"I can save your students, but I can't save you."
The Herrscher of the Void is not omnipotent, and Bai Chen does not possess any healing potions produced by the system. He truly has no means to save Himeko at the moment.
"Consider it my last gift to her. She was a student who never gave me any peace of mind," the woman said with a nonchalant smile.
Without hesitation, Bai Chen activated his Herrscher powers, instantly appearing before the still struggling Sirin. His spatial teleportation didn't require opening a portal; knowing the spatial coordinates was enough to complete a transfer without leaving a trace.
Sirin seemed to want to say something, but Bai Chen didn't give her a chance. The "Godslayer Spear" was pressed against the back of the girl's neck, and the potion was suddenly injected into Sirin's body under hydraulic pressure.
The potion lived up to its name. Sirin immediately experienced a violent degeneration reaction. She let out a painful howl, feeling her spirit being torn from her body. A Honkai Source Tree, which seemed to represent the Kabbalah Tree of Life, appeared above her head. It was the manifestation of this body being reduced from a Herrscher representing angels to a mortal under the influence of the God-Slaying Spear.
The golden light representing the Herrscher faded from her eyes, replaced by the gentle, light blue pupils of a girl. As she lost consciousness, her body quickly went limp, and Bai Chen lifted her up by the waist.
The simulation task has been completed.
Mission Reward: Gravity Alteration.
The reward was neither good nor bad, and had little impact on the current situation.
Bai Chen appeared next to Himeko carrying Kiana, put her on the ground, and then took out his phone from his pocket.
"Leave some last words for your student, so she won't wake up and ask me where you are."
"Ahem, how thoughtful."
The Valkyrie, who had been fighting on the front lines for years, couldn't help but laugh out loud. She could feel her life rapidly slipping away, her breathing ceasing, her blood slowing, and her heart gradually stopping.
She had imagined her death countless times. She knew she would not die in a hospital bed, because a great battle would be her final destination.
She is Himeko Murata, born in the far east of the world, and graduated from Caltech's Interstellar Navigation Dynamics program at the age of eighteen. She is the last surviving member of the Valkyrie Stormtroopers, having traversed countless battlefields and faced countless enemies. Her life ultimately came to an end after a death battle with the Herrscher, a glorious and victorious fight in which she successfully rescued her most mischievous student from the Herrscher's clutches.
That's good; this kind of death is worthy of Himeko Murata's life.
"Kiana, when you wake up and see the recording, you'll find that everything has changed. The world is no longer beautiful, and those ordinary days are gone forever. But don't give up, never give up. Lift your head and keep moving forward, Kiana. You must become the strongest Valkyrie and use your hands to transform this imperfect world into the one you long for."
Her hand holding the phone slowly slipped down; the resilient heart, already operating at an excessive capacity, was finally about to pump for the last time. The flames that had been burning within Himeko died out, and her body began to turn a pale, ashen white, like extinguished embers.
Her voice finally became weaker than ever before: "You are the best student, Kiana. This is the last lesson."
As the sound faded, Himeko's hands fell limply to the deck of the Hyperion projection. Her armor shattered, and the Plague Gem embedded in the hilt of her sword flew into the imaginary space below.
Bai Chen ignored the Plague Gem, letting it disappear into the imaginary space as it had originally followed its path. But he reached out to Himeko, whose body still held a sliver of life, and activated an ability he had finally prepared.
In that instant, the sound of strings appeared in the imaginary space.
That was the power of the Herrscher of the Void. The power was twisting and bouncing, like ripples in water, like light, like a point, like dust, like a grain.
This force is like the most intricate thread in the world, traversing space and time, passing through eleven dimensions, seemingly aiming to penetrate the entire history of human quantum mechanics.
At the beginning of physics, Einstein depicted its image, while Witton laid it out across the past and future of the entire universe!
"Space, let time stand still," Bai Chen said softly.
