Chapter 21 Their own thoughts

As night falls, darkness shrouds the city. Except for the pubs that never seem to close, the hotels and clubs that are like stars at night, and the central area where the rich live, everything else is like a vast ocean submerged in the darkness, gradually returning to stillness and silence.

In the dark night sky, two bright white "Twin Moons" hang high on both sides of the sky, like twins separated by a distance.

The silvery glow slanted into the house from outside the window, illuminating a section of the floor under the window and also revealing the general outlines of some of the furnishings in the house.

"Creaky, creaky" sounds were heard, and the sound of stepping on the wooden floor of the hall was heard, and a figure walked out of the darkness woodenly.

Some silver light reflected on Ina's snow-white hair, showing a different kind of cold and lonely beauty. She was still wearing her morning clothes, even though the temperature at night had dropped to an unbearable level.

She seemed unaware of this.

"You haven't come back yet..."

Bi Tong looked around blankly, Ina felt a little lost and murmured absentmindedly.

She did not light any lamps, although the oil lamps hung around the house still had plenty of fuel, and there was a pile of firewood next to the fireplace.

Ina walked to the sofa and the coffee table. The darkness did not seem to be an obstacle for her. She lay on her side on the sofa without a layer of warm cloth covering her. She curled up like a wounded little animal.

Directly in front of the sofa, across the hardwood coffee table, was the fireplace in the hall, which still had gray embers that had burned out in the morning and had not yet been cleaned up.

…………

A yellow-orange flame suddenly illuminated the darkness-shrouded space of dozens of meters nearby.

As the bonfire was lit, the coldness around was instantly dissipated.

Rick sat on the ground next to the fire, carefully rolling and folding the remaining hemp ropes and bells in his hands, obviously having just finished arranging something.

The place where he and the campfire were was quite peculiar, a fan-shaped clearing in the dense and tangled jungle, but there was not a single bush or tree root there.

Rick did not show any nervousness about the strange situation and put back the organized items.

The cloth bag wrapped in dried meat and the water bag suddenly appeared in his hands.

It's as magical as a magician putting a bouquet of flowers in a magic cylinder hat and making doves flutter out.

"It's so cold. I should cook a bowl of meat soup, but there is no water nearby." Rick tore off a piece of dried meat, put it in his mouth, chewed it, and swallowed it with cold water, shouting.

Perhaps because he hadn't gone hunting or camping in the wild for a long time, he didn't bring much water. Even as a hunter with magical props to control space, the water he prepared was pitifully small.

Of course, Leng was just talking. With the physical fitness of a Silver-level person, even if he really jumped into a winter ice river and swam for a day, he would probably still be full of energy when he got up.

He couldn't help but recall the camping life outside the fortress.

And just in a trance, he saw several familiar figures sitting around the fire.

Those comrades who accompanied him in countless pursuit operations and broke through the encirclement and suppression campaigns.

The captain who had been dead for who knows how long had shouted to let the enemy see how powerful they were.

And there was a woman with simple clothes and a pretty face. She looked at Rick with a smile, as if waiting for her lover to talk to her.

Everything seemed real and unreal, and Rick could even hear their conversation in his ears.

Rick frowned slightly, his eyes drooped, and he just focused his gaze on the blazing flames, with no intention of getting involved in the conversation.

But when he looked up again, the person and the voice had disappeared.

But Rick knew "they" would come back. He hadn't had them for quite some time, and that wasn't unusual; they had been bothering him for ten years.

Like a nightmare that can't be dispelled.

They would visit themselves whenever loneliness and silence intertwined, which was why Rick rarely hunted alone for a long time.

He didn't want to face "them".

Fortunately, the situation this time was not serious. At least there were no corpses with missing limbs or open skulls showing bones coming to chat with him, and there were no curses or screams.

The latter two were enough to ruin his sleep quality that night.

…………

At the dawn, the darkness of the night faded away, and Rick stood on a high place.

Looking down at the giant beast lying on a group of crushed trees two hundred meters away.

When he climbed up the tree, he deliberately made the noise as small as possible so as not to wake up the giant beast.

This was not the first time he had been so close to the Morifeng Giant Ape. After using arrows for sniping, he had caught up with the target twice.

Unfortunately, as expected, they failed to successfully hunt down the giant beast, and even lost a considerable number of precious scrolls.

Whenever the balance of battle tilted, this behemoth would flee without hesitation, relying on magic cover like the most cowardly wild animal.

Then, the giant beast that was not seriously injured would appear in front of him in its prime state, without any injury, like a real monster.

This was something he had never expected.

The magic items and magic weapons that Shu Xi gave him could not even keep up with the recovery of his magic power and could not withstand further consumption.

Rick must end this vicious cycle before his magic power runs out.

After confirming the items he was carrying, Rick tore open the magic scrolls one by one and replaced them with a spear with flame-shaped runes.

Holding the weapon in his hand backwards, a huge amount of war energy was poured into it, which was enough to make more than a dozen people breathless. As Rick pulled it back, it was like a flammable match.

Using air as a medium, friction ignites and turns into a blazing pillar of fire.

Immediately, the ground shook, and the giant beast, which was supposed to be sleeping soundly, suddenly woke up. Without any hesitation, its single eye stared at the culprit who was emitting terrifying energy.

The sudden change did not change Rick's expression. This was within his expectations. It would be better to say that the performance of the giant beast at this moment was exactly what he wanted.

The perception ability of a seventh-level monster is almost the same as that of a professional of the same level, and it is unable to know the details of things more than a hundred meters away.

That's why Rick chose this position, just for a few brief, redundant seconds.

"Primary Dragon Strengthening Technique"

Storm Protection

"Advanced Shield"

“Quick thinking”

"Advanced Physical Enhancement"

"Swift Eyes"

Dazzling light and magic arrays intertwined, covered, and washed over his body. A terrifying aura gushed out from his body, which was only small compared to the giant beast.

His body was becoming blurry, like an illusion caused by flames distorting the air.

At the same time, the flaming spear was handed out, like the dazzling meteor that streaked across the sky in the legend, piercing the face of the giant beast!

The whistling sound that broke through the wind pierced deeply into the eardrums of any hearing creature present. It was more harsh than any kind of roar.

"Boom!" The loud explosion spread across half of the mountain valley.

"Missed?" This was Rick's first reaction.

"Space jump?!" This was the first thought that flashed through Rick's mind.

Then, in its place, the entire birch tree was shrouded in shadow.
