“But we can prepare in advance,” Wade added. “If the situation becomes dangerous in the future, I hope you and Mom can move there first.”
"Silly child," Ferdinand smiled helplessly, "How could we possibly abandon you... and hide away alone in a safe place?"
“If I’m in danger, I’ll go too,” Wade said with a smile. “You know, wizards can apparite. I plan to learn that spell in my second year, so it’ll be easier to escape…”
I feel that the most readers chose option 2. I'll discuss it with the editor again, and if nothing unexpected happens, we'll change the name to this one.
I'll revise the cover two days later, so that regular readers won't have trouble finding it.
Thank you all for your kind suggestions; many of the names are excellent.
Chapter 107 Knight Bus
During the first week of summer vacation, Wade finished all his homework.
This was easy for him; all the necessary knowledge was in his head, and he could complete most of his papers without even needing to look through many books.
On the morning of the eighth day, Professor Morrie's son, Steven, appeared outside the door.
Since there were no pedestrians on the road at that time, he Apparated directly to the vicinity instead of emerging from the fireplace in the Wade house.
Early in the morning, there was a sudden knock on the door. Ferdinand opened the door and saw a tall man standing outside.
“Hello, Mr. Gray. I’m Steven Murray—is Wade there?”
The big guy flashed a cheerful smile.
"Of course...please come in."
Ferdinand stepped aside from the doorway, a hint of doubt in his eyes—
Most of the wizards he had ever met did not wear Muggle clothes, but the person in front of him was dressed very properly.
Steven Morey, Ferdinand had heard Wied mention this man.
For some reason, he always had the image of a chubby boy in his mind, but he actually looked like a basketball player.
"Hi Steven, long time no see."
Wade came downstairs and waved to greet him.
"Wade, I've come to pick you up and take you to the Tree Fern Manor."
Steven's smile instantly spread to the corners of his eyes. He said, "I guess you're ready?"
"of course."
Wade picked up the pencil case from the cabinet, put it in his pocket, said goodbye to his parents, and the two left the Gray's house together.
The cool morning light spilled across the streets, but most of the windows were still dark, and the thin mist made the distant street scene appear blurry.
“How do we get there?” Wade asked.
"Before I left, my father told me not to Apparate with you, lest something dangerous happen."
Steven raised his wand: "So there's only one choice—the Knight Bus."
With a loud bang, a three-story bus seemed to burst out of thin air, its headlights emitting a blinding glare.
"Won't such a loud noise wake up the Muggles?" Wade asked, startled and speechless.
“No. The car is protected by a shielding spell; Muggles generally can’t hear or see it,” Steven said.
"……generally?"
"Haha...you're really perceptive."
Steven couldn't help but laugh: "Occasionally, some Muggles will notice this bus, but they usually think they're seeing things."
"Welcome aboard the Knight Bus! Simply extend your wand and hop on, and we'll take you wherever you wish to go. My name is Stan Sampark, and tonight I'm your ticket seller—"
A thin young man leaned halfway out of the car door and rattled off a long opening monologue before seemingly noticing the two people waiting by the roadside.
"Please get in, you two. What are you waiting for?" Sampak said warmly.
"Wait and see when you'll give me a chance to speak... Eleven silver shiks each, right?"
Steven led Wade to the car, handing Sampark a Galleon and several silver scimitars.
"Would you like some chocolate, sir? Just two silver sicos per piece!"
Sampak asked loudly and slammed the door shut.
“No, thank you. Let’s go to the Cyathea Manor,” Steven said.
“Yes, sir!” Sampak responded loudly.
Wade surveyed the interior of the bus. Several beds with brass pillars were placed inside, and curtains were drawn on the windows. Candles were lit on shelves beside the beds, providing a dim light into the bus.
There was a passenger on only one bed.
The man was wearing an old nightcap and was covered tightly by the blanket, making only even breathing sounds. The ticket seller's loud voice seemed to have no effect on him at all.
"Go to sleep, Wade."
Steven chose a bed and lay down, warning, "This bus is very wild."
Wade heeded the advice.
Sampak raised an eyebrow: "Speed is a man's romance!"
“Thank you, but I wish this kind of romance could be a little gentler,” Steven retorted.
Before he finished speaking, the entire bus hopped like a frog and suddenly darted far away, almost causing Wade to fall off his bed.
He immediately pulled out his wand and cast a temporary adhesive spell on his clothes, finally preventing him from being jolted and swayed by the bus.
"Wow, student—you've violated the Ministry of Magic's rules!"
Sampak said, then chuckled to himself.
Steven asked, "Are you going to report this to the Ministry of Magic?"
Of course—no way!
Sampak pinched his mouth and said in a strange voice, "My mouth is as secure as if it were permanently glued on!"
The driver in front also said, "Sir, we have professional ethics—Sampac, don't joke around."
“Roger that, Ern!” Sampak raised his hand and gestured to his forehead.
Although the Knight Bus drove recklessly, it was going very fast, and soon arrived outside the Cyathea Manor.
Steven and Wade got out of the car together. The iron gate of the manor slid open silently and closed automatically after the two went inside.
Compared to ordinary Muggle manors, wizard manors are very quiet, because it would take at least fifty or sixty servants for a Muggle to maintain a manor of this size.
But wizards don't need that.
House-elves can do all the tedious work.
"Actually, I would like to invite you to my farm—the Cyathea Manor is a bit too quiet."
Steven said, "But my father said he would give you a few days of alchemy lessons first."
"Aren't you going to see Mr. Scamander?" Wade asked.
"Mr. Scamander gave me a two-week summer vacation."
Steven said happily, “After you finish your classes, we’ll go to the farm for a couple of days. After the holidays, we’ll go to Dorset—Mr. Scamander says he’d love to see you.”
Wade is also looking forward to it.
……
According to Steven, there are more than a dozen house-elves serving at Cyathea Manor, but Wade has never seen them.
The food here is also more varied than that in Hogwarts' dining hall.
Although the long tables in the school auditorium are always piled high, the food is usually served in large platters of roasted potatoes, steaks, roast chicken, cakes, and the like. It's not that the food isn't plentiful, but you get tired of eating it in the school cafeteria after a while.
The Cyathea Manor is different.
Professor Morrie traveled the world in his youth and still frequently travels to other countries to attend conferences, exchange alchemical products, and even disguise himself to attend Muggle product launches.
Therefore, he also introduced cuisines from various countries to the Cyathea Manor—Peking duck, Brazilian barbecue, Singaporean chili crab, Spanish ham, Mexican burritos…
The cafeteria's menu alone is a two-inch-thick booklet.
You can also order food.
Choose what you want to eat in advance, and your house-elf will silently deliver it to your table within half an hour.
At noon, Professor Morrie returned from outside. He didn't spend much time exchanging pleasantries before starting his lesson with Wade.
“You’ve already mastered all the basics of alchemy,” Professor Morrie said bluntly. “This summer, we’ll learn something special—bioalchemy.”
Chapter 108 Elves and Biological Alchemy
"Bioalchemy?"
For a moment, Wade thought of the walking Tin Can Man, then he recalled what he had learned from books: "Like the Sorting Hat and Wizard's Chess?"
Professor Morrie smiled.
