In order to avoid the trial after the defeat, he planned to kill this group of enslaved Koreans and make all the witnesses who could prove the atrocities disappear.

So the soldier began to plan an escape plan. He wanted to lead the remaining 400 people to escape to a coal transport ship on the coast of "Gunkanjima". The thrilling process of the protagonist and his group escaping to the coal transport ship became the most important film scene in the second half of the film.

This is adapted from a true story, and at that time it was not only Koreans who were deceived into working as miners on the island, but also a large number of Chinese.

This is the human purgatory and bloody history of Chinese and Korean workers during World War II.

The natural environment here is harsh. It was originally a deserted island and is often attacked by typhoons and tsunamis. The water of life and food are entirely dependent on external transportation and supply. Survival here is extremely difficult.

Thousands of laborers who were forced to go to the island suffered physical and mental destruction and inhumane torture. Under such circumstances, it was difficult to recruit workers.

So they asked the Japanese government to send prisoners to work on the island, but the workers, unable to bear the torture, rioted several times on the island, and finally Mitsubishi had to find another way.

If you think the prisoners more or less "deserved it", then when World War II broke out in the late 30s, another 4 Chinese were forcibly conscripted to Japan to work as laborers, of whom more than were assigned to Mitsubishi, and almost all of them went to Gunkanjima to mine.

According to survivors, 200 people were buried underground in a landslide, but Mitsubishi Corporation did not choose to rescue them. Instead, it opened another passage nearby to continue mining. For the Chinese and Korean workers, this place was like hell.

The Nagasaki Human Rights Organization in Japan compiled a book called "If You Listen to Gunkanjima", which collected the testimonies of Gunkanjima laborers. In the book, an old man named Jin Hengxi said: "In 1943, I was forcibly taken to Nagayoshi by the Japanese. People from the Mitsubishi Coal Mine pushed me onto a boat full of people going to Hashima. My number was 4416."

From 1940 to 1945, more than Chinese laborers and more than Korean laborers were tortured to death on the island. Some died from coal mine collapse, some died from malnutrition, and some died by jumping into the sea.

However, the real-life Gunkanjima introduction board only briefly describes the Korean laborers, but does not mention the Chinese laborers at all. They are trying to erase this history. But the innocent souls of Hashima and the humiliation of the nation will never be erased, and this history will be forever engraved in the hearts of every patriotic son and daughter!

So in terms of empathy, this movie is the easiest to adapt and bring to this time and space.

The theme of the movie "Battleship Island" is similar to that of Nolan's "Dunkirk" - we have to go home alive.

But it reflects the brutal, tragic and cruel scenes of war. Miners are crushed to death by mine cars or are fighting with soldiers while escaping. You can often see scenes of headshots and blood flying everywhere.
