Wilderness Redemption Tour
Chapter 359 Another accident
"Okay, we're here," Dutch said, rolling off his horse.
With his back to the railroad tracks, Dutch began assigning tasks. "Crit, Jamie, Sadie, you get on from the middle of the train. John, you and Arthur get on from the back. Everyone else, follow Micah and me. Don't rush to get on when the train arrives. Look around first before getting on, and make sure no one is paying attention to you before getting on."
Taking out his pocket watch and checking the time, Dutch said to himself, "It's almost time. The train should be here soon."
"Woo-woo--" As soon as Dutch finished speaking, a train whistle sounded.
"Here I come!" said Bill, who was closest to the tracks, and moved two steps to the side.
"Okay, get ready." Dutch waved his hand to signal everyone to walk towards the station, to the location he had just designated.
Lin Yan followed the others towards the station, but before he had taken two steps, he saw a steam locomotive with black smoke coming out of its front end speeding past them on the tracks.
"Our target...is it?" Arthur asked Dutch uncertainly.
Dutch was a little confused at first when he saw this situation, but after seeing one of the carriages, he confirmed his judgment.
"Damn it! What the hell is going on? Why doesn't it stop?" Dutch yelled at Micah.
Micah spread his hands out in an innocent manner, his brows furrowed, his expression even more confused than Dutch's.
"Shall we get in the car now?" Bill asked naively.
"Go ahead if you can," Dutch replied unhappily, and then led the way back. "Everyone, get on your horses, we're going to catch up!"
Arthur grabbed Dutch's arm and demanded, "The train didn't stop as planned. This is very wrong. Should we still follow the plan?"
Dutch pulled his arm back with force. "Of course. I have planned for this moment for so long, how can I give up so easily?" He said to the people behind him as he walked, "The plan remains unchanged! Even if there are mountains of swords and seas of fire ahead, it can't stop our determination to grab the money."
Riding on his horse, Dutch whistled and was the first to catch up along the railroad tracks.
This train had many carriages connected to the back, so the speed was not very fast. As soon as the train left Saint-Denis, Lin Yan and his party climbed up by grabbing the railing of the last carriage.
After getting on the bus, Dutch counted the number of people and asked casually, "Is everyone okay?" After receiving a positive answer, he turned around and pointed to the car in front and said, "The money is in the car in front. I asked Micah to run to the front of the car and threaten the driver to stop. Let's take this opportunity to clear out the guards on the car."
"Let's start, Dutch, we can't wait." It was Bill who spoke again. He was more excited today than ever before.
"Yeah." Dutch nodded, walked to the car door and opened it.
The guards in the opposite carriage were sitting together playing cards. Lin Yan guessed that this was also the reason why they boarded the train without being discovered. The noise at the door attracted the attention of the guards, "Enemy..." One of them saw a stranger on the train and immediately shouted a warning, but as soon as he said a word, the bodies of the group were shot into sieves by bullets fired from several guns.
Dutch reloaded his gun while stepping over the bodies of the group of people. "Hey, these people actually have the leisure to play poker. It seems that they think this job is easy."
"It's a good thing that the other party is caught off guard," John agreed.
"But someone just advised us to give up." Dutch said meaningfully, almost saying Arthur's name directly.
Arthur took the initiative to admit his mistake and said, "Okay, it's my fault, but can we get the money first before going through these old accounts?"
Dutch shrugged, "I was just talking. Now, focus on the battle. The guards up front have heard the gunfire coming."
Then, Lin Yan really saw what "strength in numbers" really meant. In a narrow place like a train, the Van der Linde gang gathered together like a combination of a Gatling gun and a shotgun. No matter how many enemies came, they would kill them with a hundred million shots, ensuring that the enemies would not be able to return, and when they died, they would have more than one hole in their bodies.
In less than five minutes, they had reached the middle of the train. Just as they were exchanging fire with the enemy in the next carriage, a ricocheted bullet from the carriage wall and hit a kerosene lamp on the roof. The lamp shattered, and the kerosene in the lamp spilled all over the ground, igniting violently as soon as it hit the ground.
At first, no one took it seriously. The floor of the train was made of iron, and the kerosene in the oil lamp would burn out in a short time. But the result was the opposite of what they expected. Just when everyone thought that the flame would soon go out, a sudden explosion broke out from the fire point and eventually affected the entire carriage. What was originally just a small flame blocking the road developed into a raging fire throughout the carriage.
Fortunately, the explosion was not violent, and the impact of the explosion was also reduced a lot by the iron carriage, so that the people who were only a dozen meters away from the explosion point were only a little frightened and did not suffer any physical injuries.
"Damn, is there explosives in that carriage?" Joe, who always had a gloomy face, rarely said a word.
"The fire is getting bigger. How are we going to get through now?" Bill also shouted.
"The explosion happened once, and there may be a second and third time. This place is very dangerous now." Arthur quickly assessed the situation and made what he thought was the most reasonable decision: "If we want to continue moving forward, we can only jump out of the car first."
"Then jump!" Dachi made the same judgment as Lin Yan, and set an example by jumping down first.
When the others saw Dutch jump out of the car, they followed his example and jumped out of the car.
The train was now traveling on the edge of the Blue Water Swamp. The tracks were built on a wooden bridge, which was only ten centimeters above the ground, and the ground was soft mud. The people who jumped off the train with Dutch had their clothes dirty but no physical injuries.
While waiting for the mount to come over, Lin Yan had a question in his mind: Micah has been gone for so long, why hasn’t the train stopped yet?
Lin Yan was not the only one who had this question. After getting back on the horse, while chasing the train, Arthur asked Dutch the same question.
"Maybe something went wrong?" Dutch frowned, but soon relaxed. "But it doesn't matter. Micah just needs to make sure the train doesn't stop where it's supposed to."
Because the burning carriage was in danger of exploding, everyone was afraid to get too close when overtaking. And it was precisely because of this caution that everyone avoided a disaster in which they would either die or get injured.
