.
The Crooked Neck Legion's stronghold was burned down, its personnel collapsed, and the number of bandits has become much smaller. Kaiyang City may usher in new development opportunities.
A few days later, Cheng Bai came to the Yaoguang Temple again.
The palace had unknowingly become much more gloomy, and the ghosts lurking around the altar day and night gradually turned the once luxurious temple into a haunted den.
Cheng Bai took advantage of the fact that the undead were unresponsive during the day, entered the open-air hall, took out the Moonlight Blade from the treasure bag, and placed it on the altar.
The light was brighter than before, the moonlight blade disappeared without a trace, and three balls of light floated in front of Cheng Bai, showing colorful new runes.
