“We’re not here to threaten you,” Hua Jiaming said. “We’re just here to give you a chance to choose. You can choose to be wanted, or you can choose to cooperate. Think it over carefully.”
After speaking, Hua Jiaming and Chen Ran prepared to leave. They knew they needed to give Li Ming some time to make his own choice. As they walked out of the villa, the mysterious man was already waiting at the door.
"How did your talks go?" the mysterious man asked.
550 “He needs time to think it over,” Chen Ran said. “We’ll wait for him outside.”
The mysterious man nodded. "Hopefully, he will make a wise choice."
The three of them returned to the car, awaiting Li Ming's decision. Time seemed to slow down, each second filled with tension and unease. They didn't know what choice Li Ming would make, and could only silently pray that he would choose to cooperate.
After a long while, Li Ming finally walked out of the villa. His face was somewhat pale, but his eyes revealed a determined light.
“I’ve made up my mind,” Li Ming said. “I choose to cooperate.”
Chen Ran and Hua Jiaming both breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that this decision was not easy for Li Ming.
“Very good, you’ve made a wise choice,” Chen Ran said. “We will protect your safety and arrange a new identity and residence for you. However, you must fully cooperate with our investigation and expose everything you know about the criminal group.”
Chapter Seventy: I Want to See My Daughter
"I agree to your conditions," Li Ming said, "but I have one request."
"What are the requirements?" Hua Jiaming asked.
“I want to see my daughter,” Li Ming pleaded. “I haven’t seen her in a long time. She is my only daughter, and I miss her very much.”
Chen Ran and Hua Jiaming exchanged a glance. They knew this was a reasonable request, but also a test. If they agreed to Li Ming's request, it meant they needed to trust him and believe he would keep his promise.
“We will arrange a meeting between you,” Chen Ran finally said, “but you must abide by our agreement and there must be no betrayal.”
Li Ming nodded gratefully, "I will definitely abide by the agreement and will not let you down."
So, with the help of the police, Li Ming met his daughter.
Li Ming and his daughter met in a quiet coffee shop. His daughter had grown up, becoming graceful and beautiful. Her large eyes were filled with tears, but they didn't fall.
"My child, you've suffered so much," Li Ming said with heartache. "It's all my fault; I haven't fulfilled my responsibilities."
The daughter didn't speak, only silently wept. She didn't know what to say, nor how to face the father who had abandoned her.
“I know I was wrong, I shouldn’t have gone down that path,” Li Ming continued, “but I hope you can forgive me, and I will spend the rest of my life making up for what I owe you.”
The daughter finally spoke, her voice trembling, "Why did you do this? Why did you betray me and Mom?"
“I confess my guilt,” Li Ming said frankly. “I betrayed you, and I betrayed myself. But I now realize my mistakes, and I hope to receive your forgiveness.”
The daughter was silent for a moment, then said, "I don't know whether I should believe you or not. You've already betrayed us once, how can we still trust you?"
“I know you have reasons not to believe me,” Li Ming said sincerely, “but I promise to prove my change through my actions. I will fully cooperate with the police investigation, expose the criminal group, and pay the price for my mistakes. I hope to regain your trust.”
The daughter didn't answer, but a hint of softening appeared in her eyes. She knew that although this man had once been her nightmare, he now seemed genuinely interested in changing.
“I will give you and Mom a completely new life,” Li Ming continued. “I will do everything I can to make up for the hurt you have suffered. Please believe me, I will spend the rest of my life proving my sincerity.”
The daughter finally couldn't hold back her tears. She threw herself into her father's arms and sobbed uncontrollably. Although she was filled with resentment and incomprehension about her father's past, she was now slowly beginning to accept the facts and try to forgive and believe.
After resolving these matters, Chen Ran returned to his residence, took a hot shower, and then went to a karaoke bar with his best buddies.
