“We have to stop them as soon as possible,” Lena said firmly.
"Tomorrow, we'll act together, rescue the people first, and then deal with the Dark Night organization," Su Ting decided.
“We must succeed no matter what,” Leah said firmly.
“I definitely will.” Anne smiled, her eyes shining with trust.
The group gathered around the campfire, their hearts filled with determination and resolve. As night deepened, a new challenge was about to begin.
"No matter what, we can't give up," Lena said softly.
“Yes, we will find the answer,” Leah agreed.
"It will definitely happen," Su Ting said softly, his eyes shining with determination.
“I believe you.” Anne smiled slightly, her eyes shining with trust.
Chapter 936 Everyone, listen up!
The next morning, before the morning mist had dissipated, a damp smell filled the forest. Suting and Aiden were ready and stood by the campfire waiting for the others to assemble.
"Listen up, everyone." Su Ting glanced around, his voice firm. "We will split into two groups. One group, led by me, will be responsible for rescuing the hostages, while the other group will assist in investigating the Dark Night organization's secret experiments. The mission is dangerous, so please proceed with extreme caution."
"Understood!" they all replied in unison.
"Lia, Lena, and Annie, the three of you will come with me to rescue the villagers. Kevin and Aiden will be in charge of investigating the secret laboratory inside the base. Once our two teams have completed their objectives, we will immediately regroup under the old oak tree," Su Ting explained very clearly.
"Don't worry, we'll find out everything." Aiden patted his chest with a smile.
"Remember, safety comes first," Anne said softly, a hint of worry in her eyes. "Don't take too many risks."
“We’re not the kind of people who act recklessly,” Aiden shrugged and smiled.
The groups set off separately, their steps heavy with dew. Su Ting and his two companions moved silently through the forest path and soon arrived at a ruin near the village.
"This is it. The Dark Night Organization has set up a temporary detention center here," Su Ting said in a low voice, pointing to a stone house in front of him.
Three guards in black patrolled around the house, carrying short blades and looking wary; they didn't seem to be ordinary soldiers.
“There aren’t many of them, but we have to get rid of them quietly,” Lena whispered.
“We can flank them from the side and distract them,” Leah suggested.
“Okay, I’ll go distract them,” Anne stepped forward.
"What? But that's too dangerous!" Leah quickly stopped her.
“I won’t confront them directly,” Anne smiled faintly. “I’m just trying to attract their attention. Don’t worry, I’ll use my abilities.”
“You’re right.” Su Ting nodded, his tone serious. “Remember, stay in touch, and evacuate immediately if there’s a problem.”
Anne crouched low, using the bushes and dilapidated walls for cover as she approached the edge of the village. Just as she neared one of the guards, she gently opened her palm, and a pale blue halo emanated from it, drifting slowly like mist. Immediately afterward, a series of soft footsteps echoed in the air, attracting the attention of one of the guards.
"Hmm?" The man frowned and looked in the direction of the sound. "Who is it?!"
The other two immediately became alert and looked in that direction as well. Just as the guards were distracted, Su Ting, Lia, and Lena quietly sneaked in from another direction.
Intermittent sobbing could be heard coming from inside the house, indicating that many villagers were being held captive there.
“They are torturing these civilians!” Leah gritted her teeth in anger.
"Let's go in and check the situation first, then decide on the next course of action," Su Ting said softly.
The three climbed over the low wall and entered the house, where they saw more than a dozen villagers bound to the ground with ropes, their faces haggard and filled with fear. In the corner was a wooden cage containing two young children with tears in their eyes.
Upon seeing someone sneak in, an elderly man struggled to ask in a low voice, "Who...who are you? Are you here to rescue us?"
“Yes.” Su Ting nodded. “I am Su Ting. Come with us.”
Just then, a sharp shout came from outside the door: "Someone's coming—!"
This was followed by the sounds of clashing metal and the outbreak of battle!
Chapter 937 I'll unlock the chains
"Oh no! Get them away quickly!" Su Ting exclaimed urgently.
"I'll unlock the chains." Lena quickly pulled a small toolbox from her pocket and began to work.
Outside, a fierce battle raged, and Annie's figure flashed in and out of the light and shadow. As she waved her hands, a layer of afterimages appeared in the air, causing the enemy's vision to be momentarily distorted and confused.
A man charged at her, his blade flashing. But instead of retreating, Annie advanced, dodging the blade at close range, and gently tapped his forehead with her hand. The man gasped and immediately fainted.
"Hmph, trying to stop me?" She smiled slightly, then leaped onto a high place and shouted, "They have been subdued by us, surrender!"
The enemy clearly didn't believe in this feinting tactic, but Leah and Sutin quickly dealt with the last remaining enemies. The villagers were rescued one by one, holding their children and weeping.
