Team villains except me

Chapter 533: 1 Inheritance

On the magic circle back to Abosg, the atmosphere was depressing.

Lanier's subsequent affairs still need to be sorted out. The news of Mattia's death was suppressed after a brief spread due to the panic it caused. At this point in time, there are only all the members of "Send You Home" and Shanna on the magic circle.

Sana kept on talking, but the only people who responded to her were the impatient Ellit and Hught.

Yalinxiu fiddled with her fingers, which had grown flexible and able to separate. She knew she was becoming more and more like an ordinary being, similar to any other species. She began to understand many kinds of emotions, not the emotions she had learned from her parents, but her own complex emotions.

When Lilith died, she didn't understand what leaving meant. She thought they would eventually meet again, and even if they had to wait, as long as they could be reunited, she would accept any length of the wait.

It now understands that death is a one-way process. Once it happens, it cannot be undone.

Its grief over the deaths of Valerie and Percilla wasn't greater than its concern for Loretta. It could imagine Loretta's collapse, but that was only its imagination. Its sadness lay in the fact that its friends were trapped, a shackle wrapped around Loretta. It would take years of hard work, swallowing countless grievances, and repeatedly persuading herself to keep moving forward amidst collapse and despair, to finally escape this shackle.

How many years would that be? Five, ten, twenty, maybe a lifetime, or maybe Loretta would die as "Jidi."

This is what makes Yalinxiu most sad.

It hadn't spent much time with Valerie and had only met Persila once, so it felt nothing about their deaths.

But when Irene and Fiana came to the palace to find it and told it that Mattia was dead, it was stunned.

Its first reaction was resistance. It didn't want to believe it; it felt it was impossible. Just like Loretta didn't believe Valerie could die.

But its parents would not lie to it. It could see the tears hanging on Irene's eyelashes, and it could see the heavy expression on Fianna's face.

Isn't Matija a Beast Warrior?

The average lifespan of a Beast Warrior is one hundred years.

Matija is still young. She is strong and like a guardian angel.

Yalinxiu froze. Death was approaching it. It hadn't encountered many setbacks since its arrival in this world. Lilith left before it understood what death was.

It is well protected and smart enough, which gives it the illusion that it is omniscient and omnipotent. It feels that the world revolves around it, it can solve everything that happens around it, and it can protect its family.

It wasn't. Its absolute sense of security was shattered by Matija's death. It belatedly felt fear.

It also had no sense of the reality of Matthias's death.

Loretta knew what that feeling was. She pursed her lips and walked over to Arlinx. Under Femei's worried gaze, she looked up at Fianna and Irene.

"Please... let me have a few words with Yalinxiu. I'm so sorry to hear this news. I know how it feels, and I understand you. My condolences."

Loretta took Yalinxiu away, and Femeiou followed.

When Loretta was about to say something, she saw that Yalinxiu had calmed down. The words she wanted to say got stuck in her throat, and she knew that this calmness was just an illusion.

The most painful moment wasn't now. Not when I heard the news, or saw the body, or after the funeral. It was on a perfectly ordinary night, at a moment when I had grown accustomed to my new life and couldn't remember her.

The body forgets much slower than the brain.

When my body thinks of her but the memory hasn't come flooding back so quickly, that moment of delay is the most painful, because only at that moment am I completely defenseless.

Loretta wanted to comfort Arinhu, but she didn't know how to say it. She just looked at Arinhu and let it go.

"You've been here long enough. Although we are friends, I am responsible for my future. I am not your responsibility, Yalinxiu. You are welcome to come to Lanier again."

Loretta saw Femmeo trying to escape out of the corner of her eye, and she grabbed Femmeo.

"You too, go back. If you continue to participate, you won't be able to get out."

Femeiou turned her head.

"As a vampire, I have to see things through to the end. Besides, I have a month's vacation. Can't I stay here with you? I don't want to get away."

"You've given me a good start, but I need to walk the rest of the way on my own. Fei Meiou, was your original dream to stay in this ignorant country and deal with those stubborn eagles?

You've worked so hard for me, and that effort doesn't have to include your original dreams. I haven't given up on mine either. When I regain my status, I'll go to Brown School to find you. Musa still has property in Remiaz, so we can live together. I want to be a detective or an explorer, Femeiou, what do you think?"

Femei'o looked at Loretta, then at Yalinxiu, who was keeping her head down and silent, with her shoulders drooped, feeling really bad.

She no longer liked the death, war, and violence that brought nothing but sorrow to her friends. She knew full well that even Loretta didn't believe her.

When Loretta becomes herself again, will she still be at Brown School?

She didn't have high expectations for this.

Uncertain freedom, certain death. These things covered Loretta and Yalinxiu like black ash. Sooner or later, those black ash would descend upon her as well.

...Really, really!

Why did the world suddenly become so dark?

Femeiou stiffened his neck.

"Anyway, I've taken a month off. Yalinxiu needs to go back, so I'll stay here. We're friends, and Yalinxiu feels at ease with me staying here. I feel at ease too. It's good for everyone."

The matter was settled under Femme's firm attitude. Musa stayed in Rainier to protect Loretta and Femme's safety. Loretta became king and signed an agreement with Franche. Rainier stopped fighting and began to reorganize and develop.

Yalinxiu did not participate in the subsequent developments, but it could foresee these things. Even thinking about these, it still couldn't drive away another thought.

——Can it guarantee that its parents are always safe?

It no longer feels like there is only one yes answer.

……

Abersgard still seemed calm.

The news of Matija's death spread quickly and was suppressed. The other beast warriors were on their way, and Matija was temporarily placed in the academy's Hall of Fame, guarded by Morgha and Gilan.

Elliott refused to go into Abersg, and he and Irene said they should settle Sana down first. Sana understood their intentions, shook her head and sighed, but did not refuse.