An ability that can only be activated slowly and without any interference. Time within Himeko was frozen in the instant before her death due to spatial interference, like a princess in a fairy tale waiting to be awakened.
A huge portal appeared on the Hyperion projection beneath their feet, leading directly to the captain's seat in the control room.
Himeko, her body frozen in time, slowly sat in the captain's seat, just as she had done countless times before. The difference this time was that there were no crew members, only the empty Hyperion and the endless sea of imaginary numbers.
Bai Chen picked up Kiana and flew into the air, watching the huge ship carrying Himeko's body drift away into the distance.
This is not Ji Zi's grave, but a test paper that Bai Chen left for himself.
"What a hassle, but I'll come back and untie it," he muttered.
P.S.: It looks like I copied the plot, but I didn't actually copy it, hehe~
Please give me some votes!
Additionally, Himeko here seems to constitute a Calabi-Yau space, though I only thought about it casually and didn't include it in the text. Feel free to discuss if you have different opinions!
Chapter 4 Kiana, use your Flame Fist on Mei!
In a farm in the countryside, Bai Chen sat at the farm table and served himself a sumptuous lunch.
Wellington steak, fruit salad, French fries with condensed milk and ketchup, and a bottle of sake from Japan. Although sake and steak seemed like an odd combination, Bai Chen liked the taste, since he simply couldn't stand the acidity of wine.
"Aren't you going to eat something?" Bai Chen asked the girl who was sitting motionless on the sofa in the distance, as he sat down at the table and picked up his knife and fork.
With long, flowing white hair and wearing old pajamas she'd found on the farm, the girl sat silently on the sofa, her head bowed. It was Kiana Kaslana, who had slept for almost a week after leaving the Imaginary Dimension before finally awakening.
Today is her second day since waking up, but she hasn't eaten or drunk anything for the past two days. She just sits on the sofa or bed, silently holding the phone Bai Chen gave her, constantly scrolling through the video recordings left behind by Himeko Murata. It's only because her body has undergone multiple modifications and is a suitable vessel for the Herrscher of the Void that she can survive without food and water after a long coma. Otherwise, an ordinary person would have given up long ago without food and water.
After Kiana woke up, Bai Chen immediately handed her the video recording that Himeko had left before she fell asleep. This was Himeko's wish, and it was also information that Kiana needed to know. Rather than having Bai Chen, a stranger she didn't know well, explain it, it was better for her to accept the reality she would have to face in the future.
Not receiving a reply, Bai Chen didn't mind and continued eating his lunch.
In the original storyline, Kiana reappeared in the public eye approximately four months later. During those four months, she wandered aimlessly through the world, slowly accepting the fact that she had become the Herrscher of the Void. Of course, becoming the Herrscher of the Void wasn't the hardest thing for her to accept; what she couldn't let go of was that she had hurt almost everyone important to her: Fu Hua, Theresa, Bronya, Mei… and her teacher Himeko, whom she had dragged into death.
Just as Himeko said, the world she now faces has been turned upside down. She is no longer the Valkyrie of Destiny, no longer the carefree student at St. Freya Academy. She is the Herrscher of Destruction, the most important and proudest pawn created by a man who controls the world. All the gentleness and beauty of the world are against her. She must stay and face the malice of the world alone.
Just as Bai Chen finished eating the last piece of apple from his fruit salad, a slightly hoarse voice came from behind him: "Teacher Himeko, is she really dead?"
"Who knows. I placed her on the Hyperion in the Imaginary Space and froze the spacetime around her. She and the ship sailed into the depths of the Imaginary Space. If you have the ability, go find her in the Imaginary Space yourself," Bai Chen replied.
“Sufficient ability… What would it take for you to give me Himeko-sensei’s coordinates? Someone like you couldn’t possibly leave no trace.” Kiana walked towards Bai Chen and sat down in the chair next to him.
