Chapter 31 Bank Carriage Robbery

After leaving Strawberry Town, Arthur let Micah tell him his plan.

"Arthur, before you came this morning, the guy from the O'Driscoll gang next door kept saying that a bank carriage was going to Strawberry Town today. Bank carriage, do you know what that means, Arthur? Cash, a lot of cash! If we get this money, maybe you will not only not lose money on this trip, but also make a lot of money."

Arthur pulled the reins to stop the horse. "Is this your plan? You want to drag us along to rob with you?"

"Isn't this what the capitalists always say is mutual benefit? You help me, and I provide you with information. What is this called... win-win! That's right, it's a win-win situation!"

Arthur was also a little tempted after hearing this. After all, this trip cost a lot of money, and he had to think of a way to make it back. "Okay, then I'll trust you this time. Do you know the specific route of the carriage?"

"Don't worry, I'm very familiar with this area. They only take one road to get here. Let's find a commanding point first and observe the movements of the carriage there." After saying this, Micah took the initiative to run to the front and lead the way.

"Do you have any other important information? How many people are in the escort team? How many guns do they have?"

Micah said nonchalantly, "These problems are nothing to mention in front of so many of us. We will be fine."

Lenny warned him, "But I heard that all the banks in this area are recruiting a large number of gunmen because of the Blackwater incident. The more fierce the better."

Micah laughed after hearing this. "Lenny, you think too much. How can a truly powerful person be a bodyguard for a bank and be willing to escort a carriage?"

"Actually, I'm still worried about what you heard from the O'Driscoll gang." Arthur also expressed his concerns appropriately.

"There's nothing to worry about, Arthur. The O'Driscolls control much of the Great Valley, and they're better informed than we are in this part of the country. I hear they've taken over a large ranch to the north, too. If you ever want to cause them trouble, head over there."

Everyone followed Micah along a path to a hillside east of Strawberry Town. "Okay, this is it. We just need to keep an eye on this hillside."

Lin Yan rode on his horse and looked at the scenery below the mountain. There was a small path winding into the distance among the dense pine forests. This road should be the only way for the bank carriage to pass. In the far distance, there was an open space without trees. Lin Yan could vaguely see some buildings. "Is that open space without trees over there the ranch occupied by the O'Driscoll gang you just mentioned?" Lin Yan turned to ask Micah.

Micah didn't answer Lin Yan's question directly. He first glanced at Lin Yan, then pretended to recall and said, "I remember you were the new guy. What was your name? Jimmy? Or Jay?"

"Jamie."

"Oh, yes, Jamie. Hey! Arthur! Your follower has good eyesight and a good sense of direction. He's right, that's the ranch I was talking about."

Lin Yan looked at Micah's "performance" with disdain, thinking to himself, no wonder everyone dislikes you, this behavior is really annoying.

Sadie, who had already jumped off the horse, pulled Lin Yan, who looked unhappy, aside and advised, "Don't get angry with someone like him. It's not worth it."

Lin Yan focused all his attention on the scenery in the distance, and only then did he calm himself down. He let out a breath of anger and said, "I know why you hate him."

"His tone is secondary. His behavior will make you hate him even more."

Lin Yan seemed to be interested all of a sudden. He jumped off his horse and asked curiously, "What did he do to make you hate him so much?"

Sadie rolled her eyes at him. "What? Do you want to hear me tell you something he did to make me unhappy so that you can be happy?"

Seeing that his little thoughts were seen through, Lin Yan chuckled twice and said nothing more.

"When Micah found me in my basement, he started to do something to me. If Dutch and Arthur hadn't been there, I might have... Then when I resisted, Micah deliberately overturned the table, and the oil lamp on the table fell to the ground. My home and Yake's was burned down."

When Sadie told this story, Lin Yan heard a hint of sadness in her tone.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know Micah had done such a thing to you, I..."

Sadie shook her head. "This has nothing to do with you. I just want you to know what kind of person Micah is. Anyway, it's best for us not to have anything to do with him in the future. Even Dutch calls him 'family'."

"Are you talking about Micah?" Lenny came over from behind and joined the conversation.

"Uh..." Facing the not-so-familiar Lenny, Lin Yan didn't know what to say for a moment.

