The Return to Hogwarts
Page 76
From the perspective of the contemporary wizarding world, Amostra is undoubtedly a powerful wizard in every respect. However, compared to the Hogwarts giants of a thousand years ago, or even Merlin, who had long since become a mythical figure, he was undoubtedly weak.
Weakness is the original sin. This is an irrefutable truth in both Muggle society and the wizarding world. It is useless to blame wizards who have long been swallowed by time and are already dead. If anyone is to blame, it is their own powerlessness.
The island of Avalon has slumbered in the embrace of death for over a dozen centuries, and throughout these long years, no one except the priests of the past has set foot on this mythical island.
With her arms wrapped around her knees, Vitia gazed towards the swamp, her eyes, still shimmering with a faint light, filled with lingering worry.
Based on what I've heard and the results of my investigation, Amosta Blaine seems to be a very powerful wizard, but this power needs to be highlighted in the context of the modern magical world. If we place him in the ancient magical era that has been mythologized, Amosta Blaine would not be so amazing.
Deep down, Vitia had always had doubts about her teacher's divination. She also couldn't understand why a wizard who had never been associated with Druidism was considered capable of helping them obtain the 'holy artifacts' mentioned in the records.
The reason for risking the exposure of Avalon Island to invite Amosta Blaine was actually more of a desperate act out of desperation.
A gentle breeze suddenly stirred in the deathly still air, causing the dust that had settled on the ground to dance and drift away into the unknown distance. Vitia gazed forlornly at the swirling dust, feeling that her fate was as insignificant as a speck of dust. No, how could a wind suddenly rise on Avalon Island? This place had been deathly still for over a dozen centuries!
Vitia gripped her grapevine wand tightly, startled and standing still. Suddenly, sensing something, she turned around abruptly and saw a slender figure walking steadily down from behind the rapidly dissipating time barrier, standing on the ancient altar on the ground, and walking towards her!
Seeing Vitia's open, crimson lips and bewildered expression, Amosta, exuding an aura of gloom, raised his twin serpent staffs—which had been severed from their connection with the earth and had now withdrawn their evil magic—and revealed a cold smile.
"Miss Clona, I have fulfilled my mission—"
When did Amosta Blaine enter the temple? How did he break through the time barrier that even the previous priests couldn't overcome? These questions became insignificant the moment Vitia saw the double serpent staff.
Give it to me.
She stared blankly at the scepter, her slender body trembling slightly.
For over a dozen centuries, the sacrifice of hundreds of priests and the deaths of countless followers have haunted them like a curse. The hatred that will never be forgotten surges like a tidal wave, making it impossible for Vitia to maintain the magical facade of peace.
"Give it to me!"
The glistening tears falling into the air reflected Vitia's hysterical despair, her beautiful face distorted by hatred.
Amosta's eyelids trembled slightly, and his heart fluttered slightly. However, he stopped in his tracks and did not move forward. His calm tone carried a hint of indifference.
“I have some doubts in my mind, Miss Clona. Unless you can resolve my doubts, I think it would be better for me to keep the scepter.”
Amosta's decisive refusal enraged Vitia. She raised her staff, its magic radiating a formidable power, as if she would not hesitate to kill Amosta Blaine if he refused to hand over the Twin Serpents Staff.
"The impulse of anger often drives us to do foolish things,"
Amosta remained unmoved.
“And foolish actions often come at a great cost. Miss Clona, do you want to prove this truth with your own actions?”
"Most wizards active in the underworld of Knockturn Alley consider you a wizard of integrity. Even putting that aside, we have a magical contract, Mr. Blaine."
Amosta's cold words were like a chilling wind, bringing Vitia back to her senses somewhat. Her reason was struggling against the horrific memories of the past, keeping her constantly on the verge of collapse.
"You need to hand over the Druidic artifacts in the 'Land of Merlin's Eternal Rest' to me. If you violate the contract, you will be severely punished. Even a wizard like you cannot withstand the backlash of the contract!"
"Magic follows rules, and I truly cannot escape the constraints of the contract—"
Amosta nodded slightly, agreeing with Vitia's assessment, but before Vitia could show any joy, he suddenly let out a cold snort.
