Su Ting took a deep breath and looked at the pitch-black stairwell entrance. "Let's go down then."
They continued forward, traversing several narrow emergency escape tunnels, and finally arrived at Sector B3. The temperature here plummeted, frost clung to the metal walls, the ground was damp, and the air was thick with a cold, mechanical smell.
At the elevator entrance, an old identity verification device was turned off. Xiao You took out a small tool and swiped it gently; the machine immediately emitted a soft beeping sound.
The elevator started slowly and made a dull creaking sound as it descended.
Upon reaching the entrance to Zone B3, a heavy metal gate stood silently before us. A large, bright red warning sign was displayed above it:
Unauthorized personnel are prohibited from entering.
Lin Su shrugged. "We are clearly not among those authorized."
He took out a small interference card and inserted it into the gap. With a click, the gate slowly opened. The crowd filed in.
Inside was a huge cold storage room.
Countless cryogenic ice chambers are arranged neatly and orderly, but the lights flicker, as if the entire area could collapse at any moment.
"Over there," Ji Yan pointed in a direction, "the one in the middle with the largest number."
It was a small, enclosed room with a black nameplate hanging on the door: [EX-07]
Su Ting walked over, his fingers touching the keypad, only to find the input interface blank. He turned to look at the gray-robed man.
The gray-robed man remained standing still, his gaze unfathomable. "You really want to go in?"
“Of course,” Su Ting replied without hesitation.
"But once you're inside, you can never deny it again."
Chu Mo interrupted coldly, "No matter the cost, we cannot go back empty-handed."
The man in the gray robe looked at her, his eyes unfathomable. "Alright. Then let me open the door."
The moment his palm touched the door, a beam of blue light rapidly spread out. The door slid open, and a chill rushed out from inside.
Everyone was startled and slowly walked into the house.
Before them stood a transparent ice chamber, inside which a girl with closed eyes and a peaceful expression had her long hair gently swaying in the liquid oxygen bubbles.
“It’s Shen Zhixue…” Su Ting blurted out.
but--
Just as they took a step closer, the girl inside the cabin suddenly opened her eyes.
Her lips moved slightly.
No sound came out.
But at that moment, everyone clearly "heard" one sentence:
"You...you finally came."
Chapter 1043 The Transparent Glass Dome
Lin Su suddenly took a step back, his hand resting on the gun handle at his waist.
The girl inside the cabin—Shen Zhixue—was gazing at them through the transparent glass dome. Her gaze was calm, yet it sent a chill down everyone's spine.
"She's 'speaking'?" An Ran frowned. "There are no speakers, no transmission system... how... how did we hear her?"
Chu Mo gritted his teeth: "Telepathic mental waves? Or some kind of consciousness resonance device?"
Ji Yan said in a deep voice, "No matter what, she knew we would come."
Su Ting stared intently into Shen Zhixue's eyes, his voice low and menacing: "Weren't you... already dead?"
Shen Zhixue's lips curled into a half-smile: "What you perceive as 'death'... is merely another form of existence."
Her lips remained still, but her words resonated clearly in everyone's minds, as if echoing from within.
“We are the test subjects…” Shen Zhixue’s voice came slowly, “while she is the true core.”
"Her?" Xiao You looked around the empty space in confusion. "Who?"
The liquid inside the cabin rippled slightly. Shen Zhixue's gaze swept over everyone, lingering on Lin Su for a few seconds.
Then, she uttered only two words:
"Number one."
Lin Su's face turned deathly pale instantly.
"What do you mean?" An Ran asked hurriedly.
Shen Zhixue didn't speak again, but gently closed her eyes and fell into a deep sleep once more. It was as if those words were the last vestige of her remaining will.
The gray-robed man stood silently by the door for a long time before finally speaking: "She can't hold on much longer. It's a miracle that she was able to maintain her energy until that last moment of communication."
“But what exactly is this ‘Number One’ she mentioned…” Su Ting turned around to ask, but found that the scene inside the cabin had changed.
