Su Ting stood at the edge of the high ground, his eyes sharp as an eagle's, surveying the surrounding movements.
"Everyone is exhausted tonight, including you, Captain."
Li Ming walked over and handed him a hot water bottle. "Drink some hot water to warm yourself up."
Su Ting took the water bottle, took a sip, and said, "Thank you, Li Ming. You should rest too."
Li Ming gave a wry smile. "Captain, my old bones aren't as strong as yours. The situation we're facing right now isn't easy."
Su Ting nodded. "Indeed. Although we won the battle during the day, we cannot let our guard down. The enemy's attacks may continue."
Just then, the communications soldier ran over, looking flustered. "Captain, command has new intelligence!"
"What's going on?" Su Ting asked quickly.
"There are signs of a large-scale troop movement by the enemy, possibly preparing for a night attack," the communications soldier said breathlessly.
"Understood," Su Ting said in a deep voice. "Immediately notify all sentry posts to strengthen their vigilance and not to relax their guard in the slightest."
Li Ming glanced at the departing figure of the communications soldier, then turned to Su Ting: "Do you think they might actually come?"
"It's better to believe it exists than to believe it doesn't," Su Ting said firmly. "We will make full preparations, regardless of whether the enemy comes or not."
Soon, the entire camp was placed under a state of emergency.
Soldiers filed out of the tents, armed with guns, to stand guard and patrol. Machine gunners and mortar crews also took their positions, ready for action.
"Captain, look over there!" a sentry suddenly pointed to the northwest.
Following his gaze, everyone saw several beams of light flash in the distance, accompanied by a faint rumbling sound.
"Everyone stay calm, stay hidden, and be ready to fight at any time," Su Ting commanded in a low voice.
A few minutes later, the sound grew closer, and the enemy's figures gradually became clearer. Their rapidly moving shadows could be seen in the darkness.
"Everyone, take your positions and prepare to engage the enemy!" Su Ting decisively gave the order.
At his command, the lights in the camp went out instantly, and the whole place became deathly silent.
The soldiers gripped their weapons tightly, held their breath, and stared intently ahead.
As expected, the enemy charged forward, attempting to break through the defenses under the cover of darkness.
But the well-prepared defenses prevented them from succeeding. Bullets whistled past, mortars began to fire, explosions erupted one after another, and sparks flew everywhere.
"Suppress fire! Don't let them get too close!" Su Ting's voice echoed across the battlefield.
Li Ming, standing beside him, fired his gun while shouting a warning: "Watch out for the left! A few slipped through the net and got around!"
Upon hearing this, the soldiers quickly adjusted their positions and successfully blocked the enemy attempting to flank them. The battle was extremely fierce, with every second a matter of life and death.
Finally, after a fierce resistance, the enemy's offensive was halted.
A faint light appeared on the horizon, heralding the approaching dawn. Only ravaged land and abandoned weapons and equipment remained on the battlefield.
"Clean up the battlefield and tally the casualties," Su Ting ordered. "And send some men to search the surrounding area to prevent any remaining enemies from hiding."
Li Ming sighed, looking at the devastation all around: "This was really too dangerous. If we hadn't made sufficient preparations beforehand, I really can't imagine the consequences."
"Yes, thankfully we all persevered."
Su Ting patted him on the shoulder, "But the war is far from over, and we must remain vigilant at all times."
The two looked at each other and smiled, feeling an unprecedented brotherhood at that moment.
Just then, another communications soldier ran over to report: "Captain, command has given us orders to strengthen communication with the northern positions before dawn and prepare to receive friendly forces."

Su Ting nodded and said, "Okay, tell everyone to prepare to welcome our friendly forces. At the same time, be vigilant in case the enemy launches another surprise attack."
The communications soldier received his orders and left, and the camp became busy.
The soldiers began clearing the battlefield, aiding the wounded, and reinforcing the defensive lines.
"Captain, you should go and rest for a bit. Leave the rest to me."
Li Ming patted Su Ting on the shoulder, "You have an iron body, but you still need to rest properly."
Su Ting gave a wry smile. "Alright, but you need to let me know immediately if anything happens."
Li Ming nodded. "Don't worry, I'll handle it."
After Su Ting left, Li Ming began to direct the various tasks on site.
