Chapter Fifty-Six: You Still Say You Don't Know Martial Arts
Two soft, white fists collided violently together.
Kallen has always been known for her superhuman strength. Even though she was defeated by Fu Hua, the Red-Robed Sage, who still had a lot of power left in the Destiny Expedition, when it comes to strength alone, Fu Hua had to admit that she was the strongest she had ever seen in this era.
However, Cecilia is also a rare genius in the Schariac family, and the holy blood within her grants her unprecedented adaptability to Honkai energy. This allows her to strengthen her body with Honkai energy, to a degree far exceeding that of ordinary Valkyries.
The sound of fists colliding was like two excavators slamming into the ground, the violent roar even causing bursts of air.
Although both possessed Divine Keys, neither wanted to unleash their full power because they didn't truly intend to fight to the death. Therefore, after exchanging a few blows with their weapons, they spontaneously began engaging in close-quarters combat, with each punch landing squarely.
Another heart-stopping impact resounded as Karen, with her cross on her back, leaped out of the battle.
“Your mind is in turmoil,” Karen said to Cecilia, shaking her wrist to relieve the soreness.
“You don’t have any desire to continue fighting either.” Cecilia didn’t refute, but immediately pointed out that Karen also had other things on her mind.
Just as Kiana was watching Cecilia, Cecilia was also watching Kiana closely. The more Cecilia observed Kiana, the greater her doubts became. Although Kiana, as a biological clone, did resemble Cecilia's real daughter, there was one thing that could not be copied: the almost mystical telepathic connection between mother and daughter.
The more Cecilia looked at Kiana, the more she sensed a subtle difference that wasn't quite right.
Furthermore, when Kiana used the power of the Herrscher of the Void, Cecilia sensed the same fluctuations she had felt from Sirin. She knew that Kiana wasn't summoned by Bai Chen, but was a real person still existing in the world. Therefore, she quickly formed a hesitant suspicion in her mind, and no longer had the will to fight Kallen. Instead, she wanted to go back and confirm with Theresa as soon as possible.
“Since today is just the opening ceremony, let’s stop here.” Karen nodded to Cecilia.
"I'll ask you for advice again if I have the chance in the future." Cecilia rarely found a worthy opponent. As the former leader of the Valkyrie Squad, she was also the kind of person who would be eager to learn from anyone.
Otto, who had been standing at the back with a slight smile on his face, stepped forward. The Void Treasury in his hand transformed into the shape of the Heavenly Fire Greatsword.
He seemed to enjoy seeing Karen fight for him and others, as if some strange personality had awakened during the long wait of hundreds of years?
"Theresa, then we'll see you next time." He tugged at Karen's sleeve, waved to Theresa, and walked with Karen toward Bai Chen.
“You should leave now, Your Excellency. I think this nun has a lot to ask you, doesn’t she?” Bai Chen didn’t want to be Otto’s scapegoat.
Otto has conducted many experiments over the years. Without commenting on whether these experiments were right or wrong, or whether they should be condemned, it is probably not entirely fair to say that they were wrong in Karen's case.
Whether Otto chooses to be completely honest and accept Kallen's wrath, or chooses to continue hiding the truth and start a completely new path, is up to him to decide.
Of course, Bai Chen had great confidence in his ally. 500 years ago, Otto was just a greenhorn inventor, a young boy, an inexperienced youth, and naturally couldn't handle his sweetheart, his fiancée, very well.
But so many years have passed, and if he still can't handle a girl in her twenties, has Otto wasted all those hundreds of years of his life?
Karen had a bellyful of questions on her mind, and if it weren't for the Archbishop of Destiny's sake, she would have asked them on the spot. She had long since given up on continuing to linger here, so when she heard Bai Chen's words, which were clearly meant to send them away, she grabbed Otto's wrist and pulled him off the platform, stepping on the Oath of Judah.
Bai Chen wondered if it was just his imagination, but Otto's smile seemed somewhat bitter. It seemed the Archbishop would have to pay a considerable price to win over Kallen.
Four out of the fourteen people left in an instant, leaving the room much emptier. Theresa and Cecilia exchanged a few words in hushed tones and then quickly left as well.
She wasn't worried about her students. Bai Chenle's personality was already evident; as long as Kiana didn't suddenly transform into Sirin and go berserk, she wouldn't possibly harm Bronya.
Following Theresa and Cecilia, Raven, after assessing the situation, also took Gretchen's arm, boarded her painting, and quickly left. She had no intention of intervening tonight; as a mercenary hired by Bai Chen, she preferred to avoid trouble as long as her boss didn't give the order.
The boss is clearly not paying attention to me right now, so if I don't take this opportunity to slip away, when will I ever get another chance?
Aside from Kiana and Bai Chen, the only other characters are the four from the orphanage and the chuunibyou truant girl from another world.
In fact, while they were fighting here, the five youngest girls had already gathered together and were happily playing cards.
