Chapter 113: Traveling Together
Yak stopped at a one-story brick house.
I knocked on the wooden door with my fingers. There was a hole on the door, which was obviously used by people inside the house to check on visitors.
After a while, Ina sensed someone approaching the door.
The feedback from spiritual perception should be that of a female.
"Who are you looking for? We didn't do anything."
The female voice sounded alert at first, then panicked.
She had no doubt spotted the badges they wore and the swords they wore at their waists.
"No, you misunderstood. I have no other intentions. I just want to express my gratitude and give some return for what I did back then."
Yak quickly waved his hands, signaling the other party not to be nervous, and quickly explained his purpose.
Ina, who was indifferent on the side, discovered a problem with some amusement.
This stubborn guy doesn't even seem to know the family's surname...
Normally speaking, stating your surname and purpose is the basis for gaining trust. Ina silently complained.
"Back then? Thanks? No... no, we don't know you. Please leave. We don't need any thanks."
The woman responded timidly, with no intention of opening the door.
Jack was at a loss for a moment. There were no windows in the house, so he couldn't get anything in.
"Perhaps you could tell her what happened and let her recall it in as much detail as possible."
Ina suggested.
Otherwise, she estimated that Yake would have to put down his things and leave.
This is quite dangerous for this family.
Since it is a reward, it should be something valuable, such as coins or valuables.
Even if they were wrapped up, there was no guarantee that someone would come forward to snatch them when they walked away.
Ina could already feel the gazes coming from all directions.
It will be much more natural to talk and give things while standing.
It is rare for patrol soldiers to enter the slums to investigate cases and obtain evidence, but it is not impossible.
"Five years ago, I was still a beggar child, in front of the shack not far ahead, remember, ma'am?"
"You and your husband gave the children two one-pound loaves of bread."
Yak briefly explained his past identity and how he got to know the other party.
Although he was not very good at speaking, he was somewhat concise.
The content is more like a randomly made-up story than facts.
A child begging in the slums became a serving soldier after a few years of absence.
And he returned home in glory, wanting to repay those who had helped him? This is really hard to believe.
But the lady still chose to open the door.
Because there is no need for any patrol soldier to waste time talking to a pauper, as they often have the necessary investigation permits.
If civilians do not cooperate, they have the right to force entry into the house.
The image of the hostess basically matches what Ina imagined.
It was not good-looking. Her cheeks were relatively thin due to malnutrition, and her eyes revealed deep fatigue.
Her hair was simply tied up with cloth, as if she had just been working. Her clothes were old but thick and warm.
It is also less than ordinary civilian patches.
In Ina's eyes, her movements were quite powerful and she was obviously not one of those people who could not afford to eat.
No wonder he has the energy to be kind to others.
Ina suddenly understood.
Yak took out a small cloth bag from the inside of his clothes and quickly stuffed it into the hostess's hand.
From Ina's perspective, the cloth bag became even drier after being squeezed.
It looked like only a few coins had been inserted.
The hostess rubbed the cloth bag subconsciously.
Then he looked at Jack's face with half surprise and half fear, as if he wanted to confirm from his expression whether the other party was serious.
The sizes and patterns of the coins in the kingdom are all different. The silver coin is the largest in weight and size, nearly 12 grams, followed by the gros, and the small coins and gold coins are similar.
However, both sides of the gold coin have complex patterns symbolizing the royal family and King Fulent I, and the outer circle has unique "edge teeth" like the silver coin.
Prevents cutting and counterfeiting, and is extremely easy to identify.
Ordinary citizens rarely care about these things, but the poor are very sensitive to them.
The thin fabric cannot block the uneven pattern, and the touch is transmitted to the fingertips.
The half-opened tie revealed a hint of golden light.
This shows the value of the coins stored inside, which confirms the hostess's guess.
There were three gold coins in the bag.
This is equivalent to one and a half years’ income for a poor family like hers.
"Please don't say no, ma'am. It is the kindness of your family that has saved the lives of several children."
"This is the reward you deserve."
"Goddess above, may you have good health in the coming year."
Happiness has nothing to do with the life of the poor; survival in the future is the best blessing.
After saying this, Yak nodded and didn't stay any longer.
Like an ordinary soldier who completed the case investigation.
Ina followed as usual until they were some distance away and confirmed that the hostess was safe and sound and closed the door, then she suggested:
"Let's go find a place to eat something?"
She saw the look on Yake's face, as if a heavy burden had been lifted off his shoulders, and guessed that there was nothing else he needed to complete quickly.
"Uh, um..."
Yake didn't refuse.
Although Ina's invitation was abrupt, he did not have breakfast due to his hasty farewell.
Maybe the residents of the street live a decent life.
There is a restaurant at the end of the street, at the intersection where it connects to other streets in the neighborhood.
This saves two people the effort of searching, or you can choose a mobile vendor.
I walked in indifferently and found the restaurant to be quite simple.
Unlike similar shops in the East District and core area which are exquisite, or simple and tidy.
There was no decoration at all, and the so-called windows were just two large square holes in the wall.
There is no wooden frame glass, but wooden boards supported by wooden sticks.
In order to let in light from inside, the doors are opened directly, which does not provide any heating or heat preservation effect.
Of course, even if it was closed, two holes that were larger than a fireplace could easily drain away the hard-earned warmth.
But at least there's a place to sit.
Hired a maid to help.
There were not many people in the restaurant. As soon as Yake and Ina found a seat and sat down, the waiter came to them and handed them the menu.
The writing is handwritten, not printed, and the words are legible, though not particularly pleasing to the eye.
But it was enough to surprise Ina.
The poor are usually illiterate.
They have lacked access to knowledge since childhood.
Whether it is going to a private school like MACS, a church school set up by the church, or home education and self-study by purchasing old books.
To them, it's all fantasy.
