Traveling through The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim
Chapter 47: Bora's Oath Sword
Helgi was greedy, which was a good thing, because the pine needle tea had a good effect on her fever, but my ankle had not completely recovered and I still couldn't run fast. Before I knew it, we had been chatting for most of the day. It got dark earlier in the canyon, so we took turns to keep watch and spent another night in the camp.
I don't have much confidence in hunting rabbits. As the saying goes, a cunning rabbit has three burrows. These little guys dig complex caves underground, and it is impossible to block them all. I am worried that the rabbits will be chased and run around, alarming other creatures in the canyon. We are just resting in the open space near the entrance. What if there is a hibernating bear in there? People are very irritable when they wake up. But the little girl is very excited. She said there are many traces of rabbits digging in this canyon, and she has a way to drive them out. My wolf only needs to block outside and catch one or two, and everyone can have a snack.
Like other Reich people, Helgi also started playing with bows and swords at the age of eight. Especially in recent years, she often went to meet Zoltan under the pretext of practicing martial arts. In order to hide their tracks, the two of them would practice for a while, and then "by the way" have a meal together, chat, do some post-exercise stretching, etc. So this girl boasted that she was a very good hunter, but she was still young and couldn't use a hard bow.
"Don't use smoke. There are either fallen leaves or pine trees here. If a wildfire starts, we'll be finished."
"I know, I know, hurry up!"
After daybreak, we came to a large open space between the camp and the pond. There were many caves hidden under the dead grass. We both started to cast spells at the same time. My summon was of course the ghost wolf, but Helgi summoned a slender, pure white animal. Was it a weasel? Uh... a white weasel?
The weasel went into the burrow without hesitation, and soon a rabbit jumped out and fled into the canyon.
"Catch it! Catch it now, big stupid wolf!"
The rabbit turned left and right, constantly changing its route, making the ghost wolf run around, and finally found an opening and escaped. Seeing the prey escape into the depths of the canyon, the ghost wolf chased in without looking back.
"Ah! This stupid wolf! Come back quickly!"
According to Helgi, they often used this method to catch rabbits. They would not chase the ones that escaped, but would always block the entrance of the cave and wait for the stoat to drive out the others. Now that the wolf had run away, she had no choice but to take the stoat back, otherwise all the rabbits that were driven out would run away and she would have nothing to eat.
Helgi followed the direction where the ghost wolf disappeared and turned behind a rock. He soon shouted for me to come over. I found a branch as a crutch and limped after it. There was a big pine tree in the canyon. Under the tree were two hunters who looked like they had died not long ago. They were probably the owners of the camp where we were staying temporarily.
"It was the tree spirit who did it. They should have had another person. I don't know where he ran off to."
Helgi kicked a thick dead tree full of arrows at his feet, and I realized that this thing was the legendary tree spirit. This thing was about the same height as Helgi. In the game, it was a graceful woman, but now it looked like a dead tree trunk. We soon found out the whereabouts of the third hunter. At the end of the canyon was a long stone staircase. My ghost wolf was bending down at the bottom, confronting a big white wolf above. The battle was about to break out, and in a flash of lightning, the ghost wolf escaped.
The opponent who was just grinning suddenly disappeared. The big white wolf was obviously stunned for a moment, and then it pounced on me from a high position. I was already very proficient in the spell of summoning ghost wolves. The white wolf had just pounced into the air when it collided with the newly summoned ghost wolf, howling and rolling on the ground. Helgi saw the opportunity very quickly. When the white wolf pounced forward, she rolled to the side and grabbed the hunter's iron sword, but the girl underestimated the weight of the iron sword. The long sword of the oath-breaker is mainly made of vines. Generally, three tough vines are used to weave the sword body. Sharp iron nails and iron sheets are sandwiched between the vines as the blade. It is more like a caltrop than a long sword. This thing is very light and has high damage. Once it is hooked, it is inevitable that a piece of meat will fall off the body. The disadvantage is naturally the hardness deviation. Helgi grabbed the iron sword with one hand and couldn't lift it. She screamed, swung the sword with both hands and smashed it on the wolf's head. I also picked up the tree spirit corpse on the ground and joined the battle. This thing is thick and hard, like a demon pestle, much more powerful than a mattock. The ghost wolf lost half of its life when it was hit, and it staggered and couldn't walk properly. After all, it is the lowest level summoned creature and can only be used to attract attention. I still have to learn how to summon ice elements quickly.
