Getting Rich from Legend of Zhen Huan
Chapter 344 Waiting for Replacement (3)
In February of the first year of Yongzheng's reign (1723), Yongzheng received an imperial decree from his mother, Empress Dowager Renshou, stating that "the legitimate wife, Ulanara, should be made empress."
On May 1723, the first year of the Yongzheng reign (8), the Queen's birthday, according to custom, high-ranking officials from all over the country, including governors, governors-general and generals, were sent to other places to present congratulatory letters to the Queen on her birthday and festival. For example, Huang Bing, the governor of Shandong, once congratulated the Queen. [14-]
In August of the first year of the Yongzheng reign (1723), Emperor Yongzheng summoned all the kings and Manchu and Han ministers to the Qianqing Palace and said to them, "The matter of Emperor Kangxi's succession should have been decided long ago. On November 15 last year, the great plan was decided in a hurry. People at home and abroad were delighted and shared the blessing of security." Yongzheng sealed the edict with Kangxi's will, breaking the Qing ancestral convention of appointing a crown prince very early in the first year of the reign, and not appointing a crown prince. []
On the 16th day of the 17th month of the first year of the Yongzheng reign, Yongzheng ordered Yunqi, Baotai, Yunyou, and Aixinjueluo Manduhu to arrange for Hongxi and all his wives, concubines, sons, and younger brothers to move to Zhenggejiazhuang, about miles outside the capital, and to allocate rooms to Hongxi and his family. Yongzheng also ordered people to treat Hongxi with courtesy, and ordered thousands of soldiers, servants, and slaves to protect Hongxi's Zhenggejiazhuang. Hongxi's father, Yunreng, was still imprisoned in Xian'an Palace in the imperial city because of his guilt. Yongzheng was very concerned about Hongxi, and Hongxi often called Yongzheng, who was actually his uncle, "Imperial Father" in his memorials, and had a good relationship with Hongxi.
In addition, Hongxi was allowed to go to Beijing once a month to participate in court meetings, archery, and temple sacrifices.
On November 1723, the first year of the Yongzheng reign (5), which was the anniversary of Kangxi's death, Emperor Yongzheng ordered his fourth son, Hongli, born to Concubine Xi, to be offered sacrifices at Jingling Mausoleum. []
In December of the first year of Yongzheng's reign (1723), the empress had not completed the three-year mourning period for the emperor's biological parents, so no grand celebration ceremony was held [18-20]. During the ceremony to establish the empress, officials were sent to offer sacrifices to the tombs of emperors of all dynasties, Yuezhen, Haidu and Changbai Mountain to announce the establishment of the empress. After the empress was enthroned, the imperial edict was issued to reward silk cloth. The list included the ranks of the nobles: Prince (21 silk cloth, the largest number of rewards), Duke, Beile, Beizi, Crown Prince, Consort, Princess, Princess, County Princess, County Lady, Princess, Prince, Prince, nobles, ministers and officials from generals down to officials, etc. were rewarded with half a year's salary. In addition, relief was provided to old women over 22 years old across the country. (On the above reward list: only concubines and princes were not included) [-]
Afterwards, the empress's deceased father Fei Yanggu was posthumously conferred the title of First-Class Cheng'en Duke, officials were sent to offer sacrifices and repair his tomb, his descendants were prepared to inherit the title of First-Class Marquis, and her deceased biological mother was posthumously conferred the title of (Aisin-Gioro) Duologege.
(The custom of adopting children was common in the imperial palace of the Qing Dynasty)
In August of the second year of the Yongzheng reign (1724), Emperor Yongzheng summoned all the princes and members of the royal family and issued an edict: "Since the year before, we have respectfully invited our father to our home, the Old Summer Palace, and all of you brothers have gathered here. ... When the second prince, Yinreng, was the crown prince, he was the heir apparent. Before Yinreng committed any crime, I only fulfilled my duties as a younger brother and a subject, and was respectful and cautious in everything I did. Because our father has shown great favor and love for me (referring to Emperor Yongzheng) ... our father knows my character and conduct very well, and therefore entrusted me with the throne because I am kind-hearted, have no partisanship, and can understand the great principles, and therefore can protect you all." [5]
In December of the second year of Yongzheng's reign (1724), Emperor Yongzheng specially granted Hongxi's biological mother, Li Jia, the title of Yunreng's concubine.
