Rebirth after the apocalypse: I create a new world with space!
Chapter 1497 I hope
Under the eternal night, the darkness still shrouded the world tightly, as if an endless abyss had swallowed up all the light and weighed heavily on everyone's hearts.
The sky was as dark as ink, with no stars or moonlight, only thick dark clouds rolling endlessly, like a dirge for the end of the world, silently telling the sadness of this ruined world.
The eternal night has been here for so long that people almost forget the existence of light.
However, people can get used to darkness but cannot truly accept it.
They still yearn for light, long for the sun to rise again, long for that faint, even fleeting dawn.
Inside the camp, the embers of the bonfire had not yet been completely extinguished. The flames danced in the ashes, illuminating several tired faces.
The members of the Fire Team went into the tents one by one to rest. Their sleepy bodies sank into the simple sleeping bags. Even with just a thin layer of cloth, it could slightly block out the chill from the ground, allowing them to briefly feel a hint of warmth.
But their sleep was still restless.
In the dream, there was still an endless battle - biting, roaring, fleeing, fighting...
They dreamed that they were in a sea of blood, with the howling of monsters and the screams of their companions filling their ears. They dreamed that their once close family members had turned into zombies, with cloudy and empty eyes, black rotten liquid flowing from the corners of their mouths, and they staggered and stretched out their long-rotten hands to them.
They knew it was just a nightmare, but even when they were conscious, they still couldn't break free. It was like being stuck in a quagmire. The more they struggled, the deeper they sank, until they woke up with their hearts pounding and cold sweat on their backs.
However, what is truly suffocating is when they open their eyes and discover that reality is more cruel than dreams - because this is not a nightmare, but the daily life they have to face.
Outside the tent, Potato and Gyro huddled together. Although they had their eyes closed, their ears twitched from time to time. They remained alert, sniffing the air and listening for any suspicious movements in the night.
Occasionally, a few zombie roars could be heard in the distance. Their voices were hoarse and broken, carrying an uncontrollable hunger and thirst. They blended into the dead silence and darkness, making people feel a chill in their hearts.
Time passed slowly in the endless darkness and the night was terrifyingly quiet. It was not until Li Luo opened his eyes that he realized that a new day had arrived.
But there is no morning glow or warm sunshine here.
Outside the tent, it was still thickly dark, and the cold air was mixed with the damp smell of mold and decay, which instantly sobered people up.
Lu Jingcheng was the first to leave the tent and looked up at the sky out of habit. It was pitch black and he could not see anything.
He frowned slightly, reached out and touched his tactical waist bag to check the status of supplies.
The team members woke up one after another. No one spoke. They checked their equipment and sorted out supplies. Their movements were skillful and orderly, as if it was an instinct ingrained in their bones.
Li Luo took out a bag of soft bread, tore open the package, gently broke off a piece and put it into his mouth. The light wheat aroma mixed with a slight sweetness melted on the tip of his tongue, bringing a long-lost warmth.
She opened another sausage and ate it with the bread. The salty and fragrant taste finally made her stomach feel a little satisfied.
She raised her hand, unscrewed a bottle of milk, tilted her head back and took a few sips. The silky milk fragrance relieved the dryness in her mouth and also made her feel a little more energized.
No one in the camp wasted time. Everyone took out their food and quickly finished breakfast.
Even though they were living in the end times, they were not short of supplies. They had bread, ham, milk, and even a few candies. In this desolate world, these were a rare luxury.
Shi Xinxin rubbed her shoulders that were sore from sleep and couldn't help but mutter in a low voice:
"I don't know when I can sleep peacefully..."
Chu Yuanqing put down the gun he was checking, walked behind her, and gently rubbed her stiff shoulders with just the right amount of force to relieve her fatigue.
"Just hold on a little longer, and everything will be fine once we get to City B." His voice was low and gentle, with a soothing tone.
Shi Xinxin was stunned for a moment, then smiled lightly, with a hint of helplessness on her lips:
"Hopefully."
She wasn't really complaining, but the exhaustion from the past few days made her unable to help but vent a few words. However, Chu Yuanqing's actions made her feel inexplicably warm in her heart, as if all the exhaustion had a reason to persevere.
