The formation was torn open with a huge gap, and the remaining officers were all thrown into panic by this completely unexpected incident.
"Starlight" gracefully landed on the ground, turned to look at Gin, as if she were a ballet dancer who had just completed a beautiful dance.
“Then, please,” she said with a smile.
"Now, the roles are reversed."
Chapter 74 Blood Stained Tokyo Bay
Ten minutes ago.
Amuro Tooru moved his crosshair away from "Miyano Akemi's" forehead in the warehouse and answered the phone.
"Hey."
"Hello? Mr. Furuya." It was Yuya Kazami on the other end of the phone. "I've arranged everything you requested. The Metropolitan Police Department's Special Tactical Operations Team is on its way."
"They're expected to arrive at the dock in five minutes—should I postpone their arrival?"
The roar of a car engine filled the air, and through a high-powered sniper scope, Amuro Tooru saw the iconic Porsche 356A parked in the alley opposite the dock.
"No need, the timing is perfect."
“Okay, do you need me to go with them, Mr. Furuya?”
Amuro Tooru thought for a moment, recalling how Gin had escaped before: "You come too. I can't leave, so you can take over command of the tactical squad for me."
"it is good."
"..."
After hanging up the phone, Amuro Tooru repositioned his sniper rifle and observed the actions of both parties in the warehouse.
The view here is excellent; although you can't hear the conversations inside the warehouse, you can see all the actions clearly.
The task "Starlight" gave him was to fire a shot the instant Gin made his move to distract Gin and allow her to fake her death.
He didn't intend to do anything underhanded—he wanted to keep the other person alive as much as possible before ensuring that "Starlight" wouldn't leak information after his death.
So, at the same moment that red blood burst from "Akami Miyano's" chest, the trigger was pulled.
The bullet was naturally aimed at Gin's back—Amuro Tooru never shows mercy to dangerous criminals.
But Gin seemed to have eyes in the back of his head; the moment the bullet left the barrel, he suddenly turned to the side, narrowly dodging the whistling sniper bullet.
After the fatal missed shot, it was too late to pull the bolt back and fire again. There were many containers in the warehouse, and Gin and Vodka had already taken cover behind the nearest container and were no longer showing themselves.
"Ugh, it still doesn't work..."
Amuro Tooru was somewhat disappointed that he hadn't succeeded in one strike, but if Gin were so easy to kill, he would have died ten thousand times over, so he wasn't panicked.
There's still a backup plan.
The sound of sirens made him smile slightly. The warehouse on the dock backed onto Tokyo Bay, and there was only one exit on his side, which was completely different from the situation at the invention exhibition.
No matter how capable Gin is, he can't escape this inescapable trap today, can he?
Amuro Tooru put on the tactical headset that he used to communicate with Kazami Yuya, ensuring that they could communicate with each other in real time.
"Hello, hello." The microphone had a static sound, nothing like the sophisticated communication equipment that "Starlight" sold to the Black Organization.
"Mr. Furuya." A slightly distorted voice came from the other end of the line, but the sound quality didn't matter, as long as we made contact.
"Kazemi, have the special operations team take all their weapons and slowly advance into the warehouse. The other officers should set up a cordon, form an encirclement, and stand by."
Amuro Tooru issued orders methodically.
"By the way, we also need to tell them that this target is extremely dangerous—there is a possibility that they are armed with heavy weapons and carrying high explosives. During the operation, protecting themselves must be the top priority, and no reckless or greedy behavior is allowed."
"Okay." Kazami received the order, turned off his microphone, and mobilized the 23 police officers who had surrounded the warehouse.
Soon, all personnel were in position, the tactical team set up riot shields, and advanced into the warehouse.
“Mr. Furuya.” Kazami Yuya’s voice came through the earpiece again, “In order to prevent a repeat of the last situation, this time I will accompany the First Tactical Operations Team the entire time and give direct orders. We will not let them escape again.”
In fact, even without him saying it, Amuro Tooru had already seen his figure heavily protected by riot shields through the sniper scope.
“You…” Amuro Tooru frowned. He wanted to say that getting close to Gin was too dangerous, but then he thought that this time they were the ones who ambushed Gin. Since he was caught off guard, he probably had no desire to fight back.
Moreover, with their own snipers providing cover, even in the worst-case scenario, the officers would not be in danger.
"You're allowed to follow up, but be careful," Amuro Tooru replied. "And keep your microphone on the whole time so I can keep track of what's going on your end."
"Yes, I will definitely not let you down." Kazami Yuya's voice was full of determination, perhaps recalling the scene in the car earlier when "Starlight" launched a sweeping attack on the police.
Amuro opened his mouth, feeling uneasy but unable to put his finger on it.
He could only focus more intently on the situation inside the warehouse through the sniper scope, dutifully providing cover.
......
Everyone was stunned when the first officer fell.