Seeing that Lin Yan was a little embarrassed, Lenny smiled and said, "It's okay, you don't have to avoid me. I don't like this guy very much either. Although Micah is not a good person, his shooting skills are one of the best in the gang. I think this is why Dutch didn't drive him away. Another thing, don't tell others that I said this." Lenny put his head close to the ears of the two and whispered, "Micah is also a first-class flatterer, and Dutch seems to be very fond of it."

Lin Yan seemed to understand something. He nodded and said, "So that's how it is. I was wondering why Dutch insisted that Arthur rescue Micah. It turns out that he finally met someone who flattered him."

"Just say this here, don't say it in front of Dutch." Lenny reminded Lin Yan to pay attention to the occasion when speaking.

"Hey, you three stop chatting. The target has appeared, it's time to get to work." Micah, who had been observing the road below, said to the three people not far away.

Lin Yan took the opportunity to look down, and saw a carriage appearing on the road in the forest. Four riders were not far behind the carriage, looking around vigilantly.

"Everyone, get on your horses and put on your masks. Micah and I will lead the charge, and the three of you can just fire randomly to attract their attention."

After everyone got on their horses, Arthur and Micah took the lead and rushed down the hillside.

Lin Yan had replaced the bullets in his revolver with ordinary bullets yesterday. Holding the pistol in hand, the three of them followed Arthur and Micah, who were charging, and rushed towards the carriage at the same speed. With the cover of the trees, the riders guarding the carriage only discovered these sudden enemies when Arthur and Micah rushed into the shooting range of the pistols. In a panic, they just wanted to raise their guns to shoot, and two of them were shot and fell off their horses by Arthur and Micah.

When the coachman saw the robbers suddenly appear, he began to urge the four horses in front to speed up. After a short period of speeding up, the carriage successfully distanced itself from the two groups of people behind it. The other guard sitting in the driving seat of the carriage also turned around and pulled the bolt of his rifle to aim at the robbers who suddenly appeared, but as the distance from them got farther and farther, he put down the rifle.

Arthur and Micah each killed a guard after a short charge, and the three who followed them also aimed at the remaining two and shot. Lin Yan's original intention was still not to kill people. They were just here to rob money, so why kill anyone? So this time he rushed into the attack range, opened the Eye of Death, and aimed at the other party's gun-holding arm. After firing a bullet, he realized that only hitting the arm would not bring the other party down, so he aimed at the other party's side and fired again.

Bullets flew out of the gun barrel one after another. One of the bullets aimed at the opponent's arm successfully hit the opponent. The guard was injured and in pain, and immediately gave up shooting. But another bullet rubbed the guard's body and flew into the woods behind him. Lin Yan's bullet missed. Just when he wanted to shoot again to make the opponent fall off the horse, a bullet flew from his right side and successfully hit the guard's throat. Blood immediately gushed out of the wound. The opponent covered his wound in despair, made a few "ho ho" sounds, and his body softened and fell off the horse.

Lin Yan turned his head to look, and saw Sadie raising her chin towards him as if showing off. Her expression seemed to say: You are just a sharpshooter, and in the end you still have to rely on me.

After the guard fell, the last remaining guard fired a shot in panic. Unfortunately, the shot missed the target at such a close distance, and he was killed by Arthur, Micah and Lenny.

After the men rushed down the hillside, although they were targeting the guards behind the carriage, the horses were still running forward along the road in the dense forest, but the speed of the horses under their crotch when shooting was not as fast as when they just rushed down the hillside. After killing all four guards, Micah looked at the carriage that was about to disappear in the dense forest and urged: "The carriage is running far, let's chase it quickly. We are not far from Strawberry Town. If he runs to Strawberry Town, everything will be too late."

After saying that, he squeezed the horse's belly with his legs, causing the horse under his crotch to feel pain and almost instantly distance itself from the others. Upon hearing this, the others also sped up their horses and caught up.

It has to be said that the bank's draft horses are better than ordinary draft horses. After chasing for nearly five minutes, they only got a little closer to the carriage in front.

Arthur lowered his body on the horse, watching the gunners on the carriage in front of him constantly shooting backwards, and shouted to Micah who was running a little ahead of him: "This won't work. Their horses are running too fast. We are too close and can only serve as targets for the gunners on the carriage."

