Chapter 1011 A True Story
“This isn’t a battle record at all.” Eileen’s face grew even paler. “It’s an algorithm-predicted replay mode… which means…”
“In other words,” Ah Chen continued, “that wasn’t her real experience, but a scenario created by the system when testing her combat reaction model.”
The entire space fell silent.
An invisible pressure permeated the air, making even breathing feel heavy.
"Lia," Su Ting said softly, his eyes filled with extreme worry, "Are you alright? Do you feel... something's wrong?"
She didn't respond.
Cold sweat beaded on her forehead, her lips were tightly pressed together, and her hands were clenched into fists.
“Tell me,” she suddenly spoke, her voice weak but undeniable, “How did you escape? If what you’re saying is true… you were the last test subject, then how have you survived until now?”
A hint of sadness flashed in Ah Chen's eyes.
"Because I was preserved for the same purpose as you—as a backup container for the system's residual consciousness."
He raised his arm, and a hidden silver-white device on his wrist automatically unfolded, displaying a countdown timer:
**Remaining time: 35 minutes and 26 seconds.**
"You think 'system destruction' is the end?" he sneered. "But that's an illusion. The real core has never been inside the main tower; it was planted in the minds of each and every one of us long ago. It's just that you can't see it or feel it. Only when certain conditions are triggered... will it awaken again."
He paused, looking at the data stream that was beginning to appear in the tower's mind:
"And now, that is the time."
The light screen in the tower suddenly changed, and a string of unfamiliar yet familiar text began to be automatically input—it was an ancient system coding language, an artificial intelligence interface protocol that they had abandoned many years ago!
"You can't let him keep talking!" Li Yuanhang roared, pointing his gun at Achen's forehead. "We have to end this conversation, or the system will reconnect to his signal!"
"Stop." Leah suddenly raised her hand, stopping everyone.
She took a deep breath and slowly walked to the center of the tower.
The tower trembled, and beams of light swirled around her body.
Who...am I?
She asked in a low voice.
It's not a question directed at others, but a questioning of one's own soul.
Ah Chen gazed quietly into her eyes:
"You can use this to confirm the answer."
He handed her the device on his wrist; the metal case glowed with a faint blue light, and it had an option button on it:
[Verify core identity]
Or
[Forced Residue Removal Protocol]
“Choose,” he said. “Do you want to become a true ‘self,’ or would you rather destroy all of this to prove that you are not a continuation of the system?”
The air was filled with the smell of electric arcs, and everyone held their breath in anticipation.
Leah reached out and her fingertips touched the edge of the button—at that moment, the entire tower seemed to tremble, and the starlight went out in its last struggle across the sky.
However, a second before she pressed the button, a huge explosion was heard in the distance!
A burst of red light exploded from outside the tower, followed by a series of footsteps approaching from afar—accompanied by a familiar voice:
"Don't listen to his Leah, she's a fake identity imposter!"
It was Chu Mo, their squad's former adjutant who had been separated from them!
"I know the truth—I've seen the true structure of the system's core! Ah Chen is another trap! Stop what you're doing—leave now!!!"
Chapter 1012 The Complete Outbreak
Before the words were even finished, another gunshot ripped through the air!
Chaos erupted completely at this moment—
Ah Chen suddenly turned his head, his eyes as cold as a knife:
"You're still alive... You betrayed the system, and you know the consequences better than anyone else."
"I didn't betray you." Chu Mo stood at the door, panting, blood streaming down his shoulder, a broken memory chip clutched in his hand. "I just found what you dared not face—the truth."
Almost the instant the gun fired, everyone went into battle mode.
"Chu Mo!" Su Ting exclaimed, almost instinctively rushing towards the door, but was pulled back by Li Yuanhang.
"Don't move!" he hissed. "There's a trap!"
Sure enough, the moment Su Ting stepped out, the ground energy sensing lines were automatically triggered, and a circle of red light swept across his toes. If he hadn't been pulled back half a step, he would have been locked in by the electric arc—this was part of the tower's outer defense mechanism, and it was absolutely impossible for it to be within the permissions set by their team.
