"See this huge thing? While we're eating and sleeping, this huge thing is constantly draining our magic power, without stopping or holding back."

Barrett's tone was extremely angry, but looking at Shen Ye, who was deep in thought, and Claude, who seemed indifferent, he frowned, paused, and continued, "Do you know what Mako is? It's the blood of this planet, just like the blood in our bodies. If that's the case, what will happen if we keep extracting it like this?"

At this point, he suddenly pointed sharply at Shen Ye and Claude, and said loudly, "Didn't you hear the planet wailing? My brothers?"

The sound jolted Shen Ye out of his reverie. He looked at Barrett with a somewhat confused expression, then gave Jesse a bewildered look.

Jessie shrugged at him helplessly; she'd seen this kind of thing many times and was used to it.

Claude, however, remained indifferent as he looked at Barrett, even asking, "Can you hear me?"

"Of course!" Seeing that someone was finally paying attention to him, Barrett patted his chest forcefully: "I can hear the planet's painful wails all the time."

“Really? It’s a pity I can’t hear.” Claude said coldly. “I think you should see a doctor, and you should see the best ENT doctor.”

His words made Shen Ye and Jesse laugh out loud at the same time, and Shen Ye even thought that Claude was quite humorous.

However, Barrett became furious, as he was very dissatisfied with Claude's indifference.

“Don’t you care about our planet at all?” he yelled at Claude as he rushed up to him.

“Instead of worrying about the planet, worry about yourself.” Claude glanced at him. “For me, making money is more important, because money can buy food.”

“You…” Barrett was even angrier, but just as he was about to continue arguing, the elevator stopped.

Barrett could only snort coldly and walk out of the elevator.

As soon as they stepped out of the elevator, the automatic laser cannons mounted high up around them were pointed at them.

However, strangely enough, these laser cannons did not attack them.

"What's going on?" Jesse asked in surprise. She was mentally prepared to be attacked and was ready to jump away at any time to dodge the attack.

“Someone must be helping us.” Shen Ye glanced around and thought that Scarlett must have tampered with this place. After all, as the head of the weapons department, they were responsible for manufacturing all the weapons and equipment of the Shinra Corporation.

“It seems there are people within Shinra who are dissatisfied with the company.” Barrett didn’t think much of it, but instead excitedly waved his mechanical right arm: “Look, this is Shinra after losing the support of the people. They’ve done all sorts of bad things, and even their own people can’t stand it anymore.”

Then he shouted at Claude, "Hey, blondie, I suddenly think we should reconsider the hiring fee. You see, you haven't been very effective."

Claude calmly looked at Barrett, then drew his massive Destruction Sword, leaped high into the air, and with a few swift movements, dismantled the automated laser turrets into a pile of parts.

“That doesn’t count!” Barrett shouted.

But Claude ignored him and continued walking forward on his own.

“I won’t pay him the full amount.” Barrett said to Shen Ye and Jesse when Claude ignored him.

“That won’t do. The price has already been agreed upon and can’t be changed,” Shen Ye said to Barrett, then followed Claude.

“Yes, Shen is right, Barrett, we must be people of integrity!” Jesse said in a very serious tone.

Shinra's president's office.

"See that, Heidegger? Our automatic defense system actually let the enemy go. Why do you think that is?" The Shinra president interlaced his fingers, resting them on his chin, his eyes still fixed on the surveillance video.

Although his tone was calm and his aged face was expressionless, Heidegger, who came back in to report to him, still broke out in a cold sweat.

As the head of security for Shinra Corporation, he bears the greatest responsibility now that the Mako Reactor has been hacked but the automatic defense system has failed.

However, he quickly found a way to share his responsibilities.

“Mr. President, perhaps there’s a minor problem with the defense system. I think we should have Scarlett take some people to check it out.”

“Scarlett is busy with other things lately, don’t bother her.” How could the Shinra president not know what Heidegger was thinking? A cold smile immediately appeared on his lips.

"Stop making excuses for your dereliction of duty, Heidegger. What you need to do now is figure out how to get rid of these lowly rats."

"I'll do it right away, Mr. President." Heidegger wiped the sweat from his forehead and nodded.

Chapter 171! Directional Detonation

……

Inside Mako Reactor No. 1.

Shen Ye and his group arrived at the core of the Demon Furnace without any major incidents.

As soon as they entered, a powerful energy that had almost solidified rushed towards them.

“This is the core of the Mako Reactor.” Jesse glanced at the tablet in his hand again, but perhaps because the energy here was too powerful, the screen on the tablet began to show snow-like tearing fluctuations.

“The blood of the planet has condensed and taken shape here.” Barrett leaned on the railing and looked down. Beneath their steel land bridge was a bottomless, bluish-green liquid.

“It’s bottomless! If you fall from here, will you go straight into the interior of the planet?” Barrett continued.

"No, the Mako Reactor will just pump you up right away, like a water pump." Claude glanced at him and made a slight joke, but then, probably remembering his past experiences, his head started to ache again.

"I really can't laugh!" Barrett sighed, then walked down the overpass.

