Mysterious Resurrection: What If
Chapter 5 Out of Control
Chapter 5 Out of Control (Part 5)
As Yang Jian and his two companions walked through the unfamiliar Huanggang Village, a coffin suddenly blocked their way after they turned a corner.
"Empty..." The ghostly hand pressed against the coffin, but it couldn't sense any supernatural aura. It was just an ordinary coffin.
"Continue to go."
Li Leping stood to the side, seemingly not in good condition, with dark gloom slowly emanating from his body.
They had only walked a short distance when two more coffins suddenly appeared ahead. Yang Jian's ghost eyes stared at the two empty coffins, but still found nothing unusual.
But the next moment, when Yang Jian looked away from the coffins to observe his surroundings, another coffin appeared out of nowhere next to the two.
"Yang Jian, there are two more coffins over there."
Yang Jian followed Tong Qian's tearful gaze and saw two old, black coffins lying quietly on the empty road.
"Something's not right." Yang Jian narrowed his eyes, looking at the coffin in front of him.
"The number will increase if we look away... It's not the source ghost, just a medium. There's no point in staying here. Let's keep going."
After the three of them turned another corner.
Before my eyes was a gray-black sky, and rows of decaying black coffins were placed on the black earth, each missing a piece of the coffin lid.
Boundless and endless.
Yang Jian was startled and turned around abruptly. However, Huanggang Village behind him had disappeared, leaving only rows of black coffins neatly arranged on the black earth.
Such an abrupt transition gives one the feeling of being in a ghostly realm.
"What a joke... Even if this number isn't from the source ghosts, it could still overwhelm us."
Yang Jian's ghost eyes twitched uneasily, as if they were being suppressed. This was the third time he had faced the ghost messengers, and each time the ghost messengers' strange behavior made him feel desperate.
"We need to find the source of the ghost, Li Leping, right? ...I don't care about your current state, it's out of our control."
As he spoke, Yang Jian took out a paper banner from behind his back. The banner was tattered and looked as if it would fall apart with a gust of wind. There were many hideous dead heads on the banner, which seemed to move as Yang Jian shook it, emitting mournful howls.
"It's time to act, Tong Qian. Your two faces can be of the greatest use here. I'll need you to suppress these ghost coffins later. I'll cooperate with you. No matter what's inside the coffins, we can't let that thing come out."
Yang Jian, holding the Death Banner in his hand, looked solemnly at the densely packed coffins before him and continued speaking.
"Li Leping, Tong Qian and I will do our best to help you suppress these ghost coffins. You need to find the source of these coffins as soon as possible."
Li Leping nodded. The environment made his state very unstable, but at the same time, the vengeful spirit within him showed signs of being suppressed.
"Understood. I will gradually become unconscious and let the ghost take over my body. I will try to stay away from the two of you. When I find the ghost messenger, I will send a signal. Take this, it can awaken my consciousness."
Li Leping took out a double-sided drum from his bosom. It was about the size of a palm. The drumhead seemed to be made of human skin, and the drum body was bright red, as if it was about to drip blood.
"Hmm? This is the human skin of the human skin lantern? Li Jun controlled the will-o'-the-wisp inside. I didn't expect Wang Xiaoming to make this thing out of human skin."
Yang Jian recognized the human skin; he had seen it before in an underground base at headquarters. Unfortunately, Yang Jian lost control before he could choose the starving ghost.
“Then, I’m going to get started.” After saying that, Li Leping was enveloped in a dark gray haze, like thick smoke billowing from a chimney, carrying the smell of a crematorium burning corpses.
In just a moment, the thick smoke enveloped the countless black coffins. Within the smoke, a charred corpse could be vaguely seen, its body devoid of moisture, resembling dried human flesh.
Miserable and eerie cries and strange laughter echoed in this unknown space filled with ghost coffins. Yang Jian held a paper banner in his hand. Every time he waved the paper banner, the skeletons in it would attack Yang Jian's body along the paper banner, but each attack was blocked by the ghost hand.
After Li Leping began his operation, a figure rose from each of the ghost coffins, standing there stiffly and mechanically, their bodies shrouded in darkness, making it impossible to see their appearance.
"My ghostly realm won't last much longer here... I have a feeling of facing a ghost painting. Is it because of the ghost painting itself?"
Yang Jian watched as the black at the top of the ghost hand slowly disappeared. Even though it had merged with the fake coffin nail, the price of waving the paper banner was almost too much for it to bear.
The paper banner seemed to possess a terrifyingly powerful suppressive ability. Coupled with Tong Qian's crying and laughter, every time Yang Jian waved the paper banner, the figure in the ghost coffin would lean back a little.
"This situation can't last much longer. We have to do something."
Opening the human skin paper, it was still blank. It seemed that even it could not predict what the consequences would be after the collision of the three S-class ghosts. This was the second time Yang Jian had opened the human skin paper, but it had fallen into a kind of silence since he entered this place.
"Useless things."
Suddenly, the thick fog, filled with the acrid smell, contracted rapidly.
"did you find it?"
Yang Jian immediately took out a human skin drum and flicked it hard with his ghost hand.
The human skin drum made no sound; the center of it was dented by Yang Jian's thumping. But Yang Jian could feel that a certain medium was rapidly expanding out of the drum and spreading outwards.
Li Leping emerged from the thick smoke, his body reeking of the acrid smell of burning corpses.
"I failed. I went to at least three Huanggang villages. This place is boundless, like countless Huanggang villages superimposed, giving me a feeling that it will never end."
Li Leping held the human skin drum and looked at the dents on it.
"There's still one more chance..."
"Is there a vast expanse of Huanggang Villages?"
Yang Jian was thinking quickly.
"Impossible. The ghost realm of the ghost messengers could never be this large. The current situation reminds me of the ghost paintings recorded in the headquarters files. Did Wang Xiaoming lure the ghost paintings here before? Did the ghost paintings invade the ghost messengers, or did the ghost messengers gain some of the ghost paintings' abilities...?"
It seems that Yang Jian was born with this talent, this extremely keen sense of the supernatural.
In peacetime, such talent might lead to a life of obscurity, but in this era teeming with vengeful spirits, it is the key to survival. Yang Jian and Wang Xiaoming are both such people.
"The source ghost isn't here, otherwise we would have been attacked long ago. Li Leping, search again, this time we'll go to the ghost coffin!"
After saying that, Yang Jian pointed the paper banner at a ghost coffin, and a ghostly hand threw the person inside out.
The three then jumped straight in, leaving behind only the endless black coffins under the gray-black sky.
If someone were to look down from the sky at this moment, they would see that each coffin resembles a picture frame, its interior dark and devoid of any visible detail, exuding a chilling aura.
