Chapter 57 Ancient Books
Chapter 57 Ancient Books
"What..." Zellier felt a chill run down his spine from the voice.
"Look, I'm managing such a huge library all by myself, it's so tiring and I feel so pathetic... right?"
Bev gently shook Zellier's arm. "You're so capable, can you help me tidy up?"
Zell was completely unable to resist Bev's charming and coquettish advances.
He sighed softly.
"Let's go..."
"hey-hey."
……
When the two arrived at the library, the librarian was already waiting for them.
"Are you here to do this on a voluntary basis?"
The librarian adjusted his glasses and pointed to an area in the southeast corner of the library.
"That one piece is yours. There aren't many, just put them away according to their categories."
The bookshelves in that area were noticeably older than the others, and underneath them was a large table piled high with various books that were not yet fully organized.
“I’ll climb the ladder to put the books on the high shelves, and you can dust and sort them down here, okay?” Bev started assigning tasks.
Zellier didn't seem to care much about that. "It's up to you."
Bev pushed a movable wooden ladder out from the corner and began setting up the equipment.
However, when she actually started doing it, Beverly found that the job was not as easy as she had imagined.
The books placed on high shelves were much heavier than she had imagined. Before she could even take a few, her arms began to ache, and fine beads of sweat appeared on her forehead.
"No, no, no, no..."
Bev slid down the ladder, panting, her face flushed. "Let's switch. You go up, I'll stay down."
Zellir shook his head helplessly and took over Bev's place.
He climbed up the creaking wooden ladder step by step.
While tidying up below, I didn't notice anything special, but standing on higher ground, I realized how magnificent the library's dome was, almost like a palace.
"This book, *The Life of King Thales*, is a biography!"
"This book, 'Exploration Notes of the Dragon Ridge Mountains,' is in the geography category!"
"This book, *A Brief History of the Continent*, is a history book!"
As Bev dusted herself off, she loudly announced the book's title.
Sometimes, when she finds a book in the upper category, she has to stand on tiptoe to hand the heavy book to Zellier so he can put it back in its place.
"then!"
Beverly tossed the book into the air, and Zellier caught it with lightning speed.
He swayed twice, the ladder creaked, and he almost fell.
"Beve, be careful." Zellier was startled.
Bev giggled below.
As this interaction continued, the two became more and more in sync, and their speed in organizing and categorizing things greatly improved.
Soon, all the books piled on the desk were cleared away.
Just as Zellier was putting the last batch of geography books back on the top shelf, an ancient book tucked away at the very back of the shelf caught his attention.
This book is quite different from other books. The cover appears to be made of some kind of untreated white bark, with no words on it, only a depiction of a lush ancient tree in black ink.
“What kind of book is this…” Zellier asked curiously as he took it out.
It is very thin, and you can hardly feel its weight when you hold it in your hand.
“Let me see, let me see,” Bev called out from below.
Zell climbed down the ladder and handed the book to Bev.
Beverly blew away the dust from the cover and turned to the first page, and Zellier also came over.
The text wasn't in the common language of the Candia continent, and Zelier couldn't understand a word of it. However, the font was elegant and fluid, full of natural and harmonious beauty.
"This is……"
Bev frowned and thought for a while, then slapped her forehead, "I remember now, it's Elvish!"
"Elf language?"
"Only Elvish script looks like this, but I haven't systematically studied Elvish, so I can't understand it."
Bev quickly flipped through the pages. "This book is misplaced. Shouldn't it be in the 'to be verified' category?"
Suddenly, a yellowed parchment slipped from between the pages and floated gently to the ground.
Beverly picked it up and saw that it also had some patterns drawn in black ink.
Although no specific objects are depicted, it is evident that the lines are used in an extremely complex, distorted, and even chaotic manner.
They were intertwined together, without any logic whatsoever, but just looking at them made one feel inexplicably uneasy.
"There are still remnants of spiritual energy on it..."
Bev tried to infuse her mental energy into it, but to no avail.
The circuit structure presented inside is equally chaotic and difficult to understand.
"Here, take a look."
Beverly handed the piece of paper to Zellier.
The moment Zellier touched the paper, something unexpected happened.
A torrent of information instantly rushed into his mind.
hum!
Zellier's mind went blank for a moment, as if it had crashed.
Everything before his eyes disappeared; even the concepts of time and space became blurred, leaving only darkness.
In the boundless darkness, a beam of light illuminating the world suddenly swept in, cleaving the entire universe in two, bringing sudden enlightenment.
The eternal call echoed in his ears, and the whole world worshipped him, offering him the highest respect.
When Zellier came to his senses again, he was still standing in front of the bookshelf, and everything was perfectly fine and unchanged.
However, a complex and chaotic technique structure was imprinted deep within his consciousness, and could not be erased.
Zellier's heart pounded, and his breathing became heavier involuntarily.
Because he saw that the progress of the analysis of the Great Creation Technique had changed...
[The Great Creation Technique, Analysis Progress—1%!]
The legendary magic that shaped the world has taken a step forward!
Zellier took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down.
He was 100% certain that this was definitely not a process that increased over time.
In the vision at the end of "The Curse of the Immortals," it took him millions or even tens of millions of years to reach the final end through natural analysis.
How much time has passed? Less than a month.
The parsing progress cannot possibly change at all.
Zellier looked down at the parchment in his hand, his mind churning with thoughts.
Those chaotic and disorganized magical structures... could they be part of the Great Creation Technique?
What is the content of this book? Is it related to the creator god?
Suppressing his racing thoughts, Zellier turned and asked, "May I borrow this book?"
"It's alright, the books placed outside aren't anything valuable."
Bev said, "But don't you not understand Elvish?"
“I have a half-elf friend who might be able to understand it, and I’m quite interested in elves,” Zellir said.
"Oh."
Bev nodded. "Then you can put it aside. After you're done tidying up, just register it with the administrator."
