Chapter 7! The Beginning of Trust

After Jill finished arming herself, the two left the room to explore the mansion further.

After leaving the house, Shen Ye walked faster and took the lead, which immediately displeased Jill, who had been pushed aside by him.

This strong-willed woman thought Shen Ye was deliberately trying to show off, so when they passed a corner in the corridor, she quickened her pace and rushed ahead of Shen Ye.

Shen Ye was taken aback. He turned around and looked at her, then asked in a low voice, "Ms. Valentine, what do you mean by this?"

Jill had arrived at the door of a room and was using her family's superb lock-picking skills to open it. Hearing Shen Ye's words, she said irritably, "You looked like a rooster courting its mate just now."

A rooster courting...?

"It seems you've misunderstood me, Ms. Valentine, although you are stunningly beautiful." Shen Ye was both amused and exasperated, knowing that his earlier actions had led Jill to misinterpret the situation.

He wasn't trying to show off in front of Jill; he mainly knew that after the Alpha team split up at the mansion, their leader, Wesker, had been secretly monitoring them and might be following them right now.

Shen Ye didn't want to be shot in the back by Wesker, after all, to Wesker, he was a bug that had unexpectedly entered his script.

Clearly, Jill did not understand Shen Ye's meaning.

Shen Ye was too lazy to explain anymore. Seeing that Jill had unlocked the door, he extended his hand and made a gentlemanly gesture for Jill to come in.

In response, Jill rolled her eyes at him.

After entering the room, the two began to search it. Of course, compared to Jill, Shen Ye seemed uninterested. He just flipped through the room a few times and then stared at the ceiling with his gun in his arms.

He thought for a moment, walked to the door, opened the door that Jill had closed when he came in, and leaned against it while holding his gun.

Meanwhile, Jill made a new discovery: she found a fully loaded Remington shotgun in a display case in a small side room of the room.

"Shen, look what I found!" Jill waved the newly found shotgun at Shen Ye with delight from a room away.

But before she could enjoy her happiness for long, she suddenly heard a soft "click" sound in the room, which startled her.

"Did you hear that, Shen?" Jill asked Shen Ye.

“Of course.” Shen Ye nodded, patted the door he was leaning against, and said, “You probably triggered a mechanism in the room.”

"A mechanism?" Jill rushed out of the small room alertly, then peered into it, but nothing in the room had changed. There were no suddenly falling portraits, nor any suddenly cracked walls; it was just as it had been when they first entered.

“It seems… nothing has changed,” Jill said uncertainly.

"Indeed, nothing has changed. Looks like you're lucky; the mechanism failed." Shen Ye grinned.

"Is it?"

Jill glanced at the shotgun in her hand with a puzzled look, but she didn't think much of it, assuming that, as Shen Ye had said, the mechanism had malfunctioned.

So she left the small room satisfied. Although Shen Ye had already given her a shotgun, she didn't think it was too little.

As Jill passed by Shen Ye, she shoved the newly acquired shotgun into his arms.

“I’ll find you a rifle,” Jill said, and walked out of the room.

Watching Jill's departing figure, Shen Ye shook his head and followed her.

However, as soon as he left, the door he had been pressing down on suddenly slammed shut, followed by the sound of gears turning in the room.

The mechanism has been activated...

Jill, who was about to enter another room, was startled by the sound. She glanced at Shen Ye, who was walking over expressionlessly, and then at the room they had just been in. A thought suddenly flashed through her mind.

"He saved me."

"I almost turned into a sandwich."

Although Shen Ye cannot directly reveal the plot, he can still avoid some of the dangerous things that happen in the plot.

But this led Jill to conclude that he must know the mansion's secret.

Even after they had searched several rooms, Jill continued to ask questions relentlessly.

Shen Ye kept replying that he had just happened to see the functional diagrams of some of the mansion's mechanisms on a computer in another room.

Jill, of course, didn't believe it, and just as she was about to ask for the tenth time, her walkie-talkie suddenly rang.

A mature male voice came through the walkie-talkie: "Jill, where are you right now?"

Upon hearing this voice, Shen Ye knew who it was: Barry, the man Wesker had threatened with his family to make him a mole.

