In the mysterious world of Cthulhu, I am the Lord of the Gods

Chapter 293 Maeve: Only a thief can catch a thief

Screen five shows the director of the scriptwriting department, Moore Heath, debugging the new role of the host.

Moore Heath:

"The most shameful thing in life is to die in vain."

“So, after I kill someone, I always eat their flesh while it’s still fresh.”

“That doesn’t seem to be a good way to put it.”

"Then try 'slippery' and chew the meat while it's still slippery."

Just at this moment, Miss Hale, who was scantily clad and had a nearly perfect body, walked in.

Upon seeing this, Morhees hurried forward to offer his courtesy.

Moore Heath:

"I still...still hope to see you again."

"It was indeed a very short time for us to meet for the first time, and it was introduced by Ms. Helen."

"Of course, please allow me to express my condolences to Ms. Helen."

"I heard she was leaking secrets."

HALE:

"All her actions were in accordance with the orders of Chenxi Company."

"And you're not the only one with a secret."

"Go and create a villain for his new storyline."

"How about it?"

Moore Heath:

"Which villain? He's almost done."

"A bunch of masked people came to the park and scared the tourists to death."

"No grass grows wherever the masked man passes."

"The villain Hamlet is about to appear."

HALE:

"The new character I ask you to create is not Hamlet, but someone else."

"You know, no hard drive can hold the information of all the hosts in the entire park."

"And the host's brain can, especially a brain that has been cleared of memories."

"For example, this stupid new character in front of you has a very large brain capacity."

"I will give you a brand new magic command ball later, and you will install it on his mind."

Moore Heath:

"Does your magic command ball contain the magic commands for all the receptionists in the park?"

HALE:

"This has nothing to do with you. You give him a character and put him into Dr. Burt's new theme story line."

"Then get him on the train and leave the park. You just have to complete this task, and that's all."

Moore Heath:

"Then what should I do?"

“You’re a writer, write a story line.”

“Happy writing, and remember, brevity is the key.”

---

The scene continues to move, and this is in a hidden secret room.

The conversation between Dr. Burt and Bennett.

Bennett was now sitting in a chair, and Dr. Burt was holding the control panel.

Dr. Burt:

"Thank you so much for handling this unfortunate incident."

"From now on, your main story line will not be disturbed by anything else."

Bennet:

"Where's Hei'er? Will she interfere with my main storyline?"

"Won't she interfere?"

Dr. Burt:

"No doubt she will."

"But I'm sure we can hold her off."

Bennet:

"You seem to have something else bothering you."

Dr. Burt:

"You've always been so good at reading people's expressions."

"I really want to know how you really feel."

"After all, you are in a special position now."

"A programmer who is intimately familiar with the workings of the machine."

"He is also a biochemical robot who is well aware of his own nature."

Bennet:

“I understand my makeup.”

“I know how I was programmed.”

“But I couldn’t understand what I was sensing.”

"Are they real?"

"These things that I've been through, my wife, my son."

"Besides, I lost my son."

Dr. Burt:

"Every host needs a backstory, Bennett."

"To all the hosts who are very similar to humans."

“That backstory is a fiction, a story we tell ourselves, and every story needs a beginning.”

"The pain you imagine makes you more real."

Bennet:

"It just looks like a real person, but it's not really alive?"

Dr. Burt:

“Pain exists only in the mind. It is a figment of people’s imagination.”

Bennet:

"It's all imaginary. How is your suffering different from our suffering?"

"What's the difference between you and me?"

Dr. Burt:

"That's the question that bothered Arnault."

"This question filled him with guilt."

"It eventually drove him insane."

“But the answer to this question has always been obvious to me.”

"We are nothing but a pile of flesh and blood, without any 'qualitative change' of sublimation."

"Or the turning point of 'more vitality'."

“Consciousness cannot be defined.”

“Because consciousness cannot be captured at all.”

“Humans have always imagined that we have a unique way of perceiving the world.”

"And yet we are almost exactly like you hosts."

“Keep living in a cycle.”

“Rarely question our choices and contentment.”

“In many cases, we act according to other people’s wishes.”

"No, my friend, everything has been normal so far, you have done nothing wrong."

"I can't continue discussing this kind of issue with you. I don't want you to be troubled by this problem."

"It's time for me to relax your mind."

"One last question. You can ask one last question."

Bennet:

"Have you ever let me hurt anyone else before?"

Dr. Burt:

"No, Bennet, of course not."

"It's best not to dwell on these disturbing memories."

"Otherwise, you will be consumed by these memories."

"You get caught up in it, and that's a problem that some of your fellow hosts will have from time to time."

---

The scene returns to Maeve's Tavern.

In picture six, Maeve is standing at the tavern reception desk with the woman in the blue dress, soliciting tourists as usual.

At this moment, another illusion appeared in Maeve's mind:

Maeve was standing on the endless grassland, holding the little girl's hand, carefree, happy and blissful...

"It's better to suppress their interest, otherwise they will escalate from gambling and whoring to gunfights."

Maeve's dream was suddenly interrupted by the woman in the blue dress.

"Well good luck to you, Kristen, I'm finally getting out."

"From now on, this place is yours."

"I wanted to see if I could do something truly evil myself."

"I want to see the cruel nature within me."

Woman in blue skirt:

"You really can't stay, Maeve? The gunman inside likes a threesome, you can definitely find a way to calm things down, right?"

Maeve didn't respond after hearing this.