There's nothing shameful about running away. If facing something sooner or later means less devastation, then what's the point of running away?

Nolvia watched Ellit and Irene leave with Sana. She lowered her eyes slightly and hesitated for a moment before stepping into the gate of Abersg.

She asked Hugh to take Fiana and the others to the Hall of Fame first, and she wanted to go and see how Teacher Valerio was doing first.

She knew that Julia was now with Valerio, and she wanted to know the truth. She had to know what killed Teacher Mattia.

The first person Norvia saw was Suha.

Suha looked much older than before. He looked a little thin, and fatigue was hidden in the folds of his skin, leaving circles of cruel marks.

Suha stood outside the door. Seeing Nolvia, he forced a smile.

"Aunt Julia is in there. She wants to talk to little Vale for a while. Please wait."

Suha looked ill. He wiped his face, but the dark circles under his eyes didn't fade, nor did the droopy look on his face.

Norvia's voice was soft.

"Mr. Suha, Mr. Valerio needs you. Please get as much rest as possible."

This is the most useful advice for the captain.

Suha covered her face with her hands.

"I know. Of course I know. There are many places that need me right now, but I wasn't the captain to begin with. Why should I go through all this? This was originally Raphael's job. This damn thing... Sigh.

I’m not afraid of you laughing at me, but I’m actually quite mediocre.”

Suha sighed heavily, as if this could release all the depression and fear that had accumulated over the years.

"I'm not a genius, not a noble, and not a brave man. I'm just an ordinary berserker. I feel a lot of pressure when I'm with my teammates. I feel even more pressure when I'm with Valerio. Do you know how it feels to watch someone go to hell? I know Valerio is a talented astrologer, and I believe what he said about the 'new world'. No matter what you think, I tell you, there are some people in this world who are closely related to the future. They have abilities that are more discerning and powerful than ours, and they can change the world.

Valais is such a person. He is full of passion, he repeatedly surveys the trends of the world, and he wants to usher in the new world smoothly.

But what movement would not involve sacrifice? Will there be my little Valais in the new world?

Suha clenched his fist.

"I don't know where he's been. He won't tell me anything. He's always been so unsettling, so willful! He insists on putting himself in danger, as if he was born for it.

If that's the case, then why did he become our teammate? Why did he protect me in the first place? Will we feel nothing when he dies?!

Doesn't he feel guilty about dragging me into this vortex with no future? My life has become a mess! For whom did I abandon my stable life and come here every day to carefully handle this job that I don't like in the first place! I really..."

Suha choked up. He covered his mouth with his fist.

"Little Valais isn't dead yet. Why are you venting your emotions on a child, Suha? Go to sleep. Dade has made the schedule, and it's time for you to get some rest. You know little Valais' personality. It's not your fault that he's unconscious. You're his friend, not his father. There's no need to blame yourself so much."

You've been expecting this day, haven't you? When you graduated, you were worried that something would happen to him one day, and you had nightmares for a month or two. Now that the nightmare has happened, you don't have anything to worry about anymore."

The speaker was a woman wearing a headscarf, whom Norvia had met before, handing out meal vouchers on campus. Norvia knew her identity.

"Alita", a member of the "New World" team.

Alita pushed Suha away with a swift movement.

"Now I'll be watching Valerio. You'd better be asleep before I finish watching over you, or I won't mind using force."

Suha subconsciously shrank his neck. He wanted to resist, but when he met Alita's gaze, he gave up.

Alita leaned against the wall, and Nolvia looked at her. She was about to speak when she was interrupted by Alita.

"Don't say those comforting words. The facts are right here. Nothing can reassure me. Since you are a student that Valerio values, say something that is consistent with your abilities."

Alita stared at Nolvia with cold and emotionless eyes.

"I heard what Suha said. Your expression shows that you, like Valerio, have a premonition about the world. I never understood what kind of changes in the world could be worth people like you risking your lives to throw yourself into such a desperate situation."

"The war of gods will happen."

Norvia's tone was calm, as if she was sharing fairly normal news.

Alita was stunned for a moment, then she laughed.

"You really believed little Valais... Is it because everyone's joining him in his mischief that he gets hurt so recklessly time and time again? I really don't understand. Just because some false gods have appeared, does that mean the so-called war of gods will happen?"

"Why not?"

"Because I am a theologian. I know more about all the gods than you and Valerio do.

This world is composed of gods. All magic and talent originate from them. The land, the sky, the forests, the sea—they are all an extension of the gods' power. The gods are the skeleton and the container of the world. The First War of the Gods weakened the gods' power, and they dispersed it among their people—us. Therefore, geniuses are easily born in this era.

We are like water in a container. As the water grows heavier, the container's walls become thinner, and the world collapses. If another war breaks out between the gods, both the gods and us will be doomed. The gods' power cannot be expended any further, and a war between the gods cannot occur. I don't believe that those omniscient gods don't understand their predicament, nor do they have the power to ignite another war between the gods.

"Therefore, they are no longer able to stop the war between gods."

Norvia's complexion was so pale that she looked transparent.

She continued speaking along with Alita's words.

"If the false god possesses enough power, if the false god wants to declare war, the weakened gods will be unable to stop it, right? No one expects a war between gods, but it is bound to happen."

Alita did not express her opinion. She held her head high and her tone remained calm.

"That's nothing we can do. If even the gods can't stop the war of gods, then what can save us? Little Valais must have thought of some solution, but obviously, he failed. Do you have any ideas?"

"Not yet, but there will be a time. I have a final choice."

"Will that choice make you disappear into the new world?"

“…Change always involves sacrifice.”

Alita said nothing. After a moment, she sneered.

"As expected of Little Valais' student."
