79: Our New Home

Owning a house might have been an option twenty years ago.

My parents provided the down payment for their house.

I was also told, “If you’re going to buy a house, you should at least provide the down payment,” but I didn’t want to create a financial debt with anyone, so I declined and chose to rent.

Fortunately, as my legal guardian, my parents’ credentials were solid, so things went smoothly.

And so, we started living together in a modest apartment on the upper floor.

Bed.

Refrigerator.

Temperature control device.

Washing machine.

Magic display screen.

Table.

Chairs.

Cooking utensils.

And then…

There were too many things to get.

Life-line contract.

Change of address notification.

Delivery of mail associated with moving.

Notification of address change for the license (not me, but Milim).

Too many things associated with moving.

In the societal system, the intentions of the “enemy” are clearly visible.

Perhaps the “enemy” dislikes frequent moves, deliberately making the procedures cumbersome to undermine fighting spirit.

Considering the policy to dull the fighting spirit, it seemed that the “enemy” aimed for the stabilization of addresses, in other words, the stabilization of status.

Addresses change with income, and income changes with status.

Although the aristocratic system has long been abolished, remnants of it are still felt everywhere. It’s tough for someone not born into a good family to seize opportunities, and even after seizing them and establishing a position, the struggle to maintain it becomes significant.

In this world where the intention of “stay put” is felt everywhere, it seems that the “enemy” is intervening to stabilize everything.

Does this mean that the “enemy” seeks and strives to maintain a conventional “power”?

Perhaps through moving, I have come one step closer to understanding the true nature of the “enemy”.

Indeed, in the political core—when my father consulted, “Dad, I’m thinking of running for office,” a while ago, advising him to refrain seemed to have been correct.

After completing the busy procedures, I then arranged the furniture to a certain extent.

A considerable amount of savings has disappeared, and I was convinced that the “enemy” deliberately sets a higher level of effort associated with moving to prevent the move from happening.

Lying side by side on the large bed, we gazed at the ceiling of the house.

Although it’s not a new home, when I closed my eyes and lay down, I could smell the unfamiliar scent of the house.

Milim’s left hand touched my right hand.

I held her hand and found myself lost in thought.

There’s a college student in the house—

With just a one-year age gap, there’s nothing to be ashamed of, but there’s a mysterious charm in the sound of “a college student in the house.”

I haven’t mentioned cohabitation with Milim at the school where I work, but I suddenly thought that I might be unconsciously walking on a tightrope.

Well, the public isn’t that fond of gossip, so even if a novice teacher from a prestigious school is cohabiting with a partner who is a year younger and potentially considering marriage, I doubt there would be much criticism.

The “odd caution towards morals” in this area is influenced by some past life.