He first sent some soldiers to search for enemies that might be hiding in the surrounding area, and then sent people to inspect the fortifications and sentry posts.
As night deepened, the cold wind grew even more biting.
The soldiers wrapped their coats tighter around themselves, their eyes remaining resolute, and none of them showed the slightest sign of slackening.
"Captain, friendly forces from the north are approaching." A soldier rushed over to report shortly after.
Li Ming immediately stepped forward to check and indeed saw several points of light gradually approaching in the distance.
"Be prepared to receive them," he ordered. "Don't let anyone slip in during the chaos."
As the footsteps drew closer, friendly forces finally appeared on the north side.
They arrived exhausted, but their morale remained high.
"This is the Fourth Company, and we are reinforcements from the Third Company." The leading officer saluted Li Ming.
"Thank you for your hard work," Li Ming returned the greeting. "Have you understood the situation here?"
"We have a general idea; the command center gave us some information."
The officer said, "But please describe the current situation in more detail."
Li Ming briefly recounted the daytime battle and the nighttime raid, then added, "We just made emergency adjustments, but we still need more manpower to strengthen our defenses."
The officer nodded. "No problem, we'll join the defense deployment immediately. We've also brought some supplies."
Just then, a soldier ran over: "Report! A small group of enemy remnants, about twenty people, has been spotted to the south. They appear to be retreating."
Li Ming quickly turned to the reinforcing officer: "It seems we have a chance to cut off their retreat. Can you spare some troops?"
"Sure, we can send a small squad over and try to wipe them all out," the officer replied.
Li Ming nodded in agreement. "That's settled then. Move quickly. Remember, safety first."
The reinforcement squad set off quickly, stealthily following the retreating enemy. After tracking them for some distance, they located the remaining enemy troops on a hill.
"Everyone get ready, proceed according to plan," the squad leader whispered the order.
The soldiers silently dispersed, slowly forming an encirclement.
Once everything was ready, a sharp whistle rang out—the signal to launch the attack.
Gunfire instantly shattered the tranquility of the night sky, bullets whistling as they hurtled towards the enemy's location.
Caught off guard, the enemies were thrown into chaos, trying to resist but unable to turn the tide.
At the same time, the sound of helicopters could be heard over the camp.
"It seems air support has arrived." Li Ming looked up at the sky. "This makes things even safer."
Soon, the helicopter landed at the designated location, bringing more ammunition and medicine.
Accompanying them were some professional medical personnel who immediately began treating the wounded.
Chapter 390 Annihilating the Remnants of the Enemy
"Captain, the reinforcements have successfully wiped out the remaining enemy forces; there were no casualties," a soldier rushed in to report.
Li Ming nodded.
"Well done, get them back to their positions as soon as possible. We can't let our guard down now, the enemy may have other plans."
The soldier saluted, then turned and ran off to relay the order.
The atmosphere in the camp gradually calmed down, but everyone remained highly vigilant. Inside the medical tents, work continued non-stop as doctors raced against time to treat the wounded.
A young soldier sat on the ground, his face bearing several unhealed wounds. He looked at an older comrade beside him and asked, "Squad leader, how long do you think this battle will last?"
The veteran was silent for a moment, then gently patted his shoulder, "Keep going, victory is just around the corner."
Suddenly, an urgent voice came through the communication device: "Report! Enemy reconnaissance aircraft detected approaching!"
Li Ming quickly walked to the communications soldier's side, took the microphone, and said: "Attention all units, air defense weapons are ready, prepare to shoot down enemy aircraft!"
No sooner had he finished speaking than several small, rapidly moving dots appeared in the distant sky—enemy drones.
The anti-aircraft fire around the camp immediately opened fire, and the dense artillery fire formed a large net, shooting down the drones one by one.
Enemy planes crashed one after another, their burning debris tracing arcs through the air. The soldiers erupted in cheers, but this did not lower their guard.
“Continue to strengthen surveillance,” Li Ming said seriously. “There may be multiple more attacks tonight.”
Night deepened, and the temperature dropped. The soldiers huddled around the campfire, warming each other. Some took out their treasured snacks and shared them with everyone.
"Hey, I heard you guys brought a lot of good stuff this time?" an old soldier said with a smile to the reinforcement team.
One of the new soldiers chuckled and said, "That's right, there's also a lot of chocolate and canned food."