Meanwhile, Kevin and Aiden were stealthily infiltrating the base's secret passage. The entrance was extremely well-hidden; only those familiar with the route could find it. The two successfully entered the hidden room and discovered it was a research institute resembling a potion experiment facility. Various bottles and jars filled a long table, with a huge alchemical furnace in the center, emitting thick purple smoke.
"What...is this?" Aiden's eyes widened. "Are they creating a virus?"
"It looks more like an energy core." Kevin frowned and examined it closely.
Just then, footsteps sounded behind them, followed by a cold laugh:
"I knew they would come back."
When they turned around, they saw the mysterious man in black robes staring coldly at them.
"Welcome to the finish line." He stepped forward slowly, exuding an eerie aura. "Since you're here, don't leave."
The atmosphere suddenly became tense. Aiden clenched his fists, a slight smile playing on his lips: "Well, we might not accept that."
Before he finished speaking, he suddenly took a step forward, his fist whistling through the air, aiming straight for his opponent's cheek!
Meanwhile, in the village, Su Ting and his group had just led the rescued people a short distance away. Before they even left the woods, they saw a bright flame rise into the sky in the distance, accompanied by a loud bang that shook the mountains and forests.
Everyone's expression changed, and they all understood what had happened.
"Kevin and the others are in trouble," Anne said urgently. "We have to go help them!"
“Wait a minute,” Su Ting analyzed calmly, “Let’s first confirm whether they were attacked or deliberately caused the explosion.”
"But there's no time now!" Annie practically shouted. "You know Kevin's personality; he'd rather risk his own life than drag his teammates down with him! If we don't go save him now, we might never see them again!"
Leah gritted her teeth, turned to look at Su Ting, and said, "You decide! We'll wait for your instructions!"
Su Ting closed his eyes and pondered for a moment, then opened them and said firmly:
"We're going to rescue them. No matter the cost, we will never allow our comrades to fall into enemy hands."
The birdsong in the woods suddenly ceased, and everyone held their breath, quietly awaiting the next command.
The next moment, a deep yet powerful voice rang in everyone's ears:
"Then, let's go full speed ahead."
Anne frowned, her toes unconsciously scraping the dirt on the ground. "We can't delay any longer," she whispered. "If they're trapped in that secret laboratory... the fumes from that alchemical furnace are poisonous; the longer they stay, the greater the danger."
Chapter 938 You can go and save people without worry.
Su Ting's gaze darkened slightly. "Let's go. We'll go straight in through the western mountain path. There's a collapsed ventilation shaft there, which Aiden mentioned we could pass through before."
Lena picked up a small child and handed him to the other villagers. "You all lead everyone to gather under the old oak tree. Be careful and avoid the patrolling guards."
The village chief nodded vigorously, "We won't cause any trouble, you can go and rescue them with peace of mind!"
The three quickly adjusted their posture and proceeded in the direction Su Ting had indicated.
On the other side, thick smoke filled the laboratory, and the energy fluctuations of fire element still lingered on Aiden's right fist. Kevin stood beside him, a silver short sword gleaming coldly in his hand, watching the scene ahead warily.
The man in black robes approached slowly, his voice seemingly coming from the abyss: "You shouldn't be here... This place is not a territory you can touch."
Aiden grinned, a hint of disdain in his laughter. "Oh? That sounds pretty scary. But I don't like it when people limit me."
"Shut up!" the other party roared, opening his palm and a black vortex suddenly exploded out, causing the air to vibrate as if it were being torn apart!
Kevin's eyes sharpened as he stepped aside, his sword slashing at the oncoming black mist. "Get out of the way!" he shouted to Aiden.
Aiden leaped into the air, using the wall as leverage to spin and kick out mid-air. Flames roared down his calf, and the sound of wind cutting filled the air!
boom!
The flames struck the black-robed man's shoulder, unleashing a deafening roar!
"You're courting death!!" The man in black robes was furious, his eyes turning red. A surge of dark purple energy suddenly erupted from his body, making him appear to double in size, and strange runes appeared on his skin.
Kevin's expression changed drastically. "Oh no, he's a forbidden modified being! This guy isn't just a simple mage... he's an artificial warrior created by fusing alien powers using alchemy!"
Aiden caught his breath and wiped the blood from his forehead. "Ha, no wonder it smelled so bad... so he's not human."
"Stop playing around," Kevin said coldly. "We have to take care of him as soon as possible."
"No problem, let him know what the fist of justice is!"
The two exchanged a glance and each took a step forward to attack.
At the same moment, five shadows were darting rapidly through the woods, each step precise and steady.
"We're almost there!" Su Ting whispered as he ran. "Aiden and the others should be in the east corner of the basement level. We need to find that iron door entrance."
"Will we clash head-on with the enemy?" Leah frowned. "There must be a lot of reinforcements over there."