“I…I’m still inside the mansion. What about you?” Jill glanced at Shen Ye and answered, without revealing his presence to Barry.

“That’s good, Jill. Stay in the mansion and head to the cabin next to it. There are dangerous monsters there, don’t…” Barry’s words were cut off before the communication was finished.

Jill anxiously called Barry's name into the walkie-talkie a few times, but received no response. She resisted the urge to smash the walkie-talkie and cursed, "Damn it, I told you long ago, those procurement guys should be dragged out and shot."

Then he said to Shen Ye, "Shen, it seems there's been a problem with Barry. I think..."

She didn't need to say that at all, but the thought that Shen Ye might have just saved her made the respectable policewoman feel a little embarrassed.

"You want to find him, don't you?"

Jill nodded: "Of course, you don't have to go. I think it's safer to stay in the mansion."

Indeed, aside from the mechanisms that haven't been triggered yet, the zombies and BOWs in the mansion have been mostly dealt with, making this a very good place to stay.

However, how could Shen Ye give up the opportunity to travel with Jill? He patted his rifle and said, "I'll go with you. More people mean more strength, right?"

Next, the two prepared to leave the mansion and look for the location of the cabin.

In fact, they didn't need to search at all. As soon as they came out of the other exit of the mansion, they saw a narrow alley and then found that there seemed to be a small wooden house at the end of the alley.

Shen Ye knew something was there, so his expression turned serious at that moment. He began to check his guns and ammunition to make sure there wouldn't be any mistakes when a fight broke out.

Jill looked at him with some curiosity. Back in the mansion, Shen Ye had never been so serious and focused. Even when surrounded by zombies, he could calmly pull the trigger.

When Jill finally voiced her doubts, she received an unexpected answer:

"I don't want to be a male mother."

Chapter 8! The Gradually Changing Plot

"Men can't be mothers."

Suddenly, Jill felt she needed to help Shen Ye review his junior high biology, but after thinking about it, she still felt it wasn't the right time.

However, when Shen Ye took out all the bayonets from the simple scabbards on his legs and looked at them, Jill finally couldn't hold back anymore. She swung her fist at Shen Ye and stepped onto the path first.

They hadn't walked far along the path when a small wooden house came into view.

Then, they saw the "girl" wandering in front of the cabin, the experimental subject Lisa.

This poor girl has been tortured beyond recognition. Having lost most of her consciousness, she now has only one thought etched into her genes: to find her mother.

Shen Ye didn't know why Lisa didn't peel off Jill's face after knocking her unconscious in the game's storyline, but one thing was certain: it definitely wouldn't show him any mercy.

Sure enough, upon spotting the two, Lisa immediately rushed towards them, uttering the indistinct word: "Mom."

At this moment, Shen Ye didn't care whether Lisa was pitiful or not. It was already a monster. He decisively fired several shots at Lisa, but to no avail. Ordinary methods were simply ineffective in harming it.

Shen Ye revealed an expression that said, "I knew it," and shouted, "Jill, don't waste bullets, let's go!"

I only came here with Jill to find Barry; only a fool would waste ammo on this monster that can't be killed.

Jill nodded, but she was a little anxious because she didn't see Barry.

The two could only fight and retreat, but Lisa was impossible to kill, and for a time they couldn't shake off its pursuit.

Shen Ye was getting anxious because Lisa's target had always been him, and even though Jill had gotten closer to Lisa several times, she still hadn't changed her mind.

Jill noticed this phenomenon; she was even in the mood to joke while listening to Lisa's indistinct words.

"Shen, it's calling for your mother!"

Shen Ye half-squatted on the ground, fired a long burst of shots, glared at Jill in between shots, and stood up angrily, saying, "I don't want to be a male mother..."

Inside the villa of the Western-style mansion.

Shen Ye took a few deep breaths.

Jill, who was standing nearby, turned her gaze away from Lisa as she left through the window, took down her water bottle, and handed it to him.

"Thank you." Shen Ye didn't stand on ceremony, took the water bottle and poured it into his mouth.

After finishing most of the water, Shen Ye let out a long breath, wiped his mouth with his sleeve without any regard for appearances, and then returned the water bottle to Jill.