"But there is a tiny, insignificant flaw in the contract, Miss Clona, and I regret that you have not noticed it."
"The Land of Merlin's Eternal Rest"—that is, the place where Merlin is finally buried. Where is his grave? Where is his body? Miss Cleopatra, if you cannot provide a reasonable explanation, then it means that this Staff of the Twin Serpents was only found on the Island of Avalon, and not in the Land of Merlin's Eternal Rest, regardless of whether it is a Druidic relic or not."
Looking at the druidic priest, whose expression was blank and stiff, and who was speechless with astonishment, Amosta, who was gloomy from the conspiracies, finally revealed a satisfied smile.
“You who always prefer to stay in the woods probably don’t realize how complicated the outside world is, Miss Cleopatra.”
Chapter 125: The End of the Secret Realm Chapter (Part 2)
As Amosta's words echoed through the empty temple hall, an inexplicable atmosphere of tension gradually filled the air. The two men stared at each other from fifty feet apart, both seeing an unyielding determination in each other's heterochromatic eyes. It seemed that a fierce conflict was inevitable.
Amosta remained indifferent. Although he was confident in his own strength, he was wary of Vitia, who had never fought a druid before, as he was also wondering if she might have some unimaginable tricks up her sleeve.
hiss--
Just as he was becoming more vigilant, the burning sensation in his palm startled him, and his expression changed drastically.
From the moment Amosta overcame the allure of the power to the moment Amosta severed its connection with the earth, the Twin Serpents Staff was just like an ordinary staff, without any resistance or strange phenomena occurring. Amosta easily pulled it out, and after obtaining it, the time barrier around the altar also dissipated. Everything was so simple that it was unbelievable.
But without any warning, the two basilisks opened their clear yellow snake eyes again, and an irresistible force suddenly surged from the cold staff, just like when they had repelled Gryffindor's grasp earlier.
In the nick of time, the prescient Amosta threw his twin serpent staff into the air, summoning a giant silver metal shield to shield himself.
The sudden change also took Vitia by surprise. She stared at the double serpent staff spinning in mid-air, hesitated for only a very short time, then cast aside her hesitation and, with a resolute determination, summoned the golden scepter into her hand.
The millennium-long vision was thus realized, leaving Vitia speechless and dazed. However, the transformation of the Twin Serpent Staff continued. Waves of chilling gray magic surged from within the golden staff, and the serpent monster with its eyes open clung to the golden staff, exhaling thick black smoke. The smoke then coalesced in mid-air into a deathly figure, staring down at the bewildered Vitia Clona.
Buzz--
A majestic hum resounded throughout the temple. Amosta's expression turned solemn. He suddenly remembered the scene he had seen in the mural: the lurking shadow that emerged from the body of the legendary black witch Morgan le Fay as she was about to be defeated by Merlin and King Arthur.
"Why—why did you do this?!"
The buzzing from the shadowy figure carried a revelation that Amosta couldn't comprehend. This revelation seemed to contain some unbelievable information, causing the bewilderment in Vitia's emerald eyes to gradually turn into disbelief and shock, and even to the point of questioning in a choked voice.
"What exactly did you hear?!"
The mysterious and bizarre scene unfolding in the empty temple hall caused Amosta to frown deeply, and he questioned Vitia sharply.
The druidic priestess seemed to have heard something utterly absurd. Her eyes were wide with astonishment, and her expression showed strong resistance to the revelation given by the shadowy figure emerging from the serpent staff. In response to Vitia's resistance, the shadowy figure's buzzing became even more intense, as if commanding her to carry out its absurd instructions.
"Tell me, what exactly is it saying!"
Although Amosta couldn't understand the ancient language that might be unique to druids, his keen intuition told him something was wrong. He raised his wand, ready to strike if Vitia didn't say a word.
Vitia gradually calmed down. She looked at Amosta, her eyes still filled with resentment, but for some reason, Amosta also sensed some apology in the woman's complex gaze.
