"Damn! You don't even have a legal identity, do you?"
Jack Wells was shocked, but upon closer inspection, it didn't seem like there was anything wrong with it.
Quite a few people have illegally crossed into "Night City," and despite the city's terrible security, some still believe in the legend of the "City of Dreams."
Night City Grand Stage: If you dare, come and join us. As long as you're ruthless enough, you'll live the high life, with luxury cars and beautiful women at your fingertips.
As for leaving? No one leaves Night City unless they're in a body bag.
"Looks like we've got something to do tonight."
Jack Wells accepted it; Ke Ling was clearly someone with a story, but he didn't want to ask too much. Who doesn't have a story?
The people of Night City are diverse, and each has their own fascinating story.
"Come on, let me take you to buy a cell phone first."
Jack Wells got into the swing of things quickly; he immediately wanted to take Ke Ling out.
Everything else is fine, but having a reliable way to contact someone is the most important thing, otherwise you won't be able to find them.
“Well, Jack, I’m also open to installing chip slot components.”
Ke Ling called out to Jack Wells, "Why bother with a cell phone? We should go straight for a brain-computer interface."
"Huh? I thought you..."
Jack Wells was taken aback; he hadn't expected Ke Ling to make such a request.
He suggested buying a cell phone because he noticed that Ke Ling wasn't wearing any prosthetics, but has Ke Ling come to terms with it?
"Dude, of course you can! Let me tell you, this thing is way better than a cell phone. I guarantee you'll love it once you install it."
Jack Wells had no reason to refuse Ke Ling's request. He pointed to the brain-computer interface on the side of his head and said it in an exaggerated way.
To be honest, buying a cell phone might be more difficult than performing brain-computer interface surgery on Ke Ling.
"Thanks, Jack, but remember to find a trustworthy prosthetic doctor. You should have one, right?"
Ke Ling thanked Jack, then hinted that he certainly hoped Jack Wells would take him to Old Vieux.
Old V, whose real name is Victor Victor, is a prosthetic doctor known to both V and Jack Wells, a breath of fresh air among many unscrupulous doctors.
Vee is a man of principle, an old-school street tough guy, one of Night City's living legends, and definitely the most reliable prosthetic doctor in Night City.
Ke Ling's body is special, and he wouldn't dare to let anyone operate on him without finding a reliable prosthetic doctor. There's just too much to explain.
"Don't worry, in Night City, you definitely won't find a more reliable prosthetic doctor than Old Wei."
Sure enough, Jack Wells gave him a thumbs up; he had originally planned to take Ke Ling to see Old Wei.
"Then what are we waiting for?"
It was already dark outside, and Ke Ling was finally able to go out and move around, so he got up immediately.
"Ha, decisive and efficient? Let's go then."
Jack Wells smiled, and without saying a word, he got up and walked out.
However, the way the two went to find Old Wei was quite absurd; they took the subway, the Night City Rapid Transit, or simply the subway.
"What's wrong with taking the subway? It's convenient and fast. If you ask me, the Ye Group should build a few more stations."
On the subway, Jack Wells was quite content, holding a tortilla in his hand, munching on it while pontificating about everything under the sun.
Ke Ling obviously didn't have any tortillas, and he couldn't eat them anyway, so he had to refuse Jack Wells's offer to buy him one.
"I think we should strengthen public security management instead."
Ke Ling responded to Jack Wells's words, saying that they had just encountered a robbery while getting into the car, although they weren't the ones being robbed.
"Then you're making things difficult for the Ye Group. They've poured a lot of money into those sons of bitches NCPD, but it hasn't done anything of any use."
Jack Wells finished his tortilla, threw the bag into the trash can, and muttered something as he wiped his mouth.
That is the Night City Police Department.
"To put it nicely, they're Night City cops; to put it bluntly, they're just dogs the company keeps."
Jack Wells offered a sharp critique of the NCPD, but of course, it's not fair to blame the officers; it's just the way things are.
Ke Ling didn't say anything; these things had nothing to do with him. All he wanted to do right now was make money.
One good thing about taking the subway is that you can see the scenery.
Perhaps to save costs, or perhaps because part of Night City is reclaimed land, the subway lines are mostly above ground.
Therefore, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the city from the subway.
Even at night, the city is still full of lights, neon colors envelop the entire city, and huge advertisements sell people unattainable dreams.
Colorful advertisements are everywhere, whether you're walking, riding the subway, or even in deserted alleys, you'll find ads for products being sold.
To be honest, Ke Ling had only been out for a short while, and she was already getting a little annoyed by the barrage of advertisements.