As soon as Chen Ran entered the KTV, he was surrounded by a group of people. It turned out that his good buddies had already arrived. They welcomed him loudly and then went into the private room together.
The private room was bustling with activity, the music was deafening, and everyone was singing, drinking, and chatting to their hearts' content. Chen Ran's good brothers were all his former classmates from police academy; they had a deep bond and had always kept in touch.
"Chen Ran, you're finally here!" a burly man shouted. "Tonight we're going to have a good drink, and we won't leave until we're drunk!"
“Sure, no problem!” Chen Ran readily agreed.
They ordered several cases of beer and began to drink heartily. Music and singing filled the private room, and everyone was in high spirits. Chen Ran felt his troubles temporarily forgotten, and he started singing, dancing, and joking with everyone.
Just then, the door to the private room was suddenly pushed open, and a beautiful girl walked in. She was wearing a red evening gown, with long hair flowing over her shoulders, and looked absolutely stunning.
"Who is this?" one of the brothers asked.
"I don't know them either," Chen Ran said. "They're probably other guests."
But the girl walked straight up to Chen Ran and asked, "Are you Chen Ran?"
"Yes, that's me," Chen Ran replied, somewhat surprised. "Who are you?"
“I am Hua Jiaming’s younger sister, Hua Xiaoyu (Li Li’s).” The girl introduced herself. “My brother asked me to come find you. He said you need help.”
Chen Ran was stunned. He hadn't expected Hua Jiaming to send his sister to find him. He glanced at his brothers present and said somewhat awkwardly, "You guys have fun first, I'll be back in a bit."
Chen Ran followed Hua Xiaoyu out of the private room and into a quiet corner of the corridor.
"Thank you for coming to see me," Chen Ran said, "but your brother didn't tell me what you need me to do."
“My brother said you’re investigating a case and need to gather some information,” Hua Xiaoyu said. “He asked me to help you collect some data and also to protect your safety.”
Chapter 71: Hua Jiaming's Concealment
Chen Ran frowned; he hadn't expected Hua Jiaming to do this. He began to suspect Hua Jiaming's motives, but he didn't want to ask directly.
“Okay, I’ll do my best to cooperate with you,” Chen Ran finally said, “but I need to understand more details first.”
“No problem, I will tell you all the information I know,” Hua Xiaoyu said. “But I need your help to complete my task.”
So, Chen Ran and Hua Xiaoyu began to work together. They investigated cases and gathered intelligence together, while also exchanging some personal information. Although Chen Ran still had some doubts about Hua Jiaming's motives, he found that he and Hua Xiaoyu got along very well, and feelings gradually developed between them.
After working together for some time, Chen Ran and Hua Xiaoyu successfully solved the case. They exposed the crimes of the criminal group, brought the criminals to justice, and received commendation from their superiors. At the victory celebration banquet, Chen Ran and Hua Xiaoyu sat together, smiling at each other.
“Your brother is a good person,” Chen Ran said. “I am very grateful for his help.”
“Yes, he is very outstanding,” Hua Xiaoyu said with a smile. “But don’t try anything with him; he is my own brother.”
Chen Ran smiled but didn't speak. He understood that his feelings for Hua Xiaoyu were special, but there was no possibility of them developing further. He respected Hua Xiaoyu's decision and also respected her sibling relationship with Hua Jiaming.
As the celebratory banquet drew to a close, Chen Ran and Hua Xiaoyu walked out of the hotel together. A gentle night breeze blew by, and countless stars adorned the dark sky, as if twinkling in celebration of their victory.
"Hua Xiaoyu, I think we should say goodbye now," Chen Ran suddenly said, a hint of reluctance in his eyes.
Hua Xiaoyu stopped and looked at him. "Are you saying you don't need me anymore?"
Chen Ran nodded. "Yes, the case has been solved, and I don't think we'll have any more opportunities to cooperate."
Hua Xiaoyu was silent for a moment, then smiled and said, "I understand. However, I hope we can meet again in the future."