That's right, they started playing poker.
Rewind to a little earlier, when Bronya and Seele crossed the platform to Arlene's side, Lilia was playing Dou Dizhu (a card game) with Rosalia and Fischl, the princess of the Darklands, holding a deck of cards.
Although Rosalia was tied up, Bai Chen, due to habitual thinking, overlooked her tail. Even without limbs, she could still use her tail to play cards.
Upon discovering the three were playing Dou Dizhu (a popular Chinese card game), the black-clad Seele became interested. She remembered playing cards with the white-clad Seele before, but in the vast Quantum Sea, the two of them couldn't play Dou Dizhu, and could only play the simplest version. At that time, she vowed that if she could leave the Quantum Sea, she would find someone to play cards with them.
So, naturally, she joined in.
Bronya was already used to her sisters' eccentricities, and there was nothing she could do but lean on Rosalia's wheelchair and occasionally help her draw a card, as Rosalia was unable to move around easily.
"Although I had a premonition, this is really something, it's infuriating to see." Bai Chen seemed to hear his own anger burning. Putting others aside, Rosalia still owed him 15 ancient poems that she hadn't memorized!
Chapter 57 Sirin Wants a Hug
Although the game wasn't over yet, Bai Chen reached out and pulled Lilia up by her tail while she was sitting on the ground.
As a tail derived from a Honkai Beast, it doesn't have any of the strange features that would only appear in a game's storyline. This is the most powerful and resilient part of Lilia's body, flexible and easy to use; Lilia can even use her tail to grab and swing massive weapons.
However, her schoolgirl skirt flipped down due to gravity, and even though she was wearing white safety shorts underneath, Lilia still shyly covered her thighs with her hands.
"I didn't bring you here to play cards. If you're so free, why don't you do some basic arithmetic with Kiana!"
Like lifting a large cat, Bai Chen bounced it up and down, and a huge spatial portal appeared below, throwing Lilia, Rosalia, and Fischl into it together.
At the other end of the spatial portal lies a hotel room in the real world. Although there are three or four rooms in this room, Bai Chen has placed a spatial lock on the door of each room. Anyone who cannot unlock the spatial lock cannot leave the room.
The room was already set up with learning materials suitable for different stages. Because Rosalia and Lilia were still young and had not received systematic learning before, Bai Chen arranged for them to study the most basic arts and sciences subjects, while also emphasizing biology.
After all, neither of them should have the qualifications to become a Herrscher. If they want to develop their own power in the future, they will have to deal with the Honkai Beast genes in their bodies. Besides, it is still uncertain whether Cocolia's Honkai Beast Fusion Warrior experiment will have any aftereffects. If problems such as inability to grow or reproduce occur in the future, Bai Chen hopes that the two sisters will at least have a way to solve their own genetic defects.
Bai Chen arranged many more teaching materials for Fischl, placing high hopes on her. After all, she was a girl from another world, and he hoped she could develop the elemental power of the Eye of God she possessed to the fullest extent. If Fischl returned to Teyvat, she could write works such as advanced elemental theory, new elemental theories, formulas for the fusion of composite elements, and corresponding advanced mathematical models…
This would save Bai Chen a lot of time in researching the elements of Teyvat, and at the very least, it could serve as his research assistant, helping him complete some simple calculations and experimental operations that didn't require him to do them himself.
This would greatly shorten Bai Chen's progress in ascending Sky Island to study a certain celestial principle.
Unfortunately, Bai Chen's earnest expectations failed to reach the girls. Even after being thrown into the spatial portal, Fischl still clutched her cards in her hand.
It's truly frustrating to see someone so hopeless.
"Are you going to stay?"
After dealing with the Arlene sisters, Bai Chen looked at Bronya and Seele beside him and asked thoughtfully.
Bronya goes without saying. As the future Herrscher of Reason, she is most likely to understand the truth of this world and be proficient in all mathematical principles. It shouldn't be a problem for her to help him build a Spear of Adun-class starship and equip it with one or two stellar engines, right?
Seele's situation is rather intriguing. The Sea of Quanta is a completely unfamiliar territory for Bai Chen, and he is filled with curiosity about this unknown world. Rather than wanting to develop Seele's abilities, it would be more accurate to say that he wants to thoroughly study Seele. Although Cocolia's experiment failed, the fact that Seele was able to enter the Sea of Quanta must have had its unique aspects.
However, such research requires the cooperation of the individual. Just as doctors know their own bodies best and can achieve twice the result with half the effort by consulting with colleagues, having sufficient knowledge can save one from countless detours.
As Bai Chen thought this, his gaze gradually turned dangerous, and even the fearless Black Seele couldn't help but shudder.
"Bronya has other matters to attend to, but she'll be back later!"
These words weren't spoken by Bronya, but by Seele. After uttering those words, she grabbed Bronya's hand, transformed into a quantum butterfly, and swiftly disappeared from the platform.