Soon, Ke Ling and Jack Wells arrived at their stop, Chinatown in Watson District.
This subway is much faster than in the game; well, there's no way around it since there's no need to load a map.
Watson District and Haywood are quite far apart, and taking the subway is definitely faster than driving.
Led by Jack Wells, the two exited the subway and, after many twists and turns, finally arrived at their destination.
But what they saw was not a clinic, but a psychic shrine. The shop was small and filled with exorcism items and mystical things.
"Misty's Secret doesn't sound like a place for healing and saving lives."
Ke Ling made a joke; of course he knew that Old Wei's clinic was right behind Misty's psychic house.
"Haha, you're wrong, buddy."
Jack Wells laughed heartily, patted Ke Ling on the shoulder, and made a witty remark.
“Old Vie is responsible for healing the body, while Misty is responsible for mending the broken heart; they are the best partners.”
Please read my new book! It's really important! Thank you so much, dear readers!!
Chapter 20 You're Not Human
Ke Ling and Jack Wells entered the store, where the owner, Misty, was exchanging some occult insights with a customer.
Misty was a pretty woman; she wore a blue off-the-shoulder top, a short skirt, and fishnet stockings.
She was also from Haywood, but like V, she didn't have any very obvious Chicano cultural characteristics.
It might be a professional requirement, after all, she runs a psychic shrine, not a church. Of course, it's also possible she's not Latino.
"Hi, Misty, you're as stunning as ever today."
Jack Wells greeted Misty as if he hadn't seen any guests.
“Jack? Bringing a new friend for a fortune telling? But you might have to wait a bit, I’m currently interpreting this lady’s destiny.”
Misty didn't seem to mind the interruption; she smiled gently and spoke in a very tender tone.
"No, no, no, this new friend isn't here to see you. I brought him to see Old Wei."
Jack Wells waved to Misty, then led Ke Ling to the back of the psychic house, no longer disturbing Misty's work.
Ke Ling and Misty exchanged a glance and nodded to each other. Misty didn't seem surprised; she was used to Ke Ling's expression.
Perhaps it was because she always helped Old Wei by acting as his nurse, and she had seen many people who had transformed themselves into strange and bizarre individuals, even those who were even stranger.
"His lover?"
After leaving "Misty's Secret," Ke Ling jokingly remarked to Jack Wells.
"Not yet, we've been playing together since we were kids."
Jack Wells denied that he and Misty grew up in the same neighborhood, but were not together.
What might the future hold?
Ke Ling didn't let Jack Wells off easily and continued to press him, knowing that the two had feelings for each other.
He also remembered that Jack Wells was not with Misty now; the two of them were together in 76.
They were together for only a year, then Jack Wells died, and the other one lost his soul.
"Maybe?"
Jack Wells raised an eyebrow, not denying it; he was a straightforward man.
Chatting and laughing, the two had already gone down to Old Vie's clinic. After leaving "Misty's Secret," turn a corner and go down the stairs to the next floor.
"Old Wei, I brought you a list. She's never had a prosthetic body before, she's a virgin. Be gentle with her, haha."
As soon as he entered, Jack Wells started shouting in his loud voice, not caring if he disturbed old Wells.
"Sit aside and wait a moment. I'll be right there once I finish what I'm doing."
Old Wei's voice rang out, calm and composed, sounding very steady and reliable.
"No problem, we'll wait a bit."
Jack Wells said something to Ke Ling, then stopped bothering Old Wei and simply found a chair to sit down.
Ke Ling looked toward the operating table in the inner room, where a middle-aged man was performing a prosthetic body installation surgery; it was none other than Old Wei.
However, as a prosthetic doctor, Old Wei is not very convincing, as he does not have any obvious prosthetics.
Even his hands are made entirely of flesh; he uses props to operate them, unlike some prosthetic doctors who directly modify their hands for surgical use.
Old Wei's prosthetic clinic, like himself, emphasizes simplicity and unpretentiousness, unlike those advertised on the street that resemble meditation rooms on a spaceship.
But in terms of skills, Lao Wei is no less skilled than them; he has been a clinician for many years and has a wealth of experience.
Not long after, Old Wei's surgery was over. The customer was clearly satisfied with the prosthetic body installation and simply paid and left.
"Come, let me see where you found such a rare item."
Old Wei stretched his arms and walked towards Jack Wells and Ke Ling with a smile. He was wearing dark sunglasses, and it was unclear why he was indoors.
"My brother here is really something. He used to be involved in the animal gang thing, and now he's getting a prosthetic body."
