Wilderness Redemption Tour
Chapter 199: Get Back
After politely rejecting several ladies, the other female guests realized that Lin Yan, this young talent, had no interest in them, so they gave up the idea of striking up a conversation with him.
"Alas... Who knew that doing good things also has to pay a price..." Lin Yan stood beside a tree exhausted and complained to Hosea. They were now standing in a corner of the garden. There was no other way. After the story of saving people spread at the banquet, Lin Yan became the most popular person in this place. Not only female guests, but even male guests came to try to make friends with him. He really couldn't stay in a crowded place, so he found a relatively remote corner to seek peace and quiet.
"Ha, if we were really upper class, you would have been able to obtain a lot of potential resources with what you did just now. Unfortunately, we are just a group of robbers who only care about the money in those people's pockets." Hosea was really enlightened tonight. He had never received such treatment when he attended various banquets in his early years.
"Do we need to collect more intelligence?" Lin Yan felt particularly conflicted when he thought about facing some enthusiastic guests again. On the one hand, if the other party is enthusiastic about you, you can get more useful information from him; but on the other hand, compared to the experienced Hosea, he is still a novice, and he really can't handle some of the other party's strange questions.
"No thanks." Hosea smiled and shook his head. "You can't chew more than you can chew. Besides, there's nothing better than a bank full of cash. Let's just rest here for a while, and when the time is right, we'll go straight to Dutch."
Fortunately, there was also a food table in this place. The two ate, drank and chatted, and time soon came to eight o'clock in the evening.
There was a fireworks show at eight o'clock at the banquet. After eating and drinking, Lin Yan took advantage of the fact that everyone's attention was attracted by the fireworks and found Dutch standing at the fountain in the center of the garden with Hosea.
"When are we leaving?" Hosea asked Dutch as soon as he arrived.
"Wait until Arthur comes back." Dutch looked up and pretended to look at the fireworks. In front of everyone, he simply said: "I asked him to do something."
"Oh, it seems that our trip was not in vain." Hosea also implicitly told Dutch that he had also gained something.
Not long after the fireworks show ended, Arthur quietly appeared in front of everyone. He didn't say anything, just nodded at Dutch. Dutch understood, so he said: "Friends, it's getting late, we should leave too."
This sentence was actually said to others. As an invited guest, he couldn't just leave without saying anything, right? Although the origins of his group of people were incompatible with these upper-class people, they still had to have basic courtesy.
After saying this in front of everyone, and then exchanging a few words with the people he had just met tonight, Dutch led a few people through the mayor's mansion and returned to the gate. After taking back their weapons from the guards at the gate, they got back on the carriage waiting at the gate.
After the carriage started, the few people visibly relaxed.
"What have you discovered?" Dutch asked.
"Jamie and I talked to a banker," Hosea said first. "He works at the Lemoyne National Bank. He said that this bank has large sums of money flowing in and out every day. Maybe we can find a way to make a profit. But now is not the time. We need to investigate in advance."
"In Saint-Denis?"
"Yes, it's near Central Park. I've passed by this bank once before." Lin Yan replied.
"These small-scale operations are not enough to keep us going until we get the money back from Blackwater Town. Sooner or later, we will have to launch another big operation," Hosea added.
Dutch did not express his opinion immediately, but mentioned another matter: "What do you think of the tram station that Mr. Bronte mentioned to us?"
"I don't think it's credible." Hosea thought for a moment and shook his head, then analyzed: "A tram ride costs only 50 cents. Even if every tram is full, a round trip will only cost $20, and that's the most optimistic scenario. Even so, its daily revenue will not exceed $500. The risk and return are completely disproportionate."
Dutch still didn't express his opinion. He looked at Arthur and asked, "What did you learn just now?"
Arthur took out a neatly folded piece of paper from his bosom and handed it to Dutch: "This is the document I got. In addition, I heard that there is a Texas Hold'em poker game with high stakes on a high-end yacht at the dock."
Dutch took the paper, stopped the carriage, and read it in the dim light outside. "I'll let Trelawney investigate the matter of the pleasure boat. Did you get caught when you followed the assistant?"
Arthur recalled and answered truthfully: "I don't think so."
"Hmm..." Dutch lowered his head and thought for a moment, muttering, "I have an idea. Let me think about it carefully..."
The carriage started again, and after Lin Yan and Arthur rode their horses in Central Park, they followed the carriage to where Dutch's horses were kept. After paying the fare, the four of them rode non-stop, returning to the camp like a meteor chasing the moon.
The next day at breakfast, seeing Lin Yan's greatly changed appearance, Sadie came up to him with a tray and a curious look on her face.
"Why did you change your appearance? To please those rich girls at the party?"
"Don't mention it..." Lin Yan sighed: "It's all Josiah's fault. He insisted on dressing me up. Dutch didn't do anything and wore a hat, and no one said anything. He was the only one who was too nosy and insisted on dressing me up. If it weren't for this, I wouldn't have attracted so much attention..."
Then, Lin Yan briefly recounted what happened last night. When Sadie heard him say that he was once surrounded by female guests at the banquet, she almost laughed out loud.
After Lin Yan finished speaking, Sadie jokingly asked, "Why, didn't you ask for their contact information? Don't you plan to change your identity and develop a relationship with them?"
Lin Yan rubbed his hair and looked embarrassed: "Don't make fun of me, you know my purpose, how can I have time to communicate with them."
Sadie laughed and stopped joking with Lin Yan about this matter. She turned to ask Daqi. "Didn't he tell you what Daqi was going to do next?"
Lin Yan shook his head. "No, but I just heard Hosea and Lenny say that they are going to Saint Denis to investigate the bank I just mentioned."
"Bank, pleasure boat, tram station, you guys have gained a lot on this trip, I guess Dutch is thinking about them all?"
"I don't think so..." Lin Yan was not sure. "I think we should just pick the one that makes the most money. If we do too much and get targeted by Pinkerton detectives, it will be hard to tell whether we can escape."