"Lia!" Chu Mo's voice was hoarse and anxious. His left hand was tightly gripping the damaged memory chip, while blood was seeping from his right shoulder, as if every time he stood up was a struggle.
"That's not Ah Chen, that's an imposter! The system was destroyed long ago... He used each and every one of us!"
"What are you talking about?" Eileen gripped her dagger, standing beside Leah and asking in a low voice, "How do you know he's not real?"
“Because… the real A-Chen died long ago on the day the ‘Zero Boundary’ experiment failed.” Chu Mo said, panting heavily. “I saw him being devoured by the system, his consciousness torn apart, turning into data debris. The A-Chen you saw… was just an imitation, bait prepared by the system to lure you closer to the core.”
The air seemed to freeze for a moment.
Leah's brows furrowed deeply, her finger still hovering over the button on the device, not pressing it.
"Do you have any evidence for what you're saying?" Her voice was low, but everyone could hear the suppressed emotions within it.
Chu Mo slowly raised the memory chip in his hand, which emitted a faint blue light:
"This is a backup of the experiment termination record that I risked my life to retrieve. If Ah Chen is really a member of the 'system remnant,' why would he allow me to bring these out? He should have eliminated me long ago, right?"
No one answered him; the only sound in the room was the howling of the wind through the crumbling tower walls.
"So you came here to destroy this fake A-Chen?" Li Yuanhang asked calmly, still holding his gun.
"I'm not here to destroy anyone." Chu Mo looked at Liya, a bitter look flashing in his eyes. "I just can't watch you fall into the last trap set by the system."
He took a difficult step forward: "You are Leah, not Administrator 01, nor a copy of anyone."
The fake Ah Chen chuckled coldly:
"Ridiculous. You think you can fool her? You think the data in that piece of junk chip can represent any truth? The real question has never been who I am... but whether she was willing to face the experience she erased herself before she became who she is now."
As he spoke, he suddenly raised his arm, and the numbers on the device screen began to count down at an accelerated pace!
Time remaining: 30 minutes and 42 seconds.
"What is he doing?" Su Ting frowned.
Leah's expression finally changed.
In that instant, she felt something strange being activated deep within her mind. It was like a long-forgotten name suddenly being called; like a memory sealed away for years abruptly breaking free and rushing into her thought center.
Chapter 1013 Almost Kneeled on the Ground
Su Ting's head throbbed with pain, his vision blurred, and he staggered, almost collapsing to his knees.
"No...no..." He gritted his teeth and supported himself. "How could this connection, which shouldn't exist, be...?"
"It seems you've started to react," the fake Su Ting said coldly, his eyes flashing with an emotion that was not human. "Welcome back, Su Ting."
"Shut up!" Su Ting suddenly looked up, a flash of silver lightning appearing in his eyes. "I don't know what methods you used to make me uncomfortable... but I won't believe a single word you say!"
Seeing this, Chu Mo became extremely anxious. Despite his pain, he took a few steps forward, trying to stop him, saying, "You can't let the system continue to connect now, Su Ting, or you won't be yourself anymore!"
Just then, Su Ting's body trembled slightly.
He closed his eyes, and countless images flashed through his mind:
Battlefield, laboratory, rain of code, prison chair in cold white light, and... that familiar figure.
It was the real Su Ting.
"Su Ting...you must remember, you are the final key."
The sound seemed to pierce through time and space, striking the deepest part of the soul.
“You are a living, breathing person, not a continuation of a system.”
"You must escape... no matter the cost."
When he opened his eyes, his gaze had become sharp as a knife.
With a flick of his finger, he selected the option without hesitation:
[Forced Residue Removal Protocol]
In an instant, the energy field inside the tower became completely chaotic!
The entire tower shook violently, countless runes shattered and scattered, and electric currents danced wildly on the tower walls like snakes, filling the air with a scorching aura.