Micah kicked the horse again to try to speed it up. "Damn it! There were so many of us, why didn't anyone stop the carriage? I can't bear to see the money I have in my hands fly away!"

Arthur heard Micah's complaint and reminded him, "Don't think about blaming anyone at this moment. Think about whether you can stop the carriage."

"There are mountains all around here, and there is no shortcut at all. We can only wait for their horses to get tired and stop, or pray for something unexpected to happen."

As soon as Micah finished speaking, he saw the carriage in front of him turn sharply and fall to the ground. The huge inertia caused the carriage and wheels to completely disintegrate. The heavy wheels flew up to two meters high and finally hit the ground in the forest, raising a cloud of dust. The four horses pulling the carriage also broke free and ran deep into the forest.

When Micah saw the carriage flipped over, he pulled the reins tighter to slow down the horse while laughing wildly. "Haha, it seems God has not abandoned me. He heard my call and helped me stop the carriage."

Arthur also slowed down, but he noticed something unusual. He took out the binoculars from his bag and looked into the distance. He said, "There's a tree blocking the road ahead of the carriage. It couldn't have fallen down by itself. There must be an ambush. Everyone, be careful."

The three people behind also controlled their horses and stood behind Arthur, observing the situation ahead.

Heads began to emerge one after another in the forest that was quiet just now. Lin Yan opened his eyes wide and carefully identified them. There were more than ten of them, but none of them were masked like the five of them. The person closest to the carriage walked to the overturned site, shot the seriously injured coachman and the gunman, and then began to cheer to his accomplices in the forest.

Arthur put down his binoculars and announced, "It's the O'Driscoll Gang."

After hearing this, Micah decisively dismounted, raised his two pistols and said to the people behind him: "Haha, I didn't expect these guys would be able to help us one day. What are you waiting for, kill them and get the money. This is already the border of Strawberry Town, there are often mounted police patrolling in this area, you don't want to attract the police too. After being locked up in the cell for two days, I really need to vent!" After that, Micah rushed into the woods waving his two pistols, and then rushed towards the crowd of O'Driscoll Gang under the cover of the trees.

At this time, the crowd on the opposite side also noticed the few people riding on horses in the distance. Instead of immediately taking the money from the carriage, they rushed towards them with guns raised, howling.

When Arthur saw that the situation was not good, he immediately ordered: "Get off the horse, let's go into the woods too!"

When Lin Yan and others behind him heard this, they quickly turned over and dismounted, and followed Arthur into the pine forest on the side of the road. On the other side, Micah, who had dismounted earlier than everyone else, had reached the attackable range under the cover of trees. Seeing that everyone's attention was attracted by Arthur and his men, he left the shelter behind a big tree, pointed his double guns at the O'Driscoll gang and shouted, "You bastards of the O'Driscoll gang, I'm here to send you to hell!" In an instant, several bullets were ejected from the muzzles of the two revolvers in Micah's hands at the same time, and several unlucky O'Driscoll gang members were shot and fell to the ground in an instant.

After Micah finished firing a round of bullets, he shouted and hid behind a tree again to reload. "Haha, bastards, that was just an appetizer, the main course is still to come!" Arthur saw that Micah's actions attracted most people's attention, so he no longer moved with the help of cover, but quickly moved through the woods with a gun in one hand.

Sadie, who was beside Lin Yan, had a grudge against this gang. Even though she had killed her enemy with her own hands, she still hated this gang. Since Arthur announced that the other party was a member of the gang he hated, Sadie's warlike heart had been eager to try. She wanted to run to the front line to fight with Micah just now, but looking at Lin Yan who had no experience and was unwilling to kill, she thought about it and finally held back.

Seeing Arthur also rushing out, Lenny behind him followed him without hesitation and joined the battle.

Although Lin Yan still had a bit of mercy towards the enemy, he couldn't bear to see his companions get hurt here, so he followed Lenny into the battlefield ahead.

Arthur was heading towards Micah's position. Although he couldn't see Micah's position due to the trees, he could hear his shouting. His purpose was to support Micah, because he knew that even if Micah was a good fighter and had good marksmanship, he couldn't be safe and sound under the siege of more than a dozen people.
