Traveling through The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim

Chapter 6 Returning to the old business

I now understand a little bit why the ancients said "a day in the cave is a thousand years in the world". It is difficult to distinguish between day and night in the cave, which makes it easy for people to lose their judgment of time. Based on the number of sleep and meals, I guessed that it should have been about a week. I used this time to figure out the situation of the cave outside the treasure room. Rigel has more than 50 people under her, which is considered a very powerful gang. The three most capable ones are her old lover Rawls, as well as Woolf and Cindy.

Cindy is a slim Nord girl, the leader of the Rich. According to Rigel, her village was massacred by Ulfric because she had treated the wounded of the Forsworn. This girl escaped by herding sheep and hid in the black pine forest. Finally, she was recruited by Rigel. Although Cindy has only seven people under her, she is the eyes of the whole gang. The two people on the roadside in Falkreath are under her leadership. The other two leaders each command a dozen people. One goes out to rob, and the other will guard the house. Rawls was killed by a trap while stealing things while guarding the house. Rigel will also lead people out, so among the more than 50 people, there are often about 30 wandering outside. She doesn't go out often, once a week, because the base is too close to Falkreath. Although the lord is a waste now, it's better to be safe than sorry. The chatterbox Eddie who calls me sister-in-law and the other two are responsible for logistics. They take care of food, clothing, and housing.

After eating sixteen meals of paste in a row, I angrily accused Eddie of not knowing how to cook. This guy was not convinced. He said that from the leader to the newcomer, I was the only one who expressed dissatisfaction, which was enough to prove that his cooking skills were superb and impeccable. He also said provocatively: If you can do it, you can do it. This hit me right in the face. I am not good at fighting, so how can cooking be difficult for me?

The result was really stumping.

Cooking should at least pay attention to the color, aroma and taste. Eddie has a fixed routine for cooking, which is to cut vegetables and meat into pieces, boil them into a sticky soup, and then sprinkle them with seasonings; or eat barbecue after "making a big deal". The taste is magical with sweetness as the base taste, but Eddie has never even heard of sugar. He uses honey to sweeten the taste. Generally, there are two operations: sweet and salty and sour and sweet. One is to add salt, and the other is to add orange or grape juice. What flavor to make depends on what seasonings are in the storage room at the time.

The staple food, bread, was mainly obtained through robbery, and Cindy would occasionally be responsible for purchasing. There were several large bags of flour in the cave, which were brought back from Helgen, and no one knew what to do with them. In the storage room, there were cabbages, carrots, and potatoes, which were the most durable and in the largest quantities. There were also some tomatoes, and plenty of onions and garlic. The meats were pork, mutton, and venison, in small quantities, and they were pickled, because there were no refrigerators in Skyrim. Eddie raised two chickens on the farm, and the eggs were specially provided to Rigel, but she often used them to reward others, so there was not much stock. The only seasoning was salt, and the honey was used up. When Rigel led the team out, she said she would bring some back.

Eddie had been criticized for not cooking sweet food these days, and he wanted to divert the conflict. Rigel didn't allow me to leave the cave, and now she was not at home, so I took the excuse of cooking to go to the ground to get some fresh air.

Looking at the inventory in the storage room, I felt a bit stuck. I couldn't cook any dishes that needed to be stir-fried quickly over high heat. I didn't have the usual seasonings such as soy sauce, vinegar, and chili peppers, and the oil from the pickled pork was inedible. Eddie crossed his shoulders, looking smug, with an expression of "I knew you couldn't do it", which was really infuriating. If I could go back to the restaurant kitchen, I would have a hundred dishes to shut him up. I glanced at the storage room again unwillingly, wondering whether to make a whole stew, and my eyes fell on the flour again, "Luo Ke, you idiot, such a slow cook deserves to be unemployed, why do you have to cook?"

"I will use this flour. Then bring me water, carrots, cabbage, onions, garlic, mutton, and salt. Oh, and give me the rest of the eggs."

"Sister-in-law, we don't have an oven, what do you want flour for?"

"Silly boy, just wait till your eyes are opened."

Mix flour with water. Chop mutton, cabbage, carrots and onions separately. The knife makes a sound like a horse hoof on the chopping board. Eddie is stunned. The eggs should be fried first, but the conditions do not allow it, so he has to beat them directly into the cabbage and mix them evenly. The mutton is also mixed with the carrots.

"Sister-in-law, what are you doing?"

"Call me brother! Call me brother and I'll tell you."

"elder brother."

"This is called: dumplings." I introduced the traditional Chinese food to the bandits in a clear and clear voice, "This is a high-end delicacy that can only be eaten during festivals. You are in for a treat."

I found a suitable wooden stick to use as a rolling pin. If my knife skills only surprised Eddie, then rolling the dough was completely beyond his understanding. When he saw me wrapping the fillings into the dough, Eddie was completely petrified. I was busy for several hours to make dumplings for more than 20 people, divided into two types: cabbage and egg vegetarian fillings and carrot and mutton fillings. Later, Eddie reluctantly learned how to roll the dough. The cooperation between us greatly improved our efficiency.

In order to cook dumplings, I followed Eddie outside the cave. Although I didn't leave the room, I was excited. It was daytime, probably close to noon. It was great to breathe fresh air. Watching the dumplings slowly swell in the boiling water, I suddenly felt homesick.

"Sister-in-law...Brother, why are you crying?"

"Ah? It's okay, the smoke hurt my eyes. Okay, this pot is cooked, change the filling and let the brothers give more suggestions."

"Okay!" Eddie went into the cave with a bowl of dumplings and came out a few minutes later. "Brother, the brothers asked if we could cook it faster?"