Bai Chen's eyes remained in the form of the Herrscher of the Void, his golden star-like pupils dazzlingly bright. Kiana knew that the man before her had always claimed to be the Herrscher of the Void, and in her memories, she could sense that his use of the Herrscher of the Void's powers far surpassed that of Sirin.
Although she didn't know why there were two Herrschers of the Void in the world, Kiana wasn't in the mood to dwell on such questions. And perhaps because she was also a Herrscher, despite being taught in her previous education that Herrschers were humanity's greatest enemies, she didn't sense any hostility from Bai Chen; instead, she felt a strange sense of goodwill and curiosity towards him.
She wanted to see Himeko-sensei one more time, even if it was her body, just so she could say goodbye to Himeko-sensei.
“Hmm, let me think. Once you pass the Landau Level Test and become Landau… no, my student, you’ll know Himeko’s coordinates.” Bai Chen smiled.
"What kind of exam is this? A Valkyrie test?" Kiana had never heard of this exam before, and her face was full of doubt.
"Yes, it's a very simple exam, consisting of only two math subjects and eight physics subjects. Forty-three people in human history have passed it, each a name worthy of shining in textbooks," Bai Chen said casually. "A prepared person can pass the exam in just three months. I believe in your abilities, Kiana Kaslana. With my guidance, after three months of dedicated study, you will definitely become a true powerhouse. Then you can use your Flame Fist on Mei and pull her back from the false path."
"Oh, by the way, because of your abilities, I need you to take additional tests on infinite-dimensional space and superstring theory. Is that alright?"
Kiana didn't know what Bai Chen was talking about. To her, it was just math and physics. Since Bai Chen was so confident that she could pass the exam in three months, she believed that she would not let Bai Chen down.
Moreover, Bai Chen teaches and sets his own exam questions, so he should... be able to give her some practice questions, right?
"Okay, it's settled then." Kiana cheered herself up again and agreed confidently.
She is no longer the person she used to be. After experiencing so much, she feels that she can overcome any difficulty she encounters.
Kiana, she can do anything!
P.S.: Landau's qualification, while prestigious and seemingly incredibly difficult, is supposedly quite easy, depending on the examiner. Although only one academician in China passed the exam, it's essentially just a graduate student selection process. Basically, it's about getting Kiana into the protagonist's graduate program, though the protagonist won't go easy on her! ...Well, she'll pass before this book ends!
Chapter 5: Herrschers can do anything, except mathematics.
"I can't do it anymore, I can't do anything!"
A girl with long, disheveled white hair lay slumped on the table, clutching her head and emitting a weak, mournful cry.
"Bai Chen, you must be the most terrifying devil in the world. You couldn't learn those things in three months, not even thirty years!"
The table in front of her was piled high with over a hundred books, all supplementary materials Bai Chen had bought from the library to use as textbooks. Although this world possessed unscientific phenomena like Honkai energy, its overall technological development was actually even more advanced than Earth's. For one thing, Dr. Einstein and Dr. Tesla were still alive in this world, albeit transformed into attractive young women, but their scientific research far surpassed that of their Earth counterparts.
But it made no difference to Kiana. All those strange formulas and symbols were like gibberish to her, and she couldn't understand a single one of them.
Even Herrschers aren't omnipotent, especially since Kiana doesn't yet possess Herrscher powers. While Sirin's situation might be worse—after all, Sirin was an orphan raised in a strange laboratory and can't even read properly—she's still a formidable presence.
"You don't even know the most basic derivative? Was your old St. Freya Academy a kindergarten?" Bai Chen couldn't help but complain.
"Who said that! It's just because I didn't study properly in class. If it were Mei, she could have done it much faster!" Kiana said righteously.
"You can't go out until you finish the test. Just stay here and learn the basic knowledge before you go out."
Bai Chen locked the door behind him, leaving Kiana alone in the room to study diligently.
