Traveling through The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim

Chapter 99 Helgi's Journey to Social Death

I followed Lucia out of Howling Bastion and came to an open space. This might be the property of a noble. Because the house had not been built yet, Custer used it to train Bryce. The little devil's short hair stood up like a burst cattail, and he stood there crying loudly. I was sure that this funny shape was a masterpiece of electric magic, and the perpetrator was standing next to it with a look of contempt.

Helgi was wearing a Forsworn hide armor decorated with two strings of beast teeth and an ice wolf's tail. She had a short sword and quiver hanging from her waist, and a bow on her back. Her long hair was tied into a complicated bun, decorated with colorful bird feathers and bone hairpins. She had never dressed like this before. This was probably the makeup that Reach women used for formal occasions. This girl must have participated in the attack on the Sunshine Garden Fortress as an important figure. Now she has returned triumphantly and is in high spirits. I guess Bryce must have been ignorant of his own limitations and kicked the steel plate with his legs.

"Helgi, you're back. What happened?"

Asking questions even though you already know the answer is the best way to start a conversation.

Unfortunately, the warm and cozy scene of the brother and sister reuniting after a short separation did not happen. When Helgi saw me, he glared at Lucia with resentment, lowered his head and ran away. Barbas continued to play the role of a pet dog and followed closely behind, leaving me alone with my arms outstretched in embarrassment, at a loss.

"Bryce, stop crying! Tell me why you two were fighting?"

The little devil raised her howl twice. I turned to Lucia, but she just shook her head desperately.

"I... I don't know. Bryce was training and I was reading a book nearby. Then Helgi came back and made Bryce like that... So I ran to find you."

Lucia pointed to a book in the corner to prove that she was not lying.

I spent some time to comfort Bryce, and finally pieced together part of the story from her incoherent narration. Custer made a training dummy for her and taught her some basic offensive moves. After making sure that Bryce had mastered the essentials, he left her to practice repeatedly and went back to take care of the cemetery. At this time, Helgi left behind the large army led by Tager and returned alone.

The two girls were probably the same age, and Helgi was perhaps a few months older, but she was short and slender, and looked easy to bully. Bryce, who had just learned a few moves, was full of confidence. When he saw Helgi carrying a bow and a sword, he suggested that the two of them fight.

Helgi refuses, but she then uses her lightning to blast the training dummy to pieces, incidentally giving Bryce a rather edgy haircut.

In general, the matter was similar to what I guessed. It was caused by Bryce's provocation. I don't know how much this girl will have to suffer before she can learn a little. And Bryce was probably only saying things that were beneficial to her. If her words were not too hurtful, how could Helgi blow up the training dummy?

But this doesn't explain Helgi's attitude towards me. I haven't seen her for a while, and even if something happened to make her angry, it shouldn't be attributed to me. And she was obviously very unhappy about Lucia's behavior of asking me to come. What's wrong with this girl? Could it be that she has been fooling around with Moira and Annis these days, and was turned against by the two aunts?

Lucia also called Caster. After listening to what happened, he severely criticized Bryce and warned that if she caused trouble again, she would be expelled from the sect. The little devil was then taken away to be punished, and I sent Lucia to find Helgi. The girl was hiding from me, but it should be easier for the sisters to talk to each other. I told Lucia that it would be best to get Babas out. The dog must know what happened, but he was unwilling to speak in front of so many people.

Everyone dispersed and I saw Annis running towards me, panting.

"Helgi... Is Helgi back?"

I told the old aunt about Helgi's strange behavior. Anis took a deep breath and took me to the Wine of the Dead.

"Come here, I want to tell you something."

We chose a small private room in the corner. Lydia stood guard at the door. After Annis entered the room, he sighed and told me about Helgi's experience.

After Annis facilitated our cooperation with Moira, he moved into Falkreath as a special envoy of the Reachmen, and Helgi also moved here with her aunt. Tagel soon found them and contacted Moira to discuss the plan of attacking Sunny Garden Fortress. Because our troops were limited and we wanted to preserve the strength of the Snake Cliff Ridge Tribe as much as possible, Tagel did not plan to attack by force, but proposed a plan based on rebellion. Helgi was very enthusiastic about being able to participate in this operation, and even prepared clothes and jewelry for it, and had his hair done.

The winter in Skyrim is long and cold. It is a very difficult time for all creatures, and the situation faced by the Snake Cliff Tribe is particularly severe. As the tribe's original territory was occupied, they lost most of their winter reserves. Most prey chose to reduce their activities in winter to store heat, and the Reachmen, who mainly rely on fishing and hunting, could not get even the minimum supplies. To make matters worse, the military actions of the Imperial Legion forced them to shrink their defenses, exacerbating the food crisis.

The two leaders, Stella and Zoltan, lacked the ability to lead the tribe independently. These two people probably couldn't even manage a small or medium-sized tribe with less than 100 people, not to mention that the number of people had now skyrocketed to more than 300, and they were living in an unfamiliar castle. In addition, they were not in the right position, and they had few confidants they could trust, so they soon made many stupid moves.

The most trusted ones were Zoltan's former subordinates, about thirty people, who were arranged to live in the castle. There were also thirty or forty people from the Snake Cliff Ridge tribe who followed them, plus the young refugees that the two of them liked, a total of about a hundred people, who were arranged near the castle. Among the remaining more than two hundred people, half were old and young, and were driven to the outermost part. These people not only had to find food on their own, but were also often robbed by the core members, and some were even taken away as sacrifices for Stella's transformation experiment. It was through contact with these peripheral personnel that Moira learned about the chaotic situation in the tribe.

Taghel's psychological warfare tactics are divided into three parts.