The white wolf was hit by the summoned beast and lost the initiative. Under the repeated attacks of the two of us, its back was soon broken and it fell to the ground vomiting blood. We found the body of the third hunter in the bushes nearby, gathered the three poor guys together, and stripped off their armor and weapons. Picking up corpses is really the only way to make a fortune in Skyrim Province. Soon, we were no longer unarmed refugees, but were fully armed. Helgi couldn't use the long sword, so he took two daggers and put them on his waist, and slung the longbow. With the weapons in hand, the little girl straightened her back and became confident. She was no longer the decadent look she had yesterday. She always thought I was a mage and was very surprised that I could shoot arrows, but she soon laughed at my level.
I picked up a mattock and dug a big hole to bury the three hunters, but unfortunately I couldn't find any information about their identities and couldn't notify their families. When I was dragging the bodies, I heard Helgi swallowing her saliva. This girl still didn't listen to my advice!
"We lived in someone else's tent, ate their bread, and now all our equipment belongs to them. It was these three people who saved our lives! How could you..."
Helgi was holding the dead wolf in his hand, looking at me with a wronged look on his face.
"I'm hungry! I didn't catch any rabbits, so the wolf can't eat them, right?"
Uh……
Wolf meat was very hard and not very tasty, especially since we lacked condiments. It felt like we were chewing a tree trunk. Helgi and I each ate a hind leg, then cut the remaining meat into small strips and hung them over the fire to smoke into jerky. I leaned on the tree spirit and walked deeper into the canyon. When I saw the white wolf, I already knew where this place was: the bloated man's cave. In this case, I had to take away the most important trophy to make this trip worthwhile.
After eating, Helgi became the lively and clever little ghost again. She jumped and followed me, saying that she wanted to protect me, a disabled person. We climbed the stairs and came to a ruin. It might have been a temple in the past, but now only four walls are left. The rubble of the collapsed roof was scattered all over the ground, and weeds grew everywhere. The ruins were dilapidated and the scene was extremely desolate. Only the statue of Talos still stood, but it was also covered with moss. To my surprise, Helgi actually bowed respectfully to the statue of Talos.
"Do the Reachmen also worship Talos?"
"I don't know what Talos is, but look, this guy has a snake tail. My mother said that people blessed by the Raven God will become half-human, half-beast, and awaken powerful powers. This guy is at least a demigod, right? It's only right that I worship him."
I was speechless for a moment. The statues of Talos are all of them with giant snakes under their feet. This one is already broken. The little girl mistook the snake for Talos's tail... Never mind, it's too troublesome to explain. I walked forward and picked up the writ from the front of the altar.
"To whoever finds this, I, Athirius Bolla, the last survivor of the Blades at the Temple of the Cloud Rider, took refuge in this ancient sanctuary. The Thalmor came for me, but they could not desecrate this holy place. I left here, an honorable death. If you deem it worthy, take up my blade and do what I did."
Helgi leaned over and finished reading with me, "Who is this guy? Is the Thalmor a bad guy?"
"The Thalmor are a race of elves. Those who attacked your tribe are the Thalmor's minions. They are the enemy of all of us: the Reachmen, the Bretons, the Nords, the Cyrodiil, the Redguards, and all of us."
Helgi nodded and picked up the blade from the statue. "Sir Knight, you should hold this blade and die gloriously like this man!"
Thank you so much, then... can I borrow your good wishes?