Today marks the second month since Kiana became the Herrscher of the Void. Although no wanted notice for Kiana can be found online, organizations all over the world are frantically searching for the missing Herrscher of the Void.
Kiana can't even show her face on the street now. If she's captured by any camera, Schicksal and World Serpent will track her down. And she's unwilling to return to the Far East Branch where St. Freya Academy is located, or to meet up with Mei and the others on the Hyperion.
On the contrary, the rural farm that Bai Chen rented was far from the city and located in a remote area. No one would have guessed that the Herrscher of the Void, who had just triggered the Fourth Great Honkai Impact, lived here. Because they did not yet know the reason why Kiana regained her consciousness, the major organizations that knew of the existence of the Honkai were actively preparing for war to prevent the Herrscher of the Void from attacking again.
[There's one month until the next simulation experience; please find a simulation target as soon as possible.]
This is a notification that just popped up from the system. This simulation system acquires relevant data and determines the type of simulation target each time it enters a new world. It then grants Bai Chen a free simulation opportunity, but he must find a suitable simulation target before the current simulation ends to continue to the next one. If he fails to find a next simulation target before the time runs out, he will revert to his initial state upon entering the world, only able to use his own power.
Although Bai Chen's own power is not weak—he has received "basic physical enhancement," "superhuman vision," "special power pump," and the recently acquired "gravity alteration" as rewards from missions—these cannot compare to the powers of a Herrscher. If possible, he still wants to ensure that he carries Herrscher-level power within him.
After all, his mission this time was to expel the Honkai from this planet, or at least to eliminate the influence and interference of the Honkai will on human civilization. Judging from the previous chapters of the game, even without him, humanity might still succeed in the end after sacrificing Kiana, Fu Hua, and other main characters, but that outcome would have nothing to do with Bai Chen.
Just kidding. If you don't solve your own problems using your own ideas, are you just going to sit and wait to become a ship's accomplice?
"Let's go to the Hyperion first. Hopefully Mei has woken up by now," he muttered.
He then called out to Kiana through the door, "I'm going to the Far East branch. Is there anything I need to bring you?"
There was no response from inside the door. It wasn't until Bai Chen turned and left that he heard the girl lean against the door and whisper, "When I took the Conquest Gem from Mei's body, I injured her heart. Can you check on her and see how she is now?"
The Herrscher of the Void activated his powers, and Bai Chen instantly disappeared outside the door.
The girl behind the door squatted at the doorway, and after a long time, she finally got up and continued to finish the homework that Bai Chen had left behind.
Sometimes, even things you're not good at, you force yourself to accept, as long as there's a compelling reason to do so. Kiana was willing to learn from Bai Chen not only because of Himeko, but also because she witnessed Bai Chen's skill in using Herrscher power. If she could possess such skills, would the story have taken a different turn?
She pressed her hand to her chest, where three Herrscher cores were located. She could feel another consciousness within her body, Sirin, stirring restlessly, but aside from the suppression of the Godslayer Spear, she was unwilling to face Bai Chen, who had always been by Kiana's side.
But once the erosion begins, it won't stop; this may be the little time she has left.
"Himeko-sensei, I will definitely find you..."
This time, Bai Chen used the same spatial portal as Sirin. Following the coordinates he left when he descended, he easily returned to the cabin on the Hyperion where he had been when he first arrived in this world.
Because this was a friendly visit, Bai Chen did not conceal his Honkai energy fluctuations. When he stepped out of the spatial portal and onto the ship, the entire Hyperion was filled with deafening alarms.
His Honkai energy waveform is exactly the same as that of the Herrscher of the Void, Sirin; the Herrscher's arrival fluctuations cannot be concealed at all.
The first person to rush into the room turned out to be his target.
Holding a long katana, dressed in a hospital gown, and with long, flowing black hair, a girl kicked open the door while shouting Kiana's name. But upon seeing the man inside, she froze, completely unprepared.
"It's you?!"
"Raiden Mei, it's been a long time."
