Chapter 149 Father’s debt is paid by son
After being dragged into the house by Algie Davidson, a thousand beasts were running through Lin Yan's heart, and he almost wanted to compete with him in singing the quintessence of Chinese culture.
The words were on the tip of his tongue, but thinking that it was rare for someone to pay back the money so readily this time, Lin Yan suppressed the urge.
After Algie Davidson pulled Lin Yan into the house, he pushed the door and entered the room on the right.
"Dad, didn't you go fishing? Someone knocked on the door just now and I didn't open it. Who is here?" Lin Yan heard another person's voice coming from inside the room.
He walked to the door and found a black youth standing at a square table by the wall, looking somewhat at a loss. Hearing footsteps at the door, he turned to look at Lin Yan.
"There's someone at home... I knocked on the door for a long time but no one answered. I thought no one was home." Lin Yan stood at the door, holding the door frame and observing the room.
This room is a bit like a mixture of a kitchen and a dining room, with a fireplace, dining table, food cabinet, sink and everything else. If it weren't for the indescribable smell in the house, just looking at the layout of the room, this should be a family that is not short of money.
Algie Davidson looked at his son who was standing there in a daze and shouted, "Don't just stand there like an idiot. Give us something to drink."
"Oh..." The black youth, who was about the same height as Lin Yan, responded and moved according to his father's instructions.
"Sorry, Nate is a bit timid, so the front door of the house is always locked." Algie Davidson said as he walked to the sink, squatted down, opened the storage cabinet under the sink, and then began to rummage.
Lin Yan, who was watching him rummaging behind him, rubbed his nose and frowned, "The money is under the sink?"
"Of course, I think this is the best place to hide the money." Algie Davidson took out a box from the locker, then turned to his son behind him and asked, "Where is the wine I asked you to pour?"
"...On the table, Dad."
"Why are you putting it on the table? Bring it over here and give it to this gentleman."
The young man called Nate by Algee Davidson obediently picked up two wine glasses, walked between the two men, handed one to his father and the other to Lin Yan.
Algie Davidson took his glass of wine and raised the box in his hand towards Lin Yan, "The money you want is right here. You can't run away. Drink this glass of wine and it's yours."
Lin Yan looked at the box in Algee Davidson's hand, then at the wine glass handed to him by Nate. He couldn't refuse and had to take the glass.
When Nate poured the wine, Lin Yan also kept half of his attention on him. After knowing that he did not "add anything" to the wine, Lin Yan raised his glass to Algee Davidson and gave him a toast, and then they both drank the wine in the glass at the same time.
As soon as he finished his drink, Algie Davidson handed over the box as promised.
"This is our life savings, and now it's yours."
Lin Yan took the box and felt it was light and weightless in his hand. He instinctively felt that there must be something wrong. So, when he opened the box, he was very careful. He seemed to focus all his attention on the things in the box, but in fact, he didn't care about the box in his hand at all. Instead, he focused most of his attention on Algie Davidson and his son Nate.
Seeing Lin Yan open the box, Algie Davidson grinned and revealed a cruel smile. A sharp dagger appeared in his right hand at some point, and when Lin Yan was distracted and looked inside the box, he grabbed the dagger and stabbed Lin Yan in the abdomen.
Fortunately, Lin Yan had been alert in advance and had been on guard against the father and son in the house from beginning to end. After noticing Algie Davidson's actions, he quickly retreated, intending to avoid this dangerous attack first and distance himself from the two men.
Algie Davidson's attack missed, but he did not pause at all. He waved the dagger and followed Lin Yan's footsteps to launch a second wave of attack.
"Don't run! I'm going to chop your head off!"
Lin Yan had seen a lot of storms these days, and looking at the fisherman's clumsy but continuous and persistent attacks, he decisively threw the box in his hand at the other party, and then, when he was distracted and subconsciously dodged, he pulled out his pistol and accurately shot his right hand holding the dagger.
"Ouch!" Algie Davidson dropped the weapon in his hand in pain, but he still rushed towards Lin Yan with fierce eyes, vowing to fight him to the death.
Since you want to die, you can't blame me...
Looking at the ferocious fisherman in front of him, Lin Yan was no longer merciful. He once again relied on his agile body to dodge the opponent's attack and fired another bullet from the revolver in his hand.
This time, the bullet was aimed at Algee Davidson's forehead.
Algie Davidson, with a bloody hole on his forehead, seemed to have all his life suddenly drained away. He collapsed to the ground powerlessly, and his bloodshot eyes were still wide open after his death, as if he couldn't believe that he was the one who died.
After killing the fisherman who suddenly went crazy, Lin Yan pointed the gun at Nate.
"Jamie, are you okay?" Sadie's voice came from outside the house.
"I'm fine, don't worry." Lin Yan looked at the young man who was shivering in the corner because of the gunshots and his father's death, and replied by lowering his arm holding the gun.
After reporting to Sadie that he was safe, Lin Yan said to Nate, "I'm sorry. You saw it too. I had no choice but to kill your father."
"I knew this day would come." Nate, who was hiding in the corner, noticed that Lin Yan seemed to have no ill will towards him, so he gradually became bolder.
"Oh? Did you know that your father would end up like this?" Hearing him say that, Lin Yan asked with interest.
"What good will a man who only knows how to drink, beat and scold his wife and children have, especially after he starts borrowing usury." Nate rubbed his eyes, looked at his father lying on the ground, and said without any nostalgia: "It's better for him to die, so that I can go find my mother and live with her."
"That's right..."
From Nate's words, Lin Yan suddenly felt that he seemed to have done something good.
The debtor was dead, but the debt had not been collected. Thinking that the saying "sons pay their father's debts" seemed to be common abroad, Lin Yan pointed at Algie Davidson, who was lying on the ground with his eyes open, and said, "I haven't received the money your father owed us. What do you think I should do?"
"How...how much money? How much does my father owe you?" When Nate heard Lin Yan mention the debt, his heart, which had originally been relieved, was weighed down again.
Lin Yan reached into his pocket and took out the small note Leopold had given him, and said, "39 dollars, you can pay the debt with something valuable."
Hearing this amount, Nate calculated it in his mind and breathed a sigh of relief.
"I secretly saved some money before, about 30 yuan. There is also a gunpowder gun in the room, which we use for self-defense. It should be worth some money. If these are not enough, you can take whatever you like in this room, and just leave some for me."