Because of the sniper scope's field of view, Amuro Tooru, whose attention was entirely focused on the police officers, didn't even see where the enemy had fired the shot from.
An anxious shout came through the earpiece, and the well-trained team members suddenly fell into chaos.
From their fragmented conversation, Amuro Tooru seemed to hear that the riot shield had a large hole in it?
How could that be? Gin's usual Beretta doesn't have that kind of power.
Even the "plasma gun" that "Starlight" sold to the organization was just a new energy pistol that didn't consume bullets, and it still had the risk of overheating.
Few members who were used to the code name "kinetic pistol" chose to change their beloved guns.
Compared to its lethality against humans, a plasma gun might not be as powerful as some large-caliber kinetic energy pistols.
Therefore, Amuro Tooru is more inclined to believe that Gin fired at a certain angle, and the bullet passed through the gap in the riot shield, which is why it hit the careless police officer.
It sounds incredible, but it's not impossible for a weapon master like Gin.
Such a thought lasted no more than five seconds before being shattered by the harsh reality.
A black figure emerged from the container, its long, silvery-white hair billowing in the air along with the hem of its black trench coat, catching the gusts of wind created by the speeding movement.
Two different pistols spewed fire, all the bullets in the magazines poured out, and where the muzzles pointed, blood bloomed as brilliantly as red roses in May.
Amuro Tooru pulled the trigger the instant the shadow appeared.
Gin's experience in dealing with sniper rifles was exceptional. He fired while moving erratically, maintaining his forward momentum. Within two seconds of leaving cover, he had emptied both pistol magazines.
Then, without stopping, he crawled into another cover.
Amuro Tooru failed to predict Gin's route. The two sniper bullets fired with resentment both sank into the concrete ground, creating radial cracks.
He came to his senses and wondered why he was the only one who fired the shot.
—The police officers who entered the warehouse all fell into pools of blood.
Upon realizing this, Amuro Tooru's pupils dilated suddenly, and for the first time, he felt like gagging.
Swallowing hard to stop the spasm in his throat, he put the microphone to his mouth and asked in a hoarse voice.
"Kazemi."
No one answered.
All I could hear from the other end of the earpiece was the sound of an unknown liquid gurgling.
The sound was like honey that had accidentally seeped into the trachea, thick and suffocating.
"Kazami." This time he raised his voice.
Still no one answered.
The warehouse was eerily quiet; even the sound of flowing blood was gone.
'Ah, I'll never hear that voice again, the one that kept calling me "Mr. Furuya" even though I'd told them so many times not to call me by my name.' Amuro Tooru suddenly thought.
So he yanked the earphones off his ears.
He pulled the bolt aggressively to aim.
"boom"
"boom"
"boom"
Three sniper bullets shot out in quick succession toward the container where Gin was hiding.
However, even a .338 Lapua Magnum with a kinetic energy exceeding 6000 joules could not possibly penetrate a fully loaded container and still cause enough damage to people hiding behind it.
Amuro Tooru's sniping was destined to be nothing more than a meaningless outburst of anger.
The salty sea breeze blows across Tokyo Bay, where only the ground is stained red with blood.
Chapter 75 Remarks on the launch
This book will be available tomorrow morning.
This is my first time writing a post about a book's release, and I have mixed feelings. I don't know what to say.
In short, I would like to thank all the readers who have been willing to read this far. It is your support that has motivated me to write these hundreds of thousands of words.
As for the book's performance... I believe everyone can see that it's very poor. The author himself probably knows the reasons: the early episodes lacked excitement, the pacing was relatively slow, and the writing wasn't interesting enough.
But writing Conan fanfiction... isn't it inherently a long and arduous battle of attrition?
This book, now, just before its release, has nearly 170,000 words in it, and only through the robbery case of Miyano Akemi has it barely begun to introduce the female protagonist.
The protagonist's true personality has only just begun to emerge, the envisioned company hasn't even been established yet, and the system has only been upgraded once. Original and source characters have only appeared intermittently, and their stories haven't been truly developed yet... Everything has just gotten back on track with the conclusion of Miyano Akemi's robbery case.
The author also considered speeding up the pace and making the plot more compact... However, firstly, the first few dozen chapters had indeed contained too much unnecessary dialogue, which made the later characters' plots feel rushed, so it was impossible to speed things up further.
Secondly, the author's writing style leans towards everyday life. He feels that if the plot progresses too quickly, the article becomes like fast food, something you have to swallow and then drink water to get it down.
The protagonist's overpowered abilities are already impressive enough. If we only focused on the main storyline and purely on the exciting battles, we probably wouldn't even be able to finish 50 words...
Therefore, I am consciously committed to writing slice-of-life stories and will strive to create a good character profile.
If the plot isn't fast enough, we'll make up for it with more word count updates.
However, the author is currently typing relatively slowly, and can probably guarantee an update speed of 6 words per day after the book is published. Once the typing speed improves, it may be more.
