Chapter 9 Wind Slime and the Tavern

Ignoring Barta who was doubting her eyes behind her, Wendy held Samuel in her arms and found a wooden table in the noisy crowd. She put Samuel on it and sat on a wooden chair beside it.

Samuel looked around curiously.

…and then slowly moved my eyes back.

Why are these people staring at him covetously?

"Some people really like slime dishes, and the bartender at the Cat's Tail Tavern in Mondstadt has just launched a new series of drinks called 'Slime Specials', which have a good reputation." Wendy explained with a smile, supporting her cheek with her hand. "I heard that drinks made from slimes with different elemental attributes also taste different. For example, fire slimes are warm, while grass slimes are refreshing."

"They probably heard the wind. Maybe they are now curious about what you, the wind slime, smell like."

As he said this, he poked Samuel as if he was teasing him.

Slime cuisine?!

This is too scary!

It scared me.

Samuel saw that the looks around him were becoming increasingly suspicious, so he dragged his pudding-like body two steps and quickly crawled into Wendy's arms.

Wendy pinched her nose and smiled softly, then patted him soothingly and said, "Don't worry, I'm here."

After a while, Bartada came with a basin and a cup.

"Your dandelion wine." He placed the cup in front of Wendy, looked at the wind slime in Wendy's arms and pondered for a while before saying, "And...your apple wine."

Bartada placed the apple cider on the other side of the table and left.

When Samuel saw Appleseed coming, he looked at Wendy with wide eyes.

"So, how do I drink?" he asked in a soul-searching question.

"That's easy." Wendy lifted Samuel up.

Samuel suddenly felt something was wrong.

"Lift you up first—"

"Wait, what are you doing?!"

"Move above the stuffed apples—"

"Wait, don't—"

"Let go of your hand again--" Wendy let go, and with a "puff" sound, under the confused looks of people around him, he threw a lump of slime into the basin full of apple wine.

The scene just now seemed like the claw machine that Samuel had played in his previous life, but the doll became himself, the claw became Wendy's hand, and the exit became a pot of apple wine.

Looking at the wind slime gradually sinking in the basin, Wendy laughed:

“It’s done!”

The soul-searching question posed by a certain wind slime was thus deciphered.

Samuel: "@...*%&¥!"

Wendy said "Hey", picked up the glass of dandelion wine, and clinked it against the basin filled with apple wine and Samuel.

With a smile on his face, he shouted:

"Cheers to our wonderful encounter!"

……

Wendy's series of incredible actions just now immediately attracted the attention of a large number of drinkers around.

"Oh! My Lord Barbatos! Look at that man, what is he doing?"

"My dear friend, you can tell at a glance that you haven't read the new newspapers that have arrived in Mondstadt, right?"

"Oh sorry, I've been too busy lately and indeed didn't look at it. What happened?"

"Hey man, you have to pay attention to the new trend. I heard...it's popular in the city to use slime to make alcohol."

"Is that so? Then he...is from the city?"

"Maybe... He looks like a bard. Oh! I bet he is from Mondstadt!"

"…If I remember correctly, that wind slime was alive, right? Is it popular in Mondstadt to make wine with living slimes?"

When the drinkers heard the last sentence, they were all stunned for a second, and then they continued excitedly:

"Oh my Lord Barbatos! This is cruel!"

"Now that you put it that way, I can't tell whether he's 'drinking with slime' or 'drinking slime and wine'..."

"Oh my god, am I the only one who noticed that the mini slime is a little off?"

"Who knows, maybe that wind slime has just been born? Or maybe it's just a baby slime."

"Oh my Lord Barbatos! That sounds even more cruel!"

"..."

The fine wine in their hands could not intoxicate the chatter of the other guests around them. They looked at Wendy curiously and discussed without restraint. At the same time, someone ran to Wendy's table to see what was happening to the slime in the wine basin.

At this moment, the slime popped out of the wine basin with a "pop".

The drinker who came over to watch secretly was startled, and the crowd watching burst into laughter.

The instigator of this series of discussions listened to them and chuckled.

After a while, he looked at the empty glass and shouted:

"Bartada, refill!"

Samuel, who was still conscious but a little tipsy, heard this and gurgled in his wine bowl:

"Lord Barbatos?"

"What's wrong, little slime?" Wendy, who hadn't finished drinking yet, smacked her lips. "How does it feel? Is it delicious?"

"I can definitely smell a little bit of the flavor... but what's even bigger is that I feel like I'm about to be soaked in the flavor." The wind slime in the basin shuddered and answered truthfully, "Let's not talk about that. It's almost night, isn't it? Do you want a refill?"

"You don't understand this." Wendy poked Samuel in the bowl, then he raised his glass and asked the waiter to pour the wine, "Hangover, but the romance of the bard~"

"Then... where are we going after drinking?" Samuel asked carefully.

"I told you where else you can go when you're hungover?" Wendy drank the full glass of wine in one gulp and raised her hand again, "Bartada, don't go! Refill--"

Barta, who had just walked back to the counter, said: "..."

"Oh, right." Wendy glanced at Samuel's basin.

Seeing that the apple wine inside was already quite low, he shouted again, "Give him a refill, too. No, a refill!"

Samuel, who had just absorbed half a basin of water, said: "..."

Barta who had already walked over: "..."

……

I don’t know how many cups Wendy finished, but by the time Samuel had “absorbed” the entire pot of apple cider, he was already lying on the table.

Glancing at the pub, the lively crowd had long since sparsely populated, leaving only a few drunks like Wendy.

Samuel vaguely heard one of the drunks shouting in a mad voice:

"...Jack, hiccup, don't worry! As for the baby's diaper, I, I will definitely find a way...hiccup!"

Uncle, you have money to drink but not money to buy diapers...

Jack seems to be a male name, right?

Samuel quickly shook his body to stop himself from imagining those melodramatic plots.

Wendy, who was lying on the table, still held the wine glass in her hand. Her face was flushed as she said incoherently, "...hiccups, haha, good wine, good wine..."

Samuel couldn't help but burp as well.

Then a bubble exploded from the top of the "Brewed Rice Slime"'s head with a "pop".

He climbed out of the dried-up wine basin in a daze, and then collapsed on the table like a pancake.

Samuel felt like he had no control over his body.

I feel dizzy... I feel heavy...

He pushed Wendy weakly.

"Wendy, it's time to find a hotel..."

"Hotel...?" Wendy squinted her confused eyes and carefully identified the spherical unidentified creature in front of her, "Ah, Samuel..."

"It's time to find a hotel..." Wendy stood up, held Samuel in her arms, and staggered towards the door of the tavern.

"No... I've drunk too much... I feel dizzy..." After Wendy pushed open the door of the pub, she leaned weakly against the wall.

He covered his dizzy head and fell at the door of the tavern.

Samuel was pinned beneath him, held tightly in his arms.

The Wind Slime felt sleepy and wanted to fall asleep too.

I seemed to see two figures in a daze...

They seem to be talking about something...

"...We can't just watch him fall here, isn't that a bit too unkind?"

"Then carry it on your back. You hold the bag."

Samuel felt as if the pressure on him had been removed.

"Eh? There's another slime here."

"It might be the food raised by the street singer. Hehe, maybe he knew we were leaving and gave it to us!"

"Let's not move yet and take him with us."

"Okay... eh? Weird... why does this little water slime smell like apple wine?"
