Wilderness Redemption Tour

Chapter 311: The Legbroken Veteran

Oakleaf Lake is the lake that Lin Yan passed by when he went bear hunting with Hosea last time. It is located in the East Grizzlie Mountains in Ambarino State. This east-west mountain range almost spans the entire Ambarino State, with the Cumberland Forest in the middle as the dividing line. To the east are the East Grizzlie Mountains, and to the west are the West Grizzlie Mountains.

Compared to the steep West Grizzli Mountains, the East Grizzli Mountains are gentler, and because of the temperature, the scenery here is more pleasant.

Crossing the Kamassa River, walking on the mountain path in East Grizzli, breathing the fresh air in the mountains and forests, Sadie asked Lin Yan happily: "What are we going to do this afternoon? Find a poor guy and kill him?"

Lin Yan shook his head. "I was tired of doing this every day in Lakai. Now we are not the only ones out here to make money. Let's take a break today and walk around here, take in the scenery, and see if we can come across anything interesting."

"Interesting things?" Lin Yan's words amused Sadie. "What interesting things can we encounter in the mountains? We walked for a long time and didn't see even a passerby. The most common things here are animals and hunters."

"Hey, do you think there will be wild horses in the mountains?" Lin Yan asked Sadie abruptly.

"Yes." Sadie answered without hesitation, "But most wild horses like to live in places like the Heart of the Earth where there is abundant food. It is difficult to have large herds of wild horses in the mountains. Why do you ask this?"

Lin Yan pulled the reins and pointed to a sturdy horse drinking water by the stream below the road and said, "Look, there is one over there."

"Oh, that one, you mean? That's not a wild horse." Sadie took just one look and denied it flatly.

"how do you know?"

Sadie raised her chin lazily. "Look at its coat color. Ordinary wild horses don't have such good coat color. Also, have you ever seen a wild horse with a saddle and bridle?"

Lin Yan chuckled: "Actually, I figured it out, but I looked for a long time and didn't see anyone nearby. Do you think it left its owner behind and ran here by itself?"

"It's possible." Sadie said as she jumped off the horse, walked down the hill, and headed towards the horse that was drinking water. As she walked, she said, "If I'm not mistaken, this is a Dutch warmblood horse. Although it's not a rare breed, it's the best looking horse I've ever seen, and it's much better than the two we're riding now. It's a good choice for us to take it back, whether we keep it and ride it or sell it."

Lin Yan walked beside Sadie, and as he got closer to the horse, more details about the horse appeared in front of him one by one.

This is a Dutch warmblood horse with ivory-white-gold fur. Under the sunlight, the horse's entire body is like a layer of silver armor, shining brightly. Not only that, after getting closer, Lin Yan felt the height of the horse more intuitively. It is two times larger than the Arabian horse that Lin Yan is riding now, and is almost the same size as some pack horses.

Even someone like Lin Yan, who doesn't know much about horses, exclaimed sincerely when he saw the horse up close: "What a great horse!"

The horse, which was drinking water, seemed to sense the presence of a stranger. It raised its head and turned around restlessly. It was during this turn that Sadie noticed something unusual about the horse.

"Look, there seems to be something hanging on its stirrup?"

"It seems... to be a leg..." Lin Yan's tone was a little vague. "Could it be the leg of the horse's owner..."

Sadie was quite calm. "Don't worry, let's wait and see."

The task of calming the horse fell on Sadie. Even though she was not a professional in this area, she was better than Lin Yan, who was not even a half-baked expert.

Compared to the timid and aggressive wild horse, this domesticated horse was much easier to tame. Sadie approached the horse softly, soothing it.

At first, when the horse saw a stranger coming towards it, it neighed and raised its two front hooves high, appearing very anxious, until Sadie walked up to it and stroked its neck back and forth a few times. Only then did the horse let down its guard against Sadie and completely calm down.

Seeing that Sadie had successfully tamed the other party, Lin Yan walked over boldly with confidence.

He walked to the stirrup, took off the leg stuck in the stirrup, held it up and said speechlessly: "Damn, it's actually a fake leg..."

Sadie shrugged. "So the person it left behind was a disabled person."

"How about...we look around here?" Lin Yan suggested.

"Are you sure?" Sadie asked back, "This horse is worth a lot of money."

Lin Yan stroked the horse's strong back and said lovingly: "This horse is taken care of so well. Its owner must love it very much. We can't just take it away from him. Besides," Lin Yan shook the artificial leg in his hand, "without this thing, he can't walk."

Since Lin Yan had made up his mind, Sadie had nothing to say. After the two of them led the horses to the road, they continued along the road.

Not long after they walked, the horse led by Sadie suddenly broke free from the reins in her hand and ran towards the bushes not far ahead. At the same time, a scream came from behind a huge rock in the bushes.

"Buell, you damned beast, you still remember to come back! Eh? Where are my legs? Where did you take my legs?"

"Your legs are here, sir." Lin Yan and Sadie walked over after hearing the voice.

Walking around to the front of the stone, Lin Yan saw a one-legged old man wearing a dark blue military uniform and a brown coat unique to senior officers. He was sitting with his back against the boulder, looking at the two strangers who suddenly appeared warily.

"Your leg is here, sir." Lin Yan said as he dismounted and handed the artificial leg that he had placed in the saddle bag to the old man.

The old man didn't say anything polite. He took the artificial leg and skillfully put it on his broken leg. As he put it on, he said, "Thank you. You really helped me a lot. This is the second time that bastard named Buel has caused me to lose a leg. The last time was on the battlefield more than 30 years ago."

"Ah?" Lin Yan was a little confused.

"Buell was the name of my general," the old man explained. "I lost my leg under his command. It was hit by a shell. But it was a clean blow. I didn't even feel any pain, and I didn't get gangrene afterwards. Some of the young men who fought with me were blown in two. Compared with them, I think I'm doing pretty well."

After the old man finished explaining, he put on his artificial leg. He stood up with the help of the boulder behind him, limped to Lin Yan, stretched out his right hand and said, "Hamish Sinclair, what are your names?"