Shen Zhixue, who was originally floating quietly in the cabin, suddenly began to tremble violently. Dense bubbles began to rise from the surrounding liquid, and the monitoring instruments flashed red lights frantically.
Immediately afterwards, the alarm sounded—
"Abnormal reading! Target activity recovery exceeds threshold! Initiate emergency lockdown procedures!!"
The entire room was suddenly illuminated by a blinding red light, and a row of chain-linked mechanical arms descended from the ceiling, attempting to hold the hull in place.
"Not good!" Ji Yan quickly scanned the surrounding control panels. "This thing needs to enter an automatic freeze-restart program. If we force a restart, it will directly freeze the life-active substances inside the chamber!"
"That means... she might really die," An Ran said urgently.
"We have to stop it!" Lin Su shouted as he rushed towards the control panel by the door. "You, can you cut off the alarm source on your end?"
"I'm testing it! This broken system is even more chaotic than an old lady's sewing box!" Xiaoyou cursed as she operated it.
"Forget about procedures, just open the hatch!" Chu Mo drew his short knife and kicked the hatch-side auxiliary opening device.
With a loud bang, the whole room shook.
At that very moment, all the lights suddenly went out.
The entire space was plunged into complete darkness, with only Shen Zhixue's pale face faintly visible in the cold blue light inside the ice chamber.
Then, a cold voice, belonging to no one, suddenly echoed in the room:
[System has detected residual signal from Entity 1... Re-establishing connection...]
Everyone froze.
Su Ting suddenly looked up: "Who...? Who is Number One?!"
In the darkness, Shen Zhixue opened her eyes again, but this time—her gaze had changed.
Chapter 1044 Restrained Emotions
It was no longer the complex and restrained emotion of before, but rather an empty, cold, and detached scrutiny, almost like that of a god looking down upon all living beings.
“Welcome back…Executor.” Her lips parted slightly, her tone unfamiliar and cold. “I’ve been waiting for you.”
"Wait." Lin Su swallowed hard, his face tense. "Who are you?"
The girl tilted her head, a cold smile playing on her lips. Her voice was still that familiar voice, but now carried a chilling mechanical quality: "I am the first... and the last. You are the seventh vessel... but do you know? Your mission was never truly complete."
She raised one hand and pressed it against the cabin wall, and a ripple of blue light spread along the transparent surface.
The whole room began to shake, and ominous clicking sounds came from the walls, as if something was trying to break free of its restraints.
For the first time, the gray-robed man's voice betrayed panic: "Retreat! This isn't 'Shen Zhixue'!"
"Wait!" Su Ting roared, "At least we need to figure out... who she is! Why does she call me 'Executor'!"
The woman in the cabin fixed her gaze on him: "Because you are the first container I set up."
"What did you say?"
Her voice seemed to come from the depths of an ancient valley: "Everything about you... every battle you remember, every order, every decision... is just a projection of me. And now... it's time to reset."
As soon as he finished speaking, a violent energy shockwave erupted throughout the entire cold storage room.
Cracks appeared in the metal floor, and the surrounding ice chambers exploded one after another, filling the entire space with liquid nitrogen and ice shards.
"Lin Su! Take Su Ting away!" the gray-robed man roared. "She really wants to restart the world's architecture program!"
"No! He can't leave yet!" Ji Yan shouted, "She hasn't told us the whole truth!"
"Are you crazy?" An Ran roared, "This isn't something a human-made AI could do!"
Chu Mo grabbed Su Ting's arm: "Let's get out of here first! We can't hold this place!"
Just then, a pale blue light curtain suddenly appeared outside Shen Zhixue's cabin, like a bell-shaped dome formed by some kind of isolation barrier, shutting out all the explosions and chaos from the outside world.
“If you still remember any fragments of your past… then come and find me.” She said to Su Ting, her tone as gentle as that of an old friend. “I know you’re confused right now. But once you take this step… you won’t have any more doubts.”
An eerie stillness fell over the air at that moment.
The others had already rushed outside, but Su Ting remained standing there, staring at the glowing barrier.
His fists clenched so tightly they cracked.
Behind them, only one person could still hear those words—Lin Su.
