"An agent?" Professor Morrie shook his head disapprovingly. "An unreliable agent is more dangerous than no agent at all. Who is this person you've found? Do you know them before? Or are they related to your parents?"
“I don’t know him,” Wade said “honestly.” “I asked my father to place an advertisement in the newspaper, and he wrote a job application. After meeting him, my father thought he was a mild and reliable person, so he chose him as his agent—his name is Remus Lupin.”
Wade knew he didn't need to explain to his parents why he trusted a stranger—they would trust him without any excuse, as they had always done since childhood. But he needed a proper reason to explain it to Professor Morrie, to Dumbledore, and to everyone else in the wizarding world.
So Wade slightly reversed the cause and effect—it wasn't that he posted a job ad for someone, but rather that someone saw the ad, applied for a job, and was therefore hired.
“Remus Lupin?” Professor Morrie frowned slightly, his expression seemingly wistful, yet tinged with reminiscence.
"You know him?" Wade asked curiously.
“Hmm.” Professor Morrie lowered his eyes, his voice low. “He and his three friends were once prominent figures at Hogwarts, causing quite a stir at the school. Few people didn’t know them. It’s a pity…”
"--pity?"
“Some people died, some became traitors, that’s all—it happens all the time in wartime, nothing to talk about.” Professor Morrie changed the subject: “You said you arranged to meet him on Saturday?”
"Yes."
“I can approve it,” Professor Morrie said seriously, his fingers interlaced. “But I also need to be present.”
Chapter 84 [Danger] and [Danger]
“Professor?” Wade was somewhat surprised.
“Some people’s danger isn’t apparent on the surface.” Professor Morrie crossed his fingers, looked at Wade, and asked, “How much do you know about curses and contracts?”
Wade thought for a moment: "I've seen the Unbreakable Charm and the Loyal Charm in books. I've also studied the magical contract you made between me and Mr. Machione last time, but I haven't systematically studied this aspect yet."
He has only been studying magic for a short time, and there is so much for him to learn. Knowing that the coming years will be more chaotic and dangerous than the last, Vader's focus has always been on improving his survival rate.
He no longer placed his hopes for safety on anyone else, but desperately wished to have the ability to deal with any crisis.
Professor Morrie nodded, showing no disappointment.
—Or rather, discovering that there were still things Wade didn't understand gave him a sense of accomplishment as a professor.
Professor Morrie said, "The Unbreakable Curse is an extremely powerful oath, and the person who breaks it will die, so it is only used in extreme circumstances. Like a blood oath, it is an oath that ordinary people would not make even if they were willing to keep their promise. But let's leave that aside for now."
——Blood alliance?
A slight thought crossed Wade's mind.
"The Spell of Unwavering Loyalty is extremely complex and powerful. It's a magical spell used for secrecy, but choosing the person to keep the secret is crucial—if the person betrays, the spell is useless; if the person dies, everyone who learns the secret becomes the new person to keep it. Therefore, this spell places all hope on one person—"
Professor Morrie paused for a moment and said, "Harry Potter's parents died because of the wrong Secret Service agent."
Wade knew about this, but he still asked, "Who is that person—"
Sirius Black.
Professor Morrie slowly uttered the name with a tone of disgust, then said, "He was once best friends with James Potter, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew, but he betrayed them, leading to the deaths of the other two and his own imprisonment in Azkaban. The only one still active outside is Remus Lupin, but I haven't heard from him for many years..."
Wade nodded slowly: "Are you worried that he is a hidden dark wizard who might be a threat to me?"
"Not only that, he is also..."
—Werewolf.
Professor Morrie hesitated for a moment, then swallowed the word.
It's perfectly normal for a few Death Eaters to appear among the students; after all, almost all wizards in Britain have attended Hogwarts, and there's all sorts of people there. But if people knew that Dumbledore had recruited a werewolf into the school and had him live with the other children for seven years, even wizards who support Dumbledore would probably think he was insane.
But if Wade is unaware of this, he may also encounter danger.
Professor Morrie hesitated for a moment, then said, trying to conceal his meaning, "He is also someone you cannot approach on a full moon night—you are a smart child, you should understand what I mean."
Wade nodded and said frankly, "In our Defense Against the Dark Arts class the other day, Professor Quirrell talked about various treatments for being bitten by a werewolf, and I've learned about some of them too."
"Knowing all this, do you still want him to be your agent?" Professor Murray said. "You know, that means there's always an uncontrollable danger involved—if you need, I can introduce you to some reliable and safe people."
For a moment, Wade was genuinely tempted, because he knew that since Professor Morrie had said so, it meant he would use his own methods to verify the reliability of the person making the introduction.
After a moment's hesitation, Wade said, "I am very grateful, Professor. But I have already promised to give him this opportunity... It is a promise to me... Unless he is a bad person, I don't want to break it easily."
Professor Morrie was somewhat worried, but not surprised.
“In that case,” he said, beckoning several books to the reader, “we’ll pause our alchemy instruction today and talk about magical contracts—the most common way for unfamiliar wizards to build trust.”
……
Time flows by smoothly and silently like a gentle stream, and before you know it, it's Saturday.
It wasn't Hogsmeade weekend this week, and most students were sleeping in in their dormitories. Early in the morning, Vader got dressed, put on his blue scarf, and went to the Great Hall on the first floor.
It was extremely rare to see Professor Morrie also appear at the faculty table in the Great Hall for breakfast, which greatly surprised Professor McGonagall. She looked at him several times before cautiously greeting him, as if to confirm whether this Professor Morrie was someone else in disguise.