"I don't know much more than you, Mr. Blaine. Anyway, thank you for getting it for us—"
As soon as she finished speaking, the shadowy figure that had completed its mission vanished into thin air. Before Amosta could react, the unmanned double serpent staff suddenly floated above Vitia's head, bursting out with a gray halo, and instantly teleported Vitia away from the temple, disappearing from sight.
"and many more!"
Amostah roared and rushed to where Vitia had just stood, attempting to use the residual magic in the air to pinpoint her location and Apparate to catch up. However, the chaotic magical magnetic field and spatial constraints within this secret realm were even greater than the Anti-Apparition Charm. Amostah's figure suddenly blurred, as if trying to squeeze into the air, but the next second, he was repelled.
"This woman!"
Amosta nearly erupted in anger, wanting to try locating the temple again. However, the temple suddenly began to shake violently, and the sudden feeling of weightlessness caused Amosta to lose his senses.
Wow!
"The secret realm is about to collapse!"
The space created by magic collapsed rapidly, and shocking cracks appeared on the earth. The world began to tilt in Amosta's eyes. All these signs indicated that this secret realm, which had existed for more than a thousand years, was about to collapse after the departure of the Twin Serpent Staff.
If he fails to leave before the secret realm collapses, he will most likely be banished to the chaotic void and never be able to return.
Thinking of this, Amosta dared not delay and prepared to leave the hall immediately, fly to the door leading to the secret realm, and leave. But as he took a step, he suddenly remembered something and his gaze pointed to the altar, landing on the silver sword that originally belonged to Gryffindor.
The once bustling Stonehenge Park fell silent in an instant. Hundreds of Muggles stared in disbelief at the few giant stones that had suddenly collapsed, and at the young man in a strange robe who suddenly emerged from the swirling dust. Their turbulent thoughts came to a standstill.
"Who are you? What have you done?"
The Muggle tour guide at the scenic spot, who was in charge of explaining the origins of Stonehenge, looked at the dusty, gloomy-looking young man and stammered, "What do you mean?"
Amosta glanced at the sun hanging in the center of the sky, radiating boundless light and heat, and his mind went blank for a moment.
He and Vitia entered the secret realm late last night and only stayed inside for a few hours at most, but when they came out it was already noon!
"What's the date today?"
Amosta looked at the Muggle guide and asked in a low voice.
"July 28th, sir."
"Has five days already passed? The flow of time in the inner and outer spaces is inconsistent?" Amosta muttered to himself.
Just then, a snow-white owl that had been circling high in the sky for several days swooped down and landed directly on Amosta's shoulder. It tilted its head and pecked Amosta's cheek hard, as if it had been waiting for quite some time.
Amosta ignored the whispering Muggles as he unfolded the letter, glancing at it only twice before fine lines appeared on his forehead.
"Thank you, little one, I understand now--"
Amosta smiled slightly at the snow-white figure and nodded in thanks.
cuckoo-
The clever owl pecked at Amosta's earlobe with its beak, urging him to hurry up and leave. Then it took flight and quickly disappeared from sight.
A commotion arose not far away as several Muggle police officers pushed through the crowd and rushed toward the damaged historical site.
Amostella turned and waved her wand, resetting the boulders that had lost their function. Then, with a slightly apologetic nod, she nodded to the bewildered Muggles.
"I apologize for interrupting your tour. I'll be leaving now."
P.S.: The next ten or so chapters will be used to resolve one or two foreshadowing elements planted earlier.
Chapter 126 The Abnormal Uncle Vernon
For the vast majority of young wizards from wizarding families, summer vacation is a wonderful time. At home, they don't have to worry about those boring magic classes. They can sleep in until noon every day, and after lunch, they can take out their flying brooms from the broom shed and soar freely over the lawns around the house, enjoying their leisurely vacation.
The assignments given by the professors at school wouldn't cause them too much trouble, since their fathers and brothers had all graduated from that school with passing grades, and guiding the young wizards through their holiday homework was a piece of cake.
In addition, wizarding families that are relatively well-off will take advantage of the summer holidays to take their children to visit famous historical sites in the magical world and broaden their horizons.
