after an hour.
Ding dong.
Doorbell rang.
The door opened, and a handsome middle-aged man in a suit appeared in the doorway.
“Hello, Mr. Parker,” Tony Stark greeted him with a smile, appearing friendly and not at all like the arrogant and treacherous capitalists one might expect from Spider-Man Noir.
“Hello, Mr. Stark,” Peter paused for a moment, then nodded and stepped aside to let Tony Stark in.
Tony Stark glanced at Peter with surprise.
He had been paying attention to Peter for quite some time. He had noticed Peter's existence around the time Peter gained his powers and started wearing his homemade baby suit to become the street hero Spider-Boy.
Then they easily discovered the true identity behind the Spider-Boy mask.
After gathering information about Peter's identity and determining that Peter's actions were simply the superhero impersonation of a teenager who idolized superheroes and wanted to become one, he stopped paying much attention to him.
He even helped Peter erase some traces to prevent him from being targeted by certain people and causing unnecessary trouble.
Therefore, although he didn't pay special attention to it, he still kept an eye out for and collected information about Peter.
The information he received did not include the word "composure" in his impression of Peter.
In fact, Tony Stark described Peter as: naive.
It's not even naive.
"How have you been lately?" Tony Stark asked abruptly after scrutinizing Peter for a moment.
“Well, that’s fine, Mr. Stark,” Peter said. “My name is Peter, you can just call me by my first name.”
“Okay, Peter, my name is Tony,” Tony Stark patted Peter on the shoulder. “Wow, what a strong and tough guy.”
“Mr. Stark, please come in and sit down,” Aunt May invited at the opportune moment.
Peter gestured for him to proceed again.
Tony Stark walked into the house, glanced around the living room, and sat down on the sofa.
Aunt May went to make tea, and Peter sat down next to Tony Stark.
"Mr. Stark"
"Call me Tony."
“Okay, Tony, so, what brings you here?” Peter asked in a low voice.
Tony scrutinized Peter: "It seems you already have a guess."
Peter nodded slightly: "The Sokovia Accords?"
He didn't ask silly questions like why the agreement was related to him or why Iron Man knew his identity.
In his previous speculation, if Iron Man came in person, then all of this was already based on the premise that he knew his identity.
“Yes, and not entirely,” Tony said to Peter with some surprise. “I hope you can sign the agreement, but the main reason I’m here is that I need your help.”
"They need me?" Peter was stunned. Could it be that he had guessed right? Because of Captain America's betrayal, Iron Man needed help to deal with them.
"Ahem," before Peter could finish his question, Tony coughed lightly and raised his voice, "I've already approved the September Fund, so Peter, when are you ready so we can talk about cooperation?"
"The September Fund? A collaboration?" Aunt Mei came out of the kitchen carrying tea and some pre-prepared snacks.
"Uh, I'm sorry, Aunt May, I really..." Peter knew this was Iron Man's excuse to cover his tracks, so he pretended to stammer.
Tony looked at Aunt May, stood up and took some things from her hands, and smiled, "Peter is a very good young man, and I look forward to working with him."
“Actually, I’m also looking forward to working with you, Mr. Stark,” Peter said in a serious tone, even changing his form of address.
From Theresa May's perspective, it's about the September Fund and grants, roughly about her nephew Peter applying for funding from a company like Stark Industries.
In fact, for Peter and Tony, Peter's words meant that he agreed to sign the Sokovia Agreement.
“Mr. Stark, may we discuss the details of our collaboration in more detail?” Peter said.
Tony smiled slightly: "Of course, Mr. Parker."
“Aunt May.” Peter looked at Aunt May.
Aunt Mei gave him a fist pump to encourage him, and mouthed, "Go for it!"
"Ok!"
Peter and Tony got up and walked toward Peter's room.
"What is this, retro technology?" As soon as Tony entered the room, he was attracted by a large CRT computer on the table.
Peter glanced at it and saw that it was indeed a computer. He had assembled it himself from a bunch of parts he found at a junkyard. It was mainly used to debug the web emitter, so he had made a lot of ports on the back of the computer, making it look a bit bulky.
“In fact, it is quite retro.” Peter felt a little embarrassed to have his idol see these things.
Tony chuckled to himself, finally finding a hint of the kind of expression a kid his age should have in this pretentious little brat.
That's right, he had just thought about it carefully and realized that Peter was just pretending to be profound.
After all, before he came today, his intelligence indicated that Peter was still that naive kid.
No one grows up overnight.
Even if there was one, it must have been a major turning point in their life.
But everything was fine for Peter, just like before. Where did the "forced ripening" conditions come from?
“Even though you seem to have admitted it, I still want to confirm. Is that you, Peter, wandering the streets in baby pajamas?” Tony took out his phone and opened a video.
"Yes, it's me, but those aren't baby pajamas, they're my battle suit, just like your Iron Man armor!"
"You call this thing a battle suit? Hahaha!" Tony slapped his thigh and laughed.
Peter looked at him with some annoyance.
"Ahem, I didn't mean to laugh at you," Tony said seriously, taking the initiative to apologize, "Haha, but I couldn't help it."
“…” Peter said somewhat helplessly, “Tony, I think we can forget about the baby sleeping, oops, the suit, and talk about the Sokovia Agreement and the matter of you asking me for help. I think that’s the real reason you came here.”
“Yes, that’s right, the Sokovia Accords are…” Tony explained the general contents of the Sokovia Accords to Peter, since it was a prerequisite for his joining.
Peter also wanted to know the full picture of the agreement.
Although he also believes that these people with superpowers need to be disciplined to some extent, he finds it unacceptable if the discipline is too strong.
Moreover, influenced by his experience as Spider-Man Noir, he doesn't have much hope for the integrity of those in power.
He didn't want to unwittingly become a tool for others to profit from.
Chapter 9 The Sokovia Agreement
The content of the Sokovia Agreement is actually quite simple and straightforward; on the surface, it is similar to what Peter had previously learned from television.
The agreement stipulates that the Avengers will no longer be a single organization, and all actions of its members will be supervised by a special team under the LHG, and they can only act when the special team deems it necessary.
“This agreement is not bad, but I mean, if, for some reason, the task force wants me to go, but I don’t want to go, do I have the right to refuse?” Peter looked at Tony and asked a question.
Toby paused for a moment, then shrugged: "Of course, no problem. The task force only has supervisory authority and can't let us act on our own, but they can't order us to do things we don't want to do."
Peter nodded.
"I understand, I agree to this agreement."
Signing this agreement means he will lose something; for example, his information will be entered into a file, and he may even be frequently monitored.
But it's really nothing.
These things already existed after they learned his true identity.
Even though Thor is as powerful as he is, and he is not even from Earth, his file is still recorded.
Compared to these, Peter values autonomy more.
This allows him to do what he wants according to his own will when he feels that certain behaviors are inappropriate.
Instead of becoming someone else's tool and being used by them.
In fact, the Sokovia Accords are a law that only applies to people with superpowers.
Ordinary laws restrict ordinary people, while super laws restrict superhumans.
That makes perfect sense.
Peter also wanted to protect his Aunt May.
If all superhumans could sign the Sokovia Accords, refrain from abusing them, and even use them for the benefit of others, then his Aunt May wouldn't have been harmed by such a guy.
Of course, he also knew that this was just a vision.
There will never be a shortage of ambitious speculators in this world.
This is true no matter what kind of world it is, or what era it is in.
All Peter can do is protect the people he cares about as much as possible.
Hearing Peter's affirmative answer, Tony smiled and said, "Good, kid, I knew you were right."
“So, Tony, can you tell me what you need my help with?” Peter asked.
