"Avada Kedavra".
As the green light faded, Little Barty's pale face still bore the lingering shock, an expression of disbelief that remained.
How could it be Avada Kedavra?
Barty Crouch the Elder calmly gazed at the body on the ground, then turned and walked upstairs back into the living room.
Li Lin flipped through the newspaper and chuckled.
Some wizards have begun to realize that the Galleons they possess are starting to become "worthless".
Of course, these wizards didn't know what had happened. They were just complaining that prices in Hogsmeade Village were rising: a cup of butterbeer used to cost two silver sieves, but now it cost six silver sieves, and even the ticket for the Knight Bus had gone from 11 silver sieves to one galleon!
This is nothing short of a huge shock to the magical world, where prices haven't risen in ages.
These wizards were unaware that their Galleons, stored in Gringotts, would be completely turned into pebbles within a single month.
Li Lin continued flipping through the newspaper. He saw that Grindelwald had begun to publicly issue a new magical currency, the Gold Pound, to replace the original Galleon. At the same time, he reformed the currency's value, stipulating that one Gold Pound was equal to 10 Sickles and one Sickle was equal to 10 Nats.
As soon as this new monetary system was implemented, it was met with opposition from many wizards. Originally, one Galleon could be exchanged for nearly five hundred Bronze Nats, but now it could only be exchanged for one hundred, which is equivalent to a reduction in value of one-fifth.
Compared to the original monetary system, the gold pound system was naturally quite unpopular, and only the countries surrounding Durmstrang were forced by Grindelwald's power to reluctantly adopt this system.
The Daily Prophet ridiculed Grindelwald's behavior with scathing satire, undoubtedly indicating that Gringotts was behind it.
These fairies, who had suffered a loss, wouldn't let any opportunity to annoy Grindelwald slip by.
Therefore, the sudden massacre of the Crouch family was a good opportunity to divert the wizarding world's attention, allowing wizards to shift their focus from the economic tsunami to the case of "Tom Riddle's return."
Li Lin stood up, tucked the newspaper under his arm, and instructed Old Barty Crouch, "Any other rare magical items? Bring them out."
“No,” Barty Crouch the Elder replied calmly. “I handed over all those ancient dark magic artifacts to the Ministry of Magic in my quest for power.”
“That’s truly pathetic.” Li Lin nodded. “Use the Killing Curse to end your own life.”
He turned and walked toward the door, and behind him he heard a loud thud as something heavy fell to the ground.
The Crouch family, one of the Twenty-Eight Pureblood Families, is expelled today.
Lucius opened his tear-filled eyes and could feel that the protective spell surrounding the Crouch family mansion had disappeared.
This protective spell exists based on blood ties, and it loses its power when the last direct descendant of a family dies.
The sound of footsteps came from far to near.
Lucius wiped away his tears and saw Li Lin standing in front of him with a newspaper between his fingers, gently patting him on the shoulder.
"Now it's your turn. Cast the Dark Mark."
Ignoring the pain in his eyes, Lucius stared at Li Lin in astonishment, realizing that Li Lin's actions were not a spur-of-the-moment decision, but rather something deeply meaningful.
In a flash, Lucius obediently stepped back a few paces, raised his cane, and pointed it toward the sky above the Crouch family mansion.
"Morsmordre."
A colossal green skull floated in the sky, surrounded by countless emerald-like stars. A giant serpent emerged from its mouth, coiling endlessly along the void around the skull.
“Well done, Mr. Lucius. Have a nice weekend.” Li Lin waved to him while holding the newspaper, then vanished in a golden-purple beam of light.
Lucius snapped out of his daze, looked around to make sure no one was there, and then used Apparition to quickly leave.
It wasn't until several hours later that the first wizard to see the Dark Mark let out a heart-wrenching scream.
......
At the entrance to Hogwarts, Li Lin flipped open his pocket watch; it was 2:05.
Professor McGonagall was strolling at the castle gate when she saw Li Lin. She casually asked, "You seemed to have used a teleportation spell to go somewhere just now, Mr. Aatrox."
"You may not know this, but the use of the Transformation Charm is forbidden at Hogwarts, not even by the Headmaster himself."
Li Lin waved the newspaper in his hand: "I went to Diagon Alley, Professor McGonagall."
The headlines about soaring prices were prominently displayed in the newspapers.
McGonagall didn't suspect anything. Prices in the wizarding world had recently started to rise, and it was reasonable for Li Lin, as the owner of Diagon Alley, to take some time to go there to handle some business.
Besides, what can be accomplished in five minutes?
104 I'm coming in, Voldemort
The door to Li Lin's room was pushed open, and Dumbledore, wearing a pointed wizard's hat, appeared in the doorway. His expression was indifferent, and it was impossible to tell what he had come for.
"You seemed to have Apparated outside of school the day before yesterday afternoon, Mr. Aatrox..."
Dumbledore's gaze shifted downwards, fixing on Li Lin, and he gasped, "Why aren't you wearing pants? What are you doing?"
Li Lin, his hands still busy, replied impatiently, "I'm oiling the crowbar."
Although Jing Shen has become a part of his body, it still needs maintenance.
