Chapter 165: Selling Stolen Goods on the Black Market

Andrew was so excited that he was gesticulating and spitting everywhere. Lin Yan felt that if he was not stopped, he would talk until Lin Yan gave up this truck of illegal liquor.

"Okay, okay, I thought it was something good. It's just an electric chair. Look at how you're showing off." Lin Yan waved his hand impatiently, as if to shoo away a fly, to stop the short inventor in front of him from continuing.

Lin Yan's impatient attitude was secondary. His words sounded quite vicious to Andrew. Realizing that Lin Yan looked down on his invention, he immediately flew into a rage and shouted at Lin Yan: "What's your attitude? Do you look down on my invention? This is..."

"Sorry, I'm not interested in your invention. Please move aside." Lin Yan pushed away Andrew who was standing at the rear of the carriage and called Sadie to help fix the rear fender again.

"Wait, what do you mean? Are you leaving?" Seeing Lin Yan's actions, Andrew was a little panicked.

Lin Yan looked at him and said helplessly, "If you had a little sincerity in paying, even if you only paid one-third of the market price, I would give you the wine because you helped me introduce the middleman, but you just want to get rid of me with a blank check. You don't really think your invention is so great, do you? Come on, your level of playing with electricity is far inferior to Professor Dragic's."

The way to make a man lose his mind is to compare him with his potential competitors and then criticize him as worthless.

Hearing Lin Yan say in person that he was not as good as Dragic in electrical research, Andrew angrily reached for the wrench in his apron pocket. The cool touch of the handle made his boiling brain briefly regain sanity when facing the black muzzle of a gun.

He loosened the wrench in his hand, turned around and secretly wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, waved his hand unwillingly with his back to Lin Yan, and threw out a "grand statement": "You will definitely regret it! Get out of my house quickly, and it's best not to let me see you again."

Lin Yan snorted contemptuously, thinking that no matter how much you improve your electric chair, it is destined to be replaced by lethal injection in a few decades.

After leaving Andrew's house, Lin Yan drove out of the city again, preparing to cross the Black Swamp and head north to the Emerald Ranch to sell the bootleg liquor and the carriage to the black market merchant Seamus there.

"You seem to be pessimistic about the invention called electric chair." On the way, Sadie once again mentioned this invention that caused Lin Yan's attitude to change dramatically.

"Let me ask you a question," Lin Yan looked at Sadie and said with a smile, "If you were asked to choose an invention that can be perfectly replaced by existing methods and an invention that has never appeared before, which one would you choose?"

"Of course the second one." Sadie answered without hesitation.

"Well, that's right." Lin Yan spread his hands. "The electric chair is just a tool for executing people. There are so many alternatives to it. Ropes, bullets, and even guillotines are all better than it. Don't listen to the inventor who made it sound so grand. In fact, this thing is just a gimmick."

"Really?" Sadie didn't have a concrete understanding of electricity, a new energy source, but based on her common sense and what she saw and heard in Professor Dragic's laboratory yesterday afternoon, she knew that electricity was actually a very dangerous thing.

Seeing that Sadie didn't quite believe it and thinking that the journey was still long, Lin Yan simply told her about the disadvantages of the electric chair.

"Let's not talk about how many times more expensive an electric chair is than a rope or a bullet. Even with the current technology, it is impossible to generate a stable high-voltage current that can kill people. Uh... it doesn't matter if you don't understand these technical terms. Just know that with the current technology, it is difficult for people to be electrocuted and that the death is very ugly."

"If he wasn't electrocuted, then how did he die?"

"He was burned alive."

"How is that possible? Electricity is not fire. How can you be burned to death?"

"Electricity is a very destructive energy. The moment it comes into contact with the skin, it will generate extremely high heat at the point of contact. If the voltage is stable enough, the current can smoothly reach the heart, brain and other key parts of the human body, and it can indeed cause immediate death. But if it is unstable..."

After explaining this, Lin Yan vividly described to Sadie the various tragic scenes of people who were "tortured" to death by the electric chair, including but not limited to exploding eyeballs, burnt bodies, fires, and the disgusting smell after the electric shock. Sadie frowned and her face turned pale after hearing this.

"How do you know this?" After looking at the scenery in the distance for a while, Sadie recovered and looked at Lin Yan.

Lin Yan thought that he couldn't say that he had searched for this kind of information on the Internet out of curiosity, so he laughed dryly and said, "Uh... I read a few books and figured it out myself... I figured it out, hehe..."

Sadie was not stupid. She obviously did not believe Lin Yan's perfunctory words, but she did not continue to ask. Instead, she turned her head and whispered, "You are so talented, but it's really unfair for you to follow Dutch..."

It took Lin Yan more than three hours to drive the carriage to the Emerald Ranch. When he arrived in front of Seamus' warehouse, this guy was sitting on a bench next to the warehouse with a plate in his hand, eating the yellow-green paste on it with relish.

After not seeing them for more than 20 days, he had forgotten that he had ever seen Lin Yan and Sadie. Seeing the two "strangers", he put down the plate, stood up and said warily: "This is private territory. If you want to buy livestock, go to the back."

"Seamus, it's us." Lin Yan jumped off the carriage, took two steps forward, took off his hat to show his whole face and said, "Have you forgotten that we met before? We are Hosea's friends, and we helped you rob your relative, your cousin..."

"Oh, it's you!" Seamus slapped his head. He looked at the carriage behind Lin Yan and asked, "Are you here to sell things?"

"Yes." Lin Yan nodded and asked, "Can you handle a truckload of illegal liquor?"

"It's a small matter." Seamus turned around and pushed open the warehouse door behind him. "Drive the car in and talk."

After driving the carriage into the warehouse, Seamus closed the door, opened the carriage tailgate, took out a bottle of moonshine, opened it and took a sip.

"Well! Good quality! How about two dollars a gallon? This was the price when Hosea came before."

Considering that he would be working with him frequently recently, Lin Yan nodded decisively. "Okay." After saying that, he pointed at the carriage and asked, "Do you want this carriage?"

"Yes, I will. All horses and carts are the same price, regardless of type. Ten dollars for a horse and twenty dollars for a cart."

"No problem." Lin Yan nodded again and said, "Let's start settling the accounts."