In October of the third year of Yongzheng's reign (1725), after a three-year mourning period, Emperor Yongzheng held a celebration ceremony to enthrone Ulanara as empress. [21] Emperor Yongzheng drove to the Hall of Supreme Harmony. The kings, Manchu and Han officials all presented letters of congratulations and paid their respects. Emperor Yongzheng drove to the Palace of Heavenly Purity. The empress led the concubines to pay their respects before Emperor Yongzheng. After returning to the empress's palace, the concubines led the princesses, wives and ladies to celebrate in front of the empress. [23]
On May 1726, 5, the third anniversary of the death of the Empress Dowager Renshou, Yongzheng's mother, Emperor Yongzheng wanted to go to the tomb to pay respects in person. However, the ministers said that the emperor was afraid of the heat and had been very tired from working for a long time. It was not appropriate to travel five or six hundred miles in the heat. In addition, the second wheat harvest was in season and the farmers would have to wait for them along the way, which would inevitably delay the farming work. They all pleaded with the emperor to stop going to the tomb in person. Therefore, Yongzheng reluctantly agreed and ordered his fourth son, Hongli, to go on his behalf. []
The Yongzheng Emperor stopped holding banquets and sent officials to offer sacrifices to the gods only at the Qing Dynasty's ancestral mausoleums. The Yongzheng Emperor also ordered to stop holding banquets and ceremonies on the Empress' birthday, which was on May 24. [1726] After a three-year mourning period, on October 25, the fourth year of the Yongzheng Emperor's reign (26), the kings, civil officials and military officials jointly requested to celebrate the Yongzheng Emperor's birthday on October . The Yongzheng Emperor issued an edict: "The Emperor's father, Emperor Kangxi, celebrated his th and th birthdays without holding ceremonies every year. Since I ascended the throne, I have followed the Emperor's example in everything. Therefore, when the Ministry of Rites requested to celebrate my birthday this year, I issued an edict to stop it. It is because "I have followed the Emperor's example in everything I can do for the Emperor's years of doing things." (The Emperor and Empress followed the example of the previous dynasty and stopped holding banquets and ceremonies on New Year's Day. One reason for this was that the smallpox epidemic was rampant in the capital.) [-]
On April 1728, the sixth year of the Yongzheng reign (27), the Empress caught a cold. The Emperor ordered the doctor Wu Qian to prescribe medicine for the Empress. However, after a few days, the Empress' condition did not improve. The Emperor ordered Wu Qian to be questioned. The Ministry of Justice originally wanted to sentence Wu Qian to death, but later changed the sentence to allow Wu Qian to treat prisoners in prison forever. []
In the seventh year of Yongzheng's reign (1729), the Empress recovered slightly from her illness, and Emperor Yongzheng bestowed upon the deity Chen Jinggu the title of Celestial Saint Mother (Empress Dowager) Yuanjun.[28]
In the eighth or fourth year of the Yongzheng reign (1730), Emperor Yongzheng wrote in red inscriptions to Ortai about the princes, saying: "My concern for you is greater than that for my stubborn princes" and "My princes are all mediocre, and my brothers and nephews also lack outstanding talents." [29]
On September 1731, the 30th year of the Yongzheng reign (31 AD), the Empress was seriously ill and temporarily stayed in Changchun Garden. Emperor Yongzheng also went to Changchun Garden to visit the Empress. In order to take care of the sick Empress, he returned to the palace after a certain time. However, the Empress died at the age of 32. [33-34] Emperor Yongzheng was deeply saddened and ordered the suspension of court for five days and ordered all the kings, civil and military officials, princesses, princesses, and ladies in the capital to gather in Changchun Garden to mourn and observe mourning for 35 days. At that time, the ministers reported that the Forbidden City was still under construction, so they made an exception and allowed the coffin to be enshrined in the main hall of Changchun Garden (the Hall of Nine Classics and Three Affairs) for a grand funeral. [-] During the funeral, Emperor Yongzheng also followed the practice of the previous emperor (Kangxi) Shengzu Ren Emperor. Because the army was outside, the governors and generals outside were exempted from gathering to mourn. [-]
On September 36, Emperor Yongzheng wanted to personally attend the empress's coffin, but was strongly opposed by the Minister of Rites. The Minister of Rites privately suggested to Emperor Yongzheng: "Make an exception and follow the funeral rites of the late empress according to the Ming Dynasty. The emperor does not need to personally attend the funeral. Instead, the princes (the fourth prince Hongli or the fifth prince Hongzhou) will perform the ceremony of offering sacrifices every morning and evening. If the funeral period comes, send officials to offer sacrifices as usual. Please stop going in person." Therefore, Emperor Yongzheng reluctantly agreed to the request and stopped going. [37-]