"Of course, we're still friends," Chen Ran said with a smile.
The two stood by the roadside, waving goodbye. However, just then, a black sedan suddenly sped up and stopped beside them. The door opened, and inside was none other than Hua Jiaming.
"Brother, what are you doing here?" Hua Xiaoyu asked in surprise.
"I heard you solved the case and wanted to come and congratulate you," Hua Jiaming said with a smile.
"Your information network is really impressive," Chen Ran exclaimed.
“I have my own channels,” Hua Jiaming said mysteriously with a smile.
Hua Jiaming invited everyone to a bar to celebrate, so the group set off in high spirits. At the bar, they drank and laughed, celebrating their victory. Chen Ran discovered that Hua Jiaming was not only an excellent policeman but also adept at creating a relaxed atmosphere. Like Hua Xiaoyu, he possessed a charm that made people feel comfortable and at ease.
However, just as the celebration reached its climax, the lights in the bar suddenly went out, plunging the place into darkness. Everyone gasped in surprise, wondering what had happened.
"Don't panic, everyone. This is a surprise I've prepared for you all," Hua Jiaming said loudly. "Please follow me."
He led everyone to a corner of the bar where a huge cake was displayed, with the words "Congratulations on solving the case" written on it. Hua Jiaming explained that he had specially prepared it for Chen Ran and Xiao Yu.
Everyone applauded, delighted by this unexpected surprise. Chen Ran looked at Hua Jiaming and couldn't help but think that this man not only excelled at work but was also a very interesting person in life.
"Alright, now let's all sing a birthday song for my little sister, Xiaoyu," Hua Jiaming suddenly said.
Everyone was stunned for a moment before realizing that it was Hua Xiaoyu's birthday. They all sang "Happy Birthday" to her, and Hua Xiaoyu was so moved by this unexpected surprise that she shed tears.
"Thank you, brother," Hua Xiaoyu said excitedly. "This is the happiest birthday I've ever had."
"You're welcome, little sister," Hua Jiaming said with a smile. "As long as you're happy."
In the pitch-black night, amidst the laughter of the crowd, Chen Ran fell into deep thought. He had been observing Hua Jiaming, this enigmatic man. Not only had he demonstrated outstanding performance at the police station, but his wisdom and decisiveness throughout the investigation had also deeply impressed Chen Ran. However, what puzzled Chen Ran even more was how much more Hua Jiaming was unaware of.
Just as Chen Ran was deep in thought, Hua Jiaming walked over and patted him on the shoulder. "Chen Ran, what are you thinking about? Come on, let's have a drink."
Chen Ran snapped out of his daze, looked at Hua Jiaming, and smiled. "Officer Hua, I have some questions for you."
A hint of doubt flashed in Hua Jiaming's eyes, but it quickly disappeared. He smiled and replied, "What's the problem?"
"I'm curious, how did you know we'd be celebrating here tonight? And how much do you actually know about this case?" Chen Ran looked directly into Hua Jiaming's eyes, his tone firm.
Hua Jiaming was silent for a moment, then put down his wine glass. "Alright, I admit, I've been hiding some things."
Chapter 72: The Person I Least Want to Let Down in This Life
My sister called me earlier to tell me you were celebrating here tonight. As for the case, I don't know much, but I do know some information you don't.
"What information?" Chen Ran pressed.
Hua Jiaming smiled mysteriously, "I can't say what I know, but my sister can."
"What do you mean?" Chen Ran was a little confused.
“My sister knows some details about the case, but she hasn’t told you before. I think she might be trying to get you to ask her about it through this celebration,” Hua Jia-ming explained.
Chen Ran was deeply moved upon hearing this. It turned out that Hua Xiaoyu had deliberately left some clues, wanting him to discover them himself. He suddenly realized that he knew too little about Hua Xiaoyu; perhaps she held many secrets unknown to others.
