Wilderness Redemption Tour
Chapter 298 Silencing
Because of the small space, Arthur's voice sounded muffled, and coupled with the echo effect of the cave wall, the two combined sounded ethereal.
"But why do they want to cover up the truth? Can't they just tell the villagers the truth? What's the difference between hiding it from those people and directly killing people?" What Sadie asked was what Lin Yan wanted to say.
Arthur shrugged habitually. "That's a question for them. They must have some ulterior motive for going through so much trouble. We've ruined their plan. Their next move will either be to attack us or those villagers. Whichever side they target, I believe they'll take action soon."
As Arthur spoke, he unconsciously quickened his pace. It was not that he wanted to walk fast, but because there was a steep slope here.
Going down the slope to the bottom, everyone finally walked out of this narrow and cramped space. The moment they walked out, they were choked by the pungent smell and started coughing at the same time.
"Cough...cough cough...damn, why is this place so choking!" Sadie complained, covering her nose.
After Lin Yan recovered, he discovered with the light of two kerosene lamps that they were now in a hall. The hall and the ceiling were still nailed with reinforcing wooden boards. In order to fix the wooden boards on the ceiling, a number of wooden stakes about one foot thick were driven into the ground in the hall.
So although this place is called a hall, it is actually not very spacious because of these wooden piles.
But Lin Yan didn't care about this. What he really cared about was the ground environment here.
It seems more appropriate to call the ground here the water surface. Lin Yan didn't know whether the original ground here was stone or soil, because now it was replaced by a pile of water.
The accumulated water should have seeped out from the cave wall or the ground. Affected by the minerals in this place, the water here appears a dull yellow-green color. This color makes Lin Yan unconsciously think of a sewer.
"Is this the polluted water? It's this color..." Arthur frowned as he looked at the sewage that emitted a pungent smell.
"Are we still going forward?" Charles asked Arthur calmly.
Arthur shook his head. "Forget it. It will probably be the same if we go further."
As he spoke, he took out a small bottle about the length of a finger from his bag, squatted down, and carefully scooped out most of the water in the bottle with the bottle, then wiped the bottle clean with the handkerchief he borrowed from Hosea, raised the bottle and shook it, and said, "Now that we have the evidence, we can go back and report to Obadiah, and by the way, tell him about the conspiracy of that charlatan and the company behind him."
Just when Lin Yan and his companions were about halfway home, they heard a "boom" sound without warning in front of them, and then the mine tunnel they were in began to shake violently. This was not the end, and a shock wave with a lot of dust followed. In an instant, the entire tunnel was not only filled with smoke and dust, making it impossible to see anything, but everyone couldn't even stand steadily.
"It was an explosion! Someone wants to bury us completely here!" Arthur said staggeringly, holding up a kerosene lamp. Fortunately, they all wore face masks to block most of the smoke and dust. Otherwise, it would be difficult to even breathe in this area covered by smoke and dust, not to mention talking.
Charles' ears moved. He heard something unusual from the vibration caused by the explosion. After his ears fed back the information to his brain, even the calm Charles could no longer remain calm. He urged everyone in a hurried tone, "Run back! Quick! This passage is about to collapse!"
After hearing what Charles said, the others dared not dawdle any longer. They first held on to the shaking wall of the cave and managed to stand, then ran back in the misty dust.
However, the shaking ground and the poor visibility made it impossible for everyone to speed up. After running for a while, Charles called out to the others again. "Don't run anymore, it's ok, the landslide seems to have stopped."
Out of inertia, Lin Yan ran forward two more steps before stopping. When he was running back just now, the back team became the front team, and he, who was walking at the back, was actually the one leading the way.
In the darkness filled with smoke and dust, the light emitted by the kerosene lamp was as dim as a firefly. If it was a little further away, it would become a hazy and dim gray light spot. Therefore, the four people with different speeds could only judge each other's position by sound.
"Damn it! Don't let me out. When I get out, I will find that bastard and beat him to a pulp!" Although Sadie could not be seen, her threatening complaint indirectly told others her location.
Then, Arthur's voice came from the darkness: "It seems that we have no choice but to move forward this time. There should be other exits ahead."
"The ore in the cave, or the poisonous water, must meet the water of the Kamassa River somewhere. I hope that place is spacious enough." This is Charles' voice.
Lin Yan stood there and waited for a while, and then set off again after Sadie, Arthur and Charles came over one after another. As the smoke and dust in front of them gradually faded, they once again stood in front of the yellow-green puddles.
This cave, which was completely wrapped in wooden boards, still looked the same as Lin Yan had seen just now. The vibration caused by the explosion in the passage did not seem to have any actual impact here.
"Is it okay for us to wade through the water like this?" Sadie asked Lin Yan.
"Uh..." Lin Yan hesitated for a moment, then replied: "This water just looks dirty, but it's actually not corrosive. As long as it doesn't come into contact with the skin, there will be no problem."
"What are you waiting for? Let's go!" Sadie urged, "Who knows if that Indian bastard knows other exits. Sorry, Charles, I didn't mean you." Sadie realized she was speechless and quickly apologized to Charles, her half-Indian companion.
Charles smiled nonchalantly and waved his hand to indicate that it was okay.
After entering the water, the four people divided into two groups, one on the left and one on the right, and searched for other paths along the cave wall in this huge cave. The pungent smell in the cave constantly irritated everyone's respiratory tract, and everyone, including Lin Yan, would cough from time to time.
Soon, something was discovered on the right side that Lin Yan was responsible for.
What appeared in front of him and Sadie was a cave entrance that was lower than the previous passage. It was triangular in shape and there was no trace of artificial processing around it. It seemed to be formed naturally.
"There's a discovery here."
As soon as Sadie saw the cave entrance, she notified Arthur and Charles who were looking for a way on the other side.