Dumbledore took a deep breath, turned around and left Li Lin's room, closing the door behind him and leaning against the wall.
"I hope... you can resolve your personal needs soon, I have something I want to talk to you about."
Ten minutes later, Li Lin put on his pants, feeling refreshed, and went out, only to find that Dumbledore was no longer there. There was a note on the door that read, "Please go to the Headmaster's office. The password is Lemon Snowball Candy."
Li Lin walked with his thoughts wandering to the living statue, said the command, and then went up the spiral staircase to the principal's office.
The office door was wide open, and portraits of past headmasters stared at the unfamiliar visitor with open eyes. Dumbledore sat behind his large desk, sunlight streaming through the west window onto his beard, making him look like a luminous statue. Fawkes the phoenix flapped its wings, curiously looking at the visitor.
Li Lin walked into the office with his hands behind his back, looking more like the principal than the principal himself.
“Oh, a real wizard. I suppose he must be from Slytherin.” The portrait of the fourth headmaster, Phineas Nigellus Black, opened its eyes and looked down at Li Lin.
This was the first headmaster to graduate from Slytherin; by lineage, he was Sirius Black's great-great-grandfather.
Of course, he was also the most unpopular headmaster at Hogwarts.
Dumbledore rose from his seat and walked toward Li Lin.
Li Lin brushed past him, plopped down in the principal's seat, and then slumped into the soft, high-backed magic chair.
The group of portraits of the principals behind them suddenly fell silent, then burst into a cacophony of voices comparable to that of five hundred ducks.
No one had ever been so arrogant, either during their lifetime or after their portraits were created.
Dumbledore didn't argue about such details, knowing that arguing with Li Lin would not end well.
“Mr. Aatrox, you are a member of the Hogwarts Board of Trustees and the newly appointed Vice-Headmaster…” He carefully chose his words, “so I must remind you that Hogwarts prohibits any wizard from Apparating. Only house-elves and Fawkes can use their magical talents to move.”
"I'm reminding you of this because two days ago, the Crouch family, one of the twenty-eight pure-blood families in the wizarding world, was wiped out."
Dumbledore observed Li Lin's expression. "Lucius is furious because the Dark Mark is floating above Crouch's mansion."
"I think......"
"That's enough," Li Lin said maliciously, raising his legs and putting them on the desk. "Yes, I did it, I did it all."
"I blew up Azkaban, I planted Grindelwald, I lured Voldemort out, and I killed the Crouch family. I am the third Dark Lord."
Dumbledore's soft white beard trembled; he certainly didn't believe that Li Lin had done these things.
In his eyes, Li Lin was just a kind-hearted wizard who deeply loved his wife but was driven somewhat mad by it.
This young wizard, who possesses immense wealth, has emotions more intense than fire and a heart more sensitive than thin ice.
Therefore, Dumbledore simply took these words as angry words spoken by Li Lin in a fit of rage. The more Li Lin acted this way, the more Dumbledore believed that he had nothing to do with the Crouch family.
Moreover, Li Lin used Apparition outside of school at 2 PM. He returned from Diagon Alley at 2:05 PM, still holding the day's issue of the Daily Prophet... Five minutes wouldn't even be enough to break through Crouch's mansion's defenses, let alone face a fully armed Barty Crouch the Elder and house-elves. It's completely unrealistic.
"Please calm down, Mr. Aatrox. I have no doubts about you."
Dumbledore said gently, “But we all know this is a very bad thing, and Voldemort’s influence is still far away. We found one of his Horcruxes this morning, and this afternoon he was gathering his followers.”
"No matter how much we don't want to admit it, the extermination of a pure-blood family that has long been recognized by the public will affect the thinking of the vast majority of wizards."
“Mr. Aatrox, we need to speed up our search for the Horcrux.”
“Don’t even think about it,” Li Lin scoffed. “The remaining Horcruxes are either in Gringotts’ vault, in a cave with many obstacles and ambushes, or they might even be Harry Potter himself.”
Li Lin looked at Dumbledore, whose expression was gradually becoming serious: "Think carefully, should we kill Harry Potter now?"
......
After returning to his room, a dark green tabletop silently rose in front of Li Lin, sweeping across his living space.
No trace of any spell was detected, which may indicate that Dumbledore did not cast any surveillance spells here... But thinking about it, it makes sense; if Hogwarts were filled with surveillance cameras, the professors would be the first to object.
Li Lin restored the diary from its card form and placed it on his desk.
To be fair, Mr. Li was very interested in this diary. After all, this diary contained Tom Riddle's memories of his student days, and they could even communicate with each other by writing in the diary.
Li Lin, who was desperately looking for a new target to harm, was already itching for more.
Li Lin picked up a quill pen from the side, dipped it in ink, and wrote a line in his diary.
"Muscular hunk looking for a sexy bottom online."
The ink slowly faded away.
"?"
A moment later, a huge question mark appeared on the slightly yellowed pages of the diary.
Perhaps realizing that his actions were detrimental to the Dark Lord's wise image, the question mark on the diary quickly disappeared, and a new line of text appeared.