“Don’t be so strange, Minerva.”
Professor Morrie smiled and nodded at Wade, then said to Professor McGonagall, "I sometimes want to experience the vibrant atmosphere that children bring."
Wade bowed slightly to Professor Morrie and sat down at the long table. He then noticed that the plate in front of him had been replaced with his favorite food, along with a few familiar candies.
He picked up the candy and tasted it. It was sweet and refreshing, not cloying at all, just like the one his mother had sent him.
It seems that the house-pocket elf's culinary research has been very successful.
After breakfast, Wade went to the castle gate first. After waiting for a while, Professor Morrie came out and said with a smile, "The dishes in the Hogwarts kitchen are becoming more and more varied and delicious. I haven't been here for a long time, and it seems I've missed a lot of interesting changes."
Wade chuckled and casually remarked, "Aren't there some house-elves who aren't just doing their jobs, but are actually dedicated to studying cooking?"
“Interesting idea—very interesting—” Professor Morrie glanced at Wade and said, “Most people would assume that a wizard gave them a better recipe, rather than that house-elves would take the initiative to study cooking.”
"Why?" Wade asked, puzzled. "They have intelligence, rich emotions, and personal interests. Isn't it normal for them to work hard for them and make breakthroughs?"
Professor Morrie paused for a moment, then burst into laughter: "Wade, Wade... you may know a lot, but you grew up in the Muggle world... there are things that are common knowledge to others that you know nothing about—that's normal, perfectly normal—"
He patted Wade's head affectionately, looking at him as if he were a toddler learning to speak.
“House-elves have no self, Vader,” Professor Morrie said with a smile. “Or rather—house-elves with a self are…very dangerous to wizards, you should remember that, child.”
Chapter 85 Three Brooms
The conversation about house-elves didn't continue, because Heracles, riding a Thestral harnessed to a carriage, approached through the morning mist.
“Hello, Hagrid, thank you for arranging the carriage for us,” Professor Morrie said politely.
“It’s nothing, Professor!” Hagrid said cheerfully. “It’s a pleasure to help you—hello, child.”
He bent down to greet Wade.
“Good morning, Mr. Hagrid,” Wade said, looking up.
The gray eyes looked indifferent and serene, suddenly making the shallow impression in Hagrid's mind more concrete.
“Oh, you are…you are…Wade from Ravenclaw, right? Harry told me about you…” Hagrid looked at him curiously, then asked, puzzled, “Uh…you should be a first year?”
He looked at Wade, then at Professor Morrie, clearly somewhat troubled.
Professor Morrie smiled, but his tone left no room for doubt as he said, "Wade is my student, and I'm taking him to Hogsmeade to study alchemy."
Hagrid scratched his head.
Although he didn't understand why he had to go to Hogsmeade to learn alchemy... after all, he had only studied until the third year of school and hadn't even fully grasped the basics of magic, so how would he know what conditions were required to learn alchemy?
Hagrid hesitated for a moment, then refrained from further questioning. He patted Thestral's neck reassuringly, seemingly whispering something to it, and then said, "Professor Morrie, Wade, you can get in now. This boy will take you to Hogsmeade. He'll bring you back afterward."
"Okay, thank you, Hagrid."
Professor Morrie spoke politely, first boarding the carriage, then saying, "Come on up, Wade."
Once they were both seated, Thestrals, stepping through the thin mist and into the dawn light, creaked and groaned as the carriage pulled away from the school. Behind them, Hagrid forcefully pushed the massive oak door shut.
The Thestral would occasionally spread its black wings, as if it wanted to take flight, but in the end it remained quietly walking on the road.
"Can you see Thestrals?" Professor Mori asked suddenly, noticing where Wade's gaze was directed.
"Ah."
"Who did you see die?" Professor Morrie asked, then immediately added, "Oh, you don't have to answer if you don't want to."
“…He was a Muggle friend.” After a long pause, Wade finally said, “Years ago, he fell ill and died…I watched it happen, saw his parents in pain and despair, and there was nothing we could do…”
His eyes were dark and vacant, as if he were still immersed in the grief of that time.
Professor Morrie patted him on the back comfortingly and said softly, "I understand—the passing of a friend is like losing a part of yourself, but time heals all wounds... Perhaps your friend's parents have also moved on from the grief and even have new children."
"Hmm...maybe so..." Wade said softly, somewhat lost in thought, "I hope so..."
The carriage moved forward in silence, and Hogsmeade Village gradually emerged from the mist.
Because it wasn't Hogsmeade weekend, the small village was very quiet, with only two or three people in wizarding robes walking in the streets. From a distance, they could see the Three Broomsticks pub.
The tavern windows shone with a warm, orange light, making it appear cozy and bright. Through the glass, one could see a large crowd inside, suggesting that there were already quite a few customers early in the morning.
Wade jumped off the carriage and looked back.
“Go in, kid—I’ll be in two minutes.” Professor Morrie said from the car. “If all goes well, I won’t have to show up. But if that guy’s late, don’t hesitate, just fire him… Hmph, a mere werewolf… I’ll introduce you to someone better.”
The old man's protective and domineering words made Wade laugh out loud. He nodded and said, "Of course, I'll remember that, Professor."
Pushing open the door, the wind chimes tinkled as I entered. The tavern was brightly lit even early in the morning, and two hungover wizards lay slumped over the table, probably asleep.
A slender woman was standing at the bar, directing a rag to wipe the table herself. Upon hearing the sound, she immediately smiled warmly, but upon seeing that it was a student who was clearly undersized, she walked over with some surprise.
