Wilderness Redemption Tour
Chapter 163 Stagecoach
The ticket office at Lodz Station is a square space with one side against the wall and three sides surrounded. The interior space is very spacious. There is a window on each side, which is responsible for ticket sales, mail delivery and mail collection. However, there is only one staff member in dark uniform. Because of his beard, Lin Yan cannot judge his approximate age from his face. Lodz is a small place with few passengers and very few mail business. Because there are not many passengers, the ticket seller is sitting behind the window in charge of ticket sales, playing with his fingers in boredom.
Lin Yan guessed that he should be the Alden that Andrew mentioned, but in order to avoid mistaking him for someone else, he still sought confirmation before stating his purpose.
"Hello, are you Alden?" Lin Yan walked to the ticket window and asked through the window.
Hearing a customer coming, the conductor stood up calmly, adjusted his hat, and then said, "Yes, I am. What can I do for you?"
"Andrew asked me to come to you. He has an invention that requires a hundred gallons of moonshine. He said..." Before Lin Yan could finish his words, Alden changed his leisurely attitude and interrupted him in a hurry.
"Shh! Keep your voice down! Be careful not to be heard by someone with ulterior motives. I don't want to lose my job because of this."
Lin Yan looked back at the empty station hall except for him and Sadie, "Is there no one else here?"
Alden also realized that his reaction just now was a bit extreme. "Anyway, just be careful about everything." He waved his hand, signaling Lin Yan not to worry about it.
After that, even though there was no one in the waiting hall, he lowered his voice and said, "You came at the right time. I just got some information about bootleg liquor today. Since you were introduced by Andrew, and considering that he helped me with a few small things, I'll give you a friendly price... twenty dollars."
"So expensive?" He had to spend money before he made any money. Before yesterday, Lin Yan might have thought that twenty dollars was just a small amount of money and would have given it, but now he felt an invisible pressure on his back, forcing him to find ways to save every penny. He hadn't felt this way since he graduated from college, found a stable job, and had relatively ample wealth. He didn't expect to experience it again in the game.
"Is this expensive?" Alden showed a heartbroken expression. "This is already a friendly price for Andrew's sake. Others who come to me for information ask for thirty at least, so you can be happy if I ask you for twenty. I tell you, the information I got is that it was a carriage full of bootleg liquor. What do you mean by full? At least 200 gallons! Didn't Andrew only want 100 gallons? The rest is yours. Even if these bootleg liquors are sold on the black market, they can be worth 200 or 300."
"Is that so..." Hearing that there was extra money to be made from this mission, Lin Yan smiled slightly and took out twenty dollars from his space bag and handed it over. "Okay then, I'll do as you say."
Alden took the money, looked past Lin Yan at the clock in the waiting hall and said, "A carriage from the south will pass by the bridge over the Blue Water Swamp in the north of Saint Denis around 2 pm. I suggest you set off now."
"Around two o'clock..." Lin Yan followed Alden's gaze and looked at the wall clock in the waiting hall, then opened the system map to see the distance from here to the Blue Water Swamp. It was almost noon now, and if he set out now and rode slowly, he would arrive at the place he mentioned in about two hours.
"I understand. Thanks for the reminder." Lin Yan turned around and was about to leave when Alden stopped him.
"Hey, after talking for so long, I still don't know your name."
"Jamie, Jamie Custer." Lin Yan turned around and introduced himself. "Anything else?"
"Oh, Jamie, eh?" Alden clasped his hands on the window counter. "I wonder if you're interested in stagecoaches? I've got some news on them, and if you want to make some money, you can come back to me when you're done."
"Stage coach?" Alden's words opened up new ideas for Lin Yan. Although he had never ridden in a stage coach, he knew about this means of transportation. This means of transportation can be found in almost every town, including Valentine, Strawberry, Rhodes, St. Denis, Annesburg, and even Emerald Ranch. In addition to carrying passengers, they sometimes also transport some items. These items are often of little value and small in size, so it is not worth hiring a carriage to transport them. Because robbing a stage coach generally does not make much money, the risk is not proportional to the reward, so almost no one is willing to attack this type of vehicle. However, some clients take advantage of this inertial thinking of others and secretly smuggle or transport some valuable things in these goods. As long as the information is accurate, the risk is worth taking.
"Yes, the stagecoach." Alden thought Lin Yan didn't know the ins and outs of this, so he simply explained: "It occasionally transports valuables. This kind of information is usually only known by insiders like us. Although it may be false information deliberately released by others, the accuracy is at least 90%."
At this moment, Lin Yan really wanted to rush over and hug him tightly and say, "You are the rescuer sent by the system", but due to his face and physical obstacles, he just smiled reservedly, twisted his hips, and returned to his previous position in just one step. He pressed the counter with his left hand and reached for the bag at his waist with his right hand, looking eagerly at the man who could make him rich quickly.
"How many messages? Will it conflict? How much?"
"Uh..." Alden didn't expect Lin Yan to be so anxious, and he didn't know what to say for a moment. After his brain reacted, he said, "No hurry, first you have to prove that you have the ability, wait until you finish the task at hand before coming back."
"Okay then." Lin Yan shrugged, with a hint of disappointment in his voice. "I was thinking of coming here less often, but it seems I can't save it. See you later."
"I wish you success." Alden waved at Lin Yan and sat down again.
Although he did not immediately ask about the subsequent carriage route, Lin Yan was excited to find a new way to make money. Thinking that the financial crisis would be resolved soon, he did not feel hungry after running around for a whole morning.
After arriving near the bridge that Alden mentioned, Lin Yan took out his pocket watch to check the time. It was just past one o'clock and he still had to wait here for another hour.
After finding an open space to rest, Lin Yan took out two handfuls of oats from his space bag to reward his and Sadie's horses respectively, and then took out some canned biscuits. The two sat on the ground and had a simple lunch.
