Chapter 13 Three Types of Magic
Chapter 13 Three Kinds of Magic
"Self-taught?"
These two words piqued Bev's interest.
In her mind, magic was synonymous with luxury, forever associated with expensive mentors, privileged backgrounds, and costly tomes.
A commoner who taught himself magic?
That sounds so strange.
Just as Beverly was about to ask something else, a wooden door on the right side of the hall opened.
A mage wearing a monocle waved in the direction of Bev and Zell.
"It's your turn."
……
The testing was conducted in a room called the Quiet Room.
The surrounding walls are made of white stone, and a crystal pillar stands in the center, making it look very sacred.
The mage in charge of the rating adjusted his monocle and spoke loudly.
“My name is Marvin Cofeller, a senior mage, and also your mentor for this test.”
It looked like Marvin was introducing himself to two people, but in reality, Marvin was only speaking to Zellier.
Judging from Beverly's expression, she already knew Professor Marvin.
"My name is Zelier." Zelier placed one hand on his chest and bowed slightly.
Marvin was slightly surprised to hear that Zellier did not have a surname, but the expression quickly disappeared from his face.
"Alright, Uncle Marvin, let's get started," Beverly urged.
Marvin glanced at Bev, his expression somewhat helpless.
“Beve, this is your third time participating in the mage rating this month. If you fail again, I will have to punish you by putting you into a 90-day cooling-off period.”
Bev pursed her lips, her voice noticeably softer.
"I'm sure I'll pass this time..."
"The evaluation process for magic apprentices is very simple. First, there is a magic power test, and then there is a magic casting level. I will judge whether you are qualified based on the process."
Marvin raised his hand toward the crystal pillar. "Bev, you go first."
"Keep it up," Zellier said with a smile, encouraging Bev.
Bev clenched her fist and nodded vigorously.
"Ok!"
She took off her pale purple robe and placed it aside, along with her wand.
These items that can amplify magic power cannot be used during the rating process.
Bev took a deep breath, walked to the crystal pillar, pressed her slender palm on it, and then infused it with magic.
The crystal pillar is made of a similar material to the crystal ball brought out by the guard at the door, but it is purer and its magical power can be clearly judged.
A burst of blue light shone from the bottom, then gradually rose, slowly reaching Bev's waist.
She mustered all her strength and poured magic into it with all her might. The blue light rose a little more before finally coming to a standstill.
Zellier made a visual assessment.
It's about... a meter or so, right?
About 1.2 to 1.3 meters tall.
Marvin glanced at it.
"It's alright, barely passable."
Beverly smiled, a delighted expression spreading across her pretty face.
"Wuhu!"
Last time, she couldn't even pass the magic power test.
Next up is Zellir.
He also placed his palm on it, and blue light emanated from the base of the crystal pillar, then shot up all the way up.
Not only was it much faster than Bev, but it also quickly surpassed Bev's previous position in height.
Beverly blinked, seemingly unable to believe what she was seeing.
Marvin was also somewhat surprised, and his gaze towards Zellir became more meaningful.
Finally, the blue light stopped slightly below Zellier's chest, about 20 or 30 centimeters higher than Bev.
"good."
Marvin nodded approvingly. "Your magic power has fully met the standards for a magic apprentice, and even has room for improvement." "Thank you for your praise." Zellier withdrew his hand.
A spirit attribute of 71 is indeed sufficient for a magic apprentice.
If Zellir had chosen Spell Surge in his talent tree, the Crystal Pillar could probably have been positioned even higher.
"You... did you really teach yourself?" Bev muttered under her breath.
They're even better than me.
Next, Marvin was going to test the two's magical casting abilities, with Beve going first as usual.
The process is very simple; you just need to unleash the magic you are good at, and Marvin will be in charge of judging.
Bev faced forward with her palms out, beginning to channel her magic to sketch out the structure of the spell in her mind.
Marvin narrowed his eyes slightly, carefully observing Bev's spellcasting process.
"call out!"
The space suddenly distorted slightly, and a pale blue gas blade slashed out!
Wind Blade Technique.
Although there were no wooden stakes or anything to quantify the extent of the damage, Zellier felt that the power of this attack should be considerable, at least comparable to a normal sword strike.
Next, Bev began to outline the structure of the second technique.
About six or seven seconds later, a bright light emanated from her palm.
Moreover, as Bev moves, these rays of light can be condensed into spheres that float high in the air, illuminating a wider area.
Illumination.
After resting for a while, Bev began sketching the third type of magic.
This time, a water sphere the size of a human head gradually condensed in front of her.
With a loud "bang," the water balloon flew forward at high speed and struck the wall.
Water polo.
"Huh...huh..."
After casting three spells in a row, Bev was clearly struggling. She was panting slightly as she looked at Marvin.
"How was it, Professor Marvin?"
"Looks like you've been working hard lately."
Marvin nodded slightly. "You've passed, Bev. From now on, you are a magic apprentice."
"That's great!" Bev exclaimed excitedly.
Not only was Bev happy, but Zell was also quite happy, because he could clearly see that three more progress bars had appeared below the Spell Evolution.
Wind Blade Technique, analysis progress - 2%.
Illumination technique, resolution progress - 2%.
Water Ball Technique, Analysis Progress - 2%.
This talent skill is really useful; it saves me the trouble and expense of getting magic scrolls.
Moreover, compared to more complex spells like the Embrace of Mist, the three spells cast by Bev were analyzed much faster.
It's already at 2% progress after just joining the queue, so I reckon it'll be parsed in a few days.
“Your turn, Zellir,” Marvin gestured.
Zelier took a step forward, exhaled softly, and the spell structure of Fireball appeared in his mind.
The magic spread out along its predetermined path, ready to flow.
But at that moment, Zellir suddenly paused, making an unexpected discovery.
In his mind, the originally complete structure of the Fireball spell had some unnecessary and redundant parts.
These crooked and redundant parts can be modified into straight lines that allow magic to flow faster.
How is this going……
Zellier couldn't help but feel puzzled.
I didn't feel this way when I cast Fireball before.
However, Zellier did not dwell on it too much. He followed his heart, modified the superfluous parts, and successfully completed the outline of the spell's structure.