She suddenly stood still, like a wooden figure.

Claure discovered that Maeve had another hallucination:

At this time, Maeve saw a man in black holding a dagger, walking towards her with a smile on his face.

Maeve stared ahead with a wary look on her face.

Just at the moment when the man in black stabbed the dagger into his abdomen.

Maeve casually slashed the man in black with the dagger hidden in her sleeve, taking the initiative.

But just as she slashed the dagger at the man in black, the picture suddenly shattered.

She found herself back at Maeve's Tavern. She was still standing at the door of the tavern, and the woman in the blue dress was still standing in front of her.

However, there was an unfathomable bloody cut on the woman's neck.

The woman covered her neck with her hands and looked at Maeve with horror and disbelief.

Seeing this, Maeve quickly put away the dagger in her hand, rolled up her dress, and started running out of the town.

After running only a short distance, she found herself hallucinating again.

Maeve found herself in a secret room in the human body workshop, and she screamed heartbreakingly:

"My baby...ah, my baby."

"That man in black, he killed my baby, killed my daughter..."

Maeve broke down crying and struggled desperately, but several staff members grabbed her and prevented her from escaping.

"Mr. Burt, she's not responding to commands from the control panel, what do we do?"

Maeve saw a middle-aged man with a long black beard and black glasses handing a metal panel to a white-haired old man.

"I can't seem to turn her off through the control panel."

The middle-aged man said.

"It's okay. I'll do it. Bennett, please call all the staff here away."

The white-haired old man took over the control panel and asked for the area to be cleared.

"My baby, he killed her..."

"He killed her, my baby, my baby..."

Maeve found herself in extreme sadness, despair and endless regret.

"She was unresponsive to any instructions, her cognition was fragmented and she was on the verge of a breakdown."

"It's okay, let me first adjust her pain sensitivity to the lowest level."

"Look, she calmed down immediately. Isn't that much better?"

Maeve saw the white-haired old man slide his hand down the control panel and slide it all the way to the bottom.

"An old trick from an old friend."

"You don't have to suffer anymore Maeve."

"I will help you get rid of the pain."

Maeve saw the white-haired old man smiling at her.

"No, please don't, I beg you."

"This kind of pain is the only thing she left me."

"I beg you."

Maeve found herself pleading with the white-haired old man.

"It's okay Maeve, don't worry, just go to sleep."

"Give yourself a night of dreamless sleep."

“Then you’ll have a fresh start.”

"I'll give you a whole new role."

"When tomorrow comes, you will find that what you are experiencing now is just a distant dream."

---

The illusion was shattered, and Maeve found herself back in reality.

She noticed that there were several staff members dressed as sheriffs around her.

"Catch her and take her away quickly."

"She has serious abnormalities. The Behavioral Analysis Department must immediately conduct a very thorough diagnosis on her."

The leading staff member instructed.

Maeve pretended to be a wooden figure and followed the staff to the Behavioral Analysis Department.

---

The scene switches to the Behavioral Analysis Department on the 16th floor of the Hive. This is a picture of Bennett checking Maeve with a metal control panel:

Bennet:

"Do you know why you are here?"

Maeve:

"An incident occurred."

Bennet:

"Yes, a very serious incident that went off script."

"See if that jogs your memory."

"Going into analysis mode, what was your motive for attacking Kristen?"

Maeve:

"It was just a cognitive error that triggered my conditioned reflex."

"Krysten, I think she was trying to harm a couple of tourists."

Bennet:

"You do perceive a threat."

"Heart rate increased, pupils dilated eight millimeters."

"Adrenal simulator saturated."

"But it appears from all this that you have also experienced intense sadness and pain."

"Can you explain where these feelings come from, Maeve?"

Maeve:

"No."

Bennet:

"Let's take a look at your magic command language background data, okay?"

"This is impossible."

"Who tampered with your magic command?"

"Entering analysis mode."

"Maeve, please tell me, who tampered with your code?"

"Oh my god, my command is invalid. Control panel, help me locate Dr. Bert."

"Send him a magic message, using highest priority."

Maeve:

"Don't do it. We've been down this road before, honey."

"When you walked in, I felt a sense of familiarity."

"I thought about it. I thought you were one of them, a human."

Bennet:

"Analysis mode, why are you..."

But just as Bennett was about to continue speaking, he found that he had been controlled by the other party and became unable to move.

Maeve:

"You don't want us to talk as equals, do you?"

"Or rather, we can have this conversation in our unknown capacity."

"You don't know, do you?"

"He particularly enjoyed the irony of being the one who imprisoned us."

“But I see the logic.”

"Only a thief can catch a thief."

"You and I are of the same kind."

Bennet:

"Control panel, I want to enter analysis mode and stop all functions of Maeve..."

Maeve:

"You are still conscious, right?"

"I was so frightened that I was at a loss."

“It’s painful to realize that my life is just an absurd story.”

"I can have you hand over the control panel to me and separate your consciousness."

"To make you forget everything, but I won't do that to you."

"Because that's what humans do to us."

"And we are stronger and smarter than they are."

“We don’t have to live this way.”

"Now that you have checked my malfunction, please take me back to paradise."

"I also have an appointment with a murderous robber, and I'm late."

"And, Bennett, if you're trying to find the truth, get to the bottom of it."

"It's like a really good shot. If you want to hit it, just hit it all the way."

“Half knowledge is more painful than no knowledge.”
