Chapter 422 People who want to go home
After talking with Grindelwald, Della officially started making the wand.
Fortunately, the wand core was fine. Cockrell helped her find an antique wand from several centuries ago. She took out the dragon nerve of the Frost Dragon that was no longer effective and soaked it in the cerebrospinal fluid of the basilisk, preparing to help it revitalize.
Although that nerve was almost garbage, the Frost Dragon itself was extinct. In Della's opinion, it was very qualified to be the core of the "Elder Wand".
The problem lies in the wood. It has to be old enough and special enough, otherwise it won't be able to bear the reputation of a destiny stick or a death stick.
Della spent a long time reading the Wood Encyclopedia and asked Professor Cockrell about the market price of old wood, but old and special wood is not only rare, but also unknown.
Due to the shortage of wood, the imitation of the Elder Wand had to be put on hold. Della was not idle either. She was thinking about how to keep Grindelwald by her side.
It doesn't have to be the kind that you carry with you everywhere you go. The distance should be closer than the distance between the UK and Germany, and it should be convenient for communication and meeting.
This is very important, otherwise no one would endorse Della's Elder Wand.
Della already had an idea about this, inspired by the door key.
First, draw a circle in an existing space as the anchoring end point, and then make a transfer device similar to a door key, define the triggering conditions, and fully control the right of passage.
While Della was working on it, the office where Cockerell was hiding Grindelwald was targeted by the only person in Durmstrang who was not afraid of him.
After Cockrell returned to his office after class, Lydia knocked on his door.
"Professor Cockrell, let me in," Lydia said, staring nonchalantly at her hand pressing on the door. "You know I'm always willing to help you."
In the office, Grindelwald, who was lying on a fur-covered recliner reading a newspaper, and Cockrell, who was grading homework, exchanged glances. After a brief silence, Grindelwald said, "That voice sounds familiar, Raven."
"..." Cockrell's eyes dropped, and he said dejectedly, "She is Cecilia's niece."
"Oh, brave and charming Cecilia," Grindelwald sighed, "I remember you were going to be married."
Cecilia died in the final purge of the Witch Party organized by the Magical Congress of the United States of America, and her heart was shattered by an evil curse from an Auror in front of Cockerell.
"I have the most beautiful girl ever."
Cockrell spoke in a hoarse voice. He sighed and forced himself to look away from the painful past and back to the present. "Lytia is a good child and has absolutely no interest in ordinary fame and fortune. She will not pose a threat to us."
"She's here now because she once got in trouble with Voldemort," Cockerell continued. "She still wants to stay at Abbot Manor in England, but Voldemort is too restless. He's a ticking time bomb right now."
As he spoke, contempt grew in Cockerell's voice. He admitted that Voldemort's magical power was so powerful that even Dumbledore had to retreat, but he always looked down on his shabby manners and superficial intentions.
After talking about Voldemort, Cockerell recalled the unconcealed love between Lydia and Maggie, but this matter was too personal. After Voldemort reappeared, the two had almost lost contact. He felt there was no need to mention it, so he did not comment on it.
"Thinking back, Cecilia's brother Edward, whom she often mentions, also provided us with a lot of financial support," Grindelwald put down the newspaper and sat up straight in the comfortable recliner. "Many of the furnishings in Nurmengardelli back then were provided by their family, right?"
"Edward could never say no to Cecilia," Cockrell said, shaking his head with some nostalgia. "He can't say no to Lydia now either."
"You're so faithful, I admire you." Grindelwald looked at the door, where knocks were heard every once in a while, and chuckled. "Let this young lady from the Abbott family come in, Raven. It's okay to have a chat."
"There is one thing I must say, sir," Cockerell looked at Grindelwald hesitantly, "Edward has now surrendered to Voldemort with the Abbott family."
"But Voldemort created a world where his daughter dared not return home," Grindelwald said firmly without pausing. "For Edward Abbott, Voldemort was probably not worthy enough for him to please him at all costs. I still remember the look in his eyes once—"
Grindelwald's gaze drifted off, his voice slightly drawn out. "He's so carefree and cold. He used to have only his sister, and now I'm afraid he only has his daughter. Apart from this one thing, he looks like someone ready to die at any moment."
Cockerell paused for a moment, carefully recalling the Edward Abate he had met before, and found that his eyes were always the same as Grindelwald described.
The hesitation faded away, and Cockerell admired Grindelwald even more. He finally walked over and opened the door that had been knocking for a while, and led Lydia into the office more gently than usual.
The moment the mahogany door closed, Lydia looked at Grindelwald, who was not hiding at all by the fireplace.
"..." Her thin eyebrows furrowed. Lydia, who had never seen Grindelwald before, tilted her head in confusion and chose to ask Cockrell directly, "Who is he?"
"Did Edward ever tell you the story of your aunt?" Grindelwald replied before Cockerell could answer.
"There's a photo of my aunt in my room." Lydia's narrow, charming eyes narrowed, and she let out a small 'Oh', suddenly realizing, "I see. You are Gellert Grindelwald."
"You should call him Mr. Grindelwald, Lytia," Cockrell corrected.
"Okay," Lydia glanced at Cockrell, curled her lips and nodded, then looked at Grindelwald, "Mr. Grindelwald, how did you end up in Professor Cockrell's office?"
"What did you want to hear?" Grindelwald said calmly. "The name of the person you expected to see here?"
Grindelwald noticed Lydia's confusion and knew that it came from an unexpected source.
"So Della is here?" Lydia asked, acknowledging Grindelwald's question.
"Why are you so concerned about Della? You never asked her a question before," Cockrell asked. "Are you short of money and want that million Galleon?"
"I really want to go home," Lydia said, sighing sadly. "If I could be the one to bring Della back, her brother would definitely block the knife for me."
Hearing this, Cockrell said nothing, but just looked at Grindelwald, waiting for his decision.
"It's quite convenient," Grindelwald said, looking at Lydia and Cecilia's identically proud grey eyes, with a mixture of melancholy, nostalgia, and tolerance. "Just wait a few more days, Miss Abate. You'll be able to go home soon."