First, the Falkreath army brought a large amount of supplies, built a fire and cooked near the fortress, and invited the Reachmen to dine together. All the Reachmen who came to surrender were disarmed and moved to the rear. This move basically captured all the hungry refugees and disintegrated the outermost defense.

Then, Helgi came forward and accused Stella and Zoltan of betraying the chieftain of Xinammon, attempting to murder the chieftain's heir, and leading the tribe into a desperate situation. The little girl first recalled the good times she had lived in Snake Cliff Ridge, and then tearfully recounted her mother's tragic death and her own experience, successfully arousing the sympathy and resonance of the tribe members.

At this point, the two traitors only had less than 20 loyal followers left. They huddled in the innermost part of the castle, ready to use the favorable terrain to resist stubbornly. It was Moira's turn to perform. The crow hag tore through the opponent's defense with her unparalleled strength. Stella's pitiful magic was like a joke in front of a real master. Soldiers rushed in quickly, and she was soon hit by several arrows and was unable to fight again. But people still underestimated the terrifying combat power of the Heart of Thorns. Zoltan rushed left and right, and there was no one in front of him who could match him. But in the end, his two fists could not fight against more than 300 hands, and his defeat was doomed.

The two were in a desperate situation, but they did not panic. Instead, they stood together, proudly facing the enemies who surrounded them. Helgi pushed the soldiers aside and ran to the front, humbly begging Zoltan to give up resistance, and even expressed his willingness to help him and Stella, as long as the other could survive. Anis then realized that the reason why his niece dressed up so carefully was actually to make a last effort to save the man she loved.

Stella spat out a mouthful of blood, leaned weakly in Zoltan's arms, gently stroking the thorn seed that replaced her heart, and she didn't even bother to look at Helgi. The man's fingers brushed through his lover's hair, as gentle as the spring breeze blowing over the fortress, and he whispered in a low voice, and Stella smiled sadly in response. Zoltan suddenly burst into a roar, then pointed at Helgi's nose and cursed, and also made public the private affairs of their tryst, and ridiculed her to the utmost, saying that she had no charm whether she was wearing clothes or not.

Helgi fainted on the spot.

Moira, Annis, and Tagel attacked almost at the same time. Fireballs and lightning whizzed out with arrows. When the smoke cleared, only a pile of charcoal remained. Helgi was quickly rescued, but Annis said that the girl had not smiled since that day, and she ate very little, and it looked like she was eating candles or sawdust. She now extremely rejected people and things related to the Reach people. She didn't talk to others and refused to listen to Annis's lectures. When approaching the city of Falkreath, Helgi suddenly left the team and ran away like crazy. The old aunt was exhausted in chasing her.

Talking about Helgi's current condition, Anis was very sad. She knew that one should treat one's heart disease with one's own medicine. She even said that if I was interested in Helgi, she would not stop me. As long as her beloved niece could be happy, everything could be discussed.

"What are you talking about? I've said before that I treat Helgi as my daughter, or as my sister, and I don't have any romantic feelings for her. As for how to enlighten her, I want to take her on a long journey to Hafingar. Helgi still has a long life ahead of her, and she still has a lot to experience. This time, let her say goodbye to the past. We don't need to rush to persuade her, let her calm down first. If you agree, I plan to let her live in the Bloody Throne for a few days. There are fewer people there, so she can stay away from these rumors, and it will also allow us to prepare for the adventure."

Annis agreed.

The large army led by Tagel entered the city at dusk. In addition to the soldiers, there were also quite a few Reachmen. According to our original agreement, Moira left less than 50 people in Sunny Garden Fortress, and the rest of the tribe members came to Falkreath to work. Annis had to coordinate the work, food, clothing, housing and transportation of these people during this period, and introduce them to the culture and laws of the Nords to avoid unnecessary friction.

Currently, there are seven jobs available for the Rich people to choose from, including construction, transportation, military service, farming, fishing, mining and logging. People can sign up according to their own wishes and then be selected by the employer. Dad sent Winnie from the Rich Guard to review the qualifications of those who sign up for the military. Those who want to farm have to go to the north of the Pinewood Watchtower. The location of the Lake View Manor in the game will be reclaimed into a new farm, which will be run by the Mathis couple from the original Corpse Light Farm. They will be responsible for teaching agricultural technology to the Rich people. Because the land there needs to be replanned and reclaimed, the time is tight and the task is heavy.

After Annis settled these people, he rushed back to the Snake Cliff Tribe to count the wealth they seized with Moira and list the materials needed so that we can finalize the time for the first market. Danger and I still suggest that Moira accept the baron's appointment. Only in this way can the Sunny Garden Fortress become the territory of Falkreath in legal terms to avoid the attack of Whiterun. Don't look at the current situation of Lord Balgruuf being caught in a dilemma. That's because he has to deal with threats from the four directions of southeast, northwest and northeast at the same time. Once he can free the troops in the south, there is no guarantee that he will not make some noise in other directions.

I held a meeting with Brother Danger overnight to discuss the alliance with Lord Balgruuf. The other party proposed to redeem the captives of the Whiterun leader with one tenth of the ransom, which is 50 Septim per person, about 30 or 40 people. In addition, there are some details of the cooperation that need to be finalized. The most critical thing is the military coordination and command. Balgruuf hopes to gain some advantage in this regard, but Danger is unwilling to give in.

Since Annis and I both have important matters to attend to, Lucia will have to keep an eye on Helgi to prevent her from doing something stupid. The meeting will be held in two days, on the 23rd of the Rising Sun Month, and I will definitely attend. After that, I can return to the Blood Throne to deal with my own affairs.