Behind them, Shen Ye and Jesse were still looking at the liquid below.

"Shen, what do you think will happen if we fall in?" Jesse looked at the bottomless Demonic Liquid, his expression somewhat dazed, and he felt an urge to jump in.

"If I'm lucky enough to survive, I can probably become as strong as that guy." Shen Ye pointed at Claude: "Shinra's special forces have all been soaked in Mako liquid, but the mortality rate is very high."

"Let's forget about it then. I don't want to die so soon." Jesse didn't think he was that lucky. He shook his head and followed behind Barrett and Claude.

"It's a pity, but you did die very young." Looking at Jesse's back, Shen Ye sighed, feeling a little sorry for the ending of this ponytail-wearing beauty.

However, now that he had come to this world, he didn't mind saving her. After all, it would be a pity for someone so beautiful to die like this.

Shaking his head slightly, Shen Ye began to look around, then took out several block-shaped objects from his system space...

"Hey! Shen, Jesse, come over here right now."

Barrett and Cloud had already descended the escalator to the platform at the center of the Mako fluid, and not far in front of them was the control center that controlled the operation of the Mako reactor.

“I’m so excited!” Barrett exclaimed, clenching his fist and shouting, “I’ve been waiting for this day for so long!”

"How do you plan to stop it from running?" Claude frowned as he looked at the agitated Barrett, who seemed to be the same chuunibyou (delusional) teenager he remembered.

“Of course, we’ll blow it up.” Barrett pulled a time bomb from the bag behind him. It was Jesse’s handiwork. Although it was very simple and just wrapped in duct tape, its power was not to be underestimated.

"Then give me the explosives." Claude kept the mercenary's ideals in mind and volunteered to install the explosives. After all, they hadn't experienced a single battle since entering the Mako Reactor, which made him feel a little embarrassed, especially since the reward promised was very high.

“That’s what I was thinking too.” Barrett had originally planned to have Cloud plant the explosives himself, because Cloud had always referred to himself as Shinra’s 1st Special Forces soldier, and although Tifa vouched for him, he still didn’t trust him.

Barrett then handed the timed explosives to Claude.

Claude weighed the timed explosive in his hand, then slowly walked towards the control center that operated the Mako Reactor.

However, he hadn't gone far when he heard a loud shout in the dead of night.

"Wait a minute, Claude."

Claude stopped and looked at Shen Ye running towards him, asking with some confusion, "Is there something wrong? Or do you want to plant the explosives?"

“Of course not.” Shen Ye shook his head. “On the contrary, I’m here to stop you.”

"Are you kidding me, Shen? We're already here, and you're saying you're stopping us from blowing up the Mako Reactor?" Barrett yelled at Shen Ye. If the other man hadn't saved his daughter, he probably would have attacked him directly.

“It’s not about stopping you from blowing up the Mako Reactor, but about stopping you from installing explosives here.” Shen Ye shook his head, then pointed to the Mako liquid below the platform and said, “This liquid contains enormous energy. If it’s really detonated, the chain reaction will be absolutely devastating, and could even harm people near Mako Reactor No. 1.”

"We can't worry about that now. For the fate of the planet, sacrifice is inevitable." Barrett waved his hand forcefully and said fiercely.

“You’re going too far, Barrett,” Shen Ye frowned. “This will cause ordinary people to resent your Avalanche.”

“Even if you dislike it, it doesn’t matter. This is a righteous cause.” Barrett looked at Shen Ye.

“Okay, even if it’s a so-called cause of justice, even if you’re thinking of the planet, I still think you can’t detonate here.” Shen Ye continued to shake his head. He had never agreed with Barrett’s ideas; he was practically no different from the extreme environmentalists in his world.

"So you're going to be our enemy?" Barrett raised his right arm toward Shen Ye, the rotary machine gun on it already spinning and warming up.

"No, what I meant was that we have other solutions that can disable the Mako Reactor for a short period of time," Shen Ye said.

"What's the solution?" Barrett asked, lowering his machine gun arm as he did so. After all, the other party was his benefactor, and he didn't want to ruin the relationship.

“That’s where the No. 1 Mako Reactor was buried,” Shen Ye said, pulling a remote control from his pocket.

“On my way here, I planted explosives under every support pillar, including here…” Shen Ye pointed to the spot where they came down, where there was a pillar supporting the top.

"These explosives ignite very quickly, releasing all their energy in an instant without producing any noticeable flames. Moreover, because they are placed under the support pillars, the explosion will only disrupt the stability of the Mako reactor's structure, causing it to collapse in a directional manner, and will absolutely not cause a chain reaction of explosions," Shen Ye explained to Barrett.

From the moment he entered, he began his own operation, which is why he always lagged behind the others. It wasn't out of fear, but to secretly plant the remote-controlled bomb he had made.

"Is this really okay?" Barrett was stunned after hearing Shen Ye's words.

"It will definitely work." Shen Ye has always been very confident in his explosives skills, and the explosives he is using now were obtained from the system space. They are extremely powerful and can definitely blow off the supporting parts of the Mako Furnace, turning the entire Mako Furnace into a pile of ruins.