Bai Chen didn't stop her. This method of movement was interesting enough. There was plenty of time in the future; he would be spending a long time in this fascinating world, and he would have many more opportunities to interact with Seele. There were plenty of ways to make her sit obediently with Kiana in the tutoring class and happily do her homework.
"Oh, thinking about it this way, I'm really looking forward to the future. These days, with something to do and something to look forward to, are truly delightful."
Stretching on the platform of imaginary space, Bai Chen sighed.
"Although I'm not entirely sure what you're thinking, it seems to be something not so good," Fu Hua's projection grumbled in Bai Chen's mind.
"Nonsense. A Herrscher like me who loves to teach is the source of progress in the Honkai world."
"You're right, I'm not a good teacher. I'm far inferior to you in teaching students."
Thinking of her past experiences, including being betrayed by her own apprentice, Fu Hua shook her head, her spirit sinking into silence once more.
------------------------
Red Roses and Night Lovers Hotel, midnight.
After everyone left, Bai Chen released the imaginary space, and Kiana returned to her room, washed up, and went to bed.
Because of the unexpected incident today, Bai Chen canceled the usual set of practice problems for tonight. Before going to sleep, looking at Fischl and Arlene, who were still working late into the night in the next room, Kiana felt that her sleep tonight seemed particularly sweet.
Although she was still thinking about her duel with Mei and about her mother Cecilia, exhaustion and fatigue quickly lulled her to sleep.
In fact, after becoming the Herrscher of the Void, Kiana never dreamed again, because Fu Hua's consciousness was attached to her, and her mental world and subconscious were protected by Fu Hua.
But today, for some unknown reason, she had a long-lost dream.
"Where am I...where am I?"
The sky was gray and gloomy, and it seemed that snow was falling all around. The cold wind felt like knives scraping against her body. Kiana stood on the plain with her arms crossed. There was no firelight in sight, only darkness and ice and snow.
"This is where you were born!"
A familiar voice came from all directions.
"You are... Sirin! What are you going to do?!"
Kiana immediately understood her current situation: this was a dream, her subconscious, and also the place where Sirin was!
"Kiana, I just want you to see how we were born!" The girl's voice was filled with rejection and sneer at the whole world.
P.S.: I think Sirin actually likes Cecilia quite a bit, even though she doesn't really like her. This isn't just empty rhetoric; it's a complex feeling. So, it's not unreasonable for her to want to meet Cecilia after finding her, right? Besides, I still plan to separate her from Cecilia…
Also, the summer event was really fun, hehehe. I haven't even done my weekly tasks yet, but I'm taking the art book without hesitation!
Chapter 58 Xilin Didn't Hug
In the gloomy world, a single, warm flame appeared ahead.
Kiana had no choice. Sirin was now in control of the dream, and without Fu Hua's help, Kiana was unable to expel Sirin from her mental world.
If she stayed on the snowfield, she would surely freeze to death; she could already feel the cold and the stinging pain of frostbite. So she could only follow Sirin's directions and slowly move forward towards the only warm place ahead.
Fortunately, the firelight on the plain was not far from Kiana, and soon, Kiana, who was trekking through the snow, arrived at the place where the firelight was rising.
It was a massive, dark gray building, with a blazing bonfire burning atop its black roof. Kiana recognized it; she had seen its form more than once in Sirin's memories—the Babylonian Laboratory. The place where everything began, and where everything ended.
The large gate, which should have been secured with chains, was ajar, seemingly welcoming every traveler who came to the plains. Kiana reached out and pushed open the metal handle, the metal blades creaking and groaning.
Kiana was prepared when she pushed open the door. She knew what kind of treatment Sirin had suffered over the years, so whatever kind of monsters or demons appeared behind the door was within Kiana's expectations.
Surprisingly, upon opening the door, there were no strange monsters at all. In the hall, covered with a red velvet carpet, there was a warm fireplace with bright flames burning, and a crystal chandelier with shimmering tassels on the ceiling.
On both sides are heavy solid wood furniture, the best ceramic kilns in China, and exquisite potted plants from expensive gardens... This is not a laboratory filled with despair and bloodshed, but a huge and warm ancient castle.
"Cirin, what are you up to?"
Despite the heartwarming scene, Kiana became increasingly wary. Sirin wouldn't do something without a reason; there must be some terrible trap involved.
"Oh dear, don't make such a scary face. I want to share some...precious memories with you."
Sirin's voice came from the sky, and a blurry image appeared in front of Kiana, like a game lag.
In the once empty hall, a beautiful woman dressed in a magnificent white court gown, adorned with jewels, descended the stairs from the second floor. Her dress shone like the bright moon in the sky, and her jewelry seemed to be filled with the brilliance of countless stars. Clearly, these were not things that could exist in reality, but rather the fantasy of the dream's owner, Sirin.
"Cecilia's mother?" Kiana certainly recognized the woman; it was Cecilia, whom she had just met earlier that day.
