Chapter 10 The Nun [Jane Lovegood]
Chapter 10 The Nun [Janell Lovegood]
Li Yu shook the sword forcefully, removing the remaining bloodstains from its blade, and then sheathed it.
"Sister, are you hurt?"
As he spoke, he bent down and extended his right hand to the nun.
Seeing this, the nun hesitated slightly, then extended her right hand and, with Li Yu's help, awkwardly stood up.
The full moon has risen, and its gentle, watery light bathes the world.
Thanks to the moonlight, Li Yu was able to see the nun's features more clearly.
Upon closer inspection, she was indeed very beautiful.
Her eyes, in particular, are very impressive.
Bathed in moonlight, her purple eyes shone with a luster somewhere between crystal and starlight.
Li Yu was sizing up the nun, and the nun was sizing him up in return.
The nun blinked her beautiful eyes, her face filled with surprise, as she looked at Li Yu's priest's robes.
Are you... a pastor?
As she asked the question, she turned her head, scanning the surrounding corpses with an incredulous look.
Li Yu smiled, unsurprised:
“That’s right, I’m a pastor, but I’m the more hot-tempered type. Occasionally, I’ll rid God of evildoers. My name is Li Yu. Sister, what’s yours?”
“I…I am Jeannell Lovegood.”
"Lofgood...that's quite a rare surname."
After saying that, Li Yu ignored the nun, turned around, squatted down next to the bald man, and carefully searched his body for something.
Li Yu never considered himself a gentleman, nor did he ever presume to be superior. To achieve his goals, he was not afraid to resort to extreme measures.
However, there are a few basic principles that he would absolutely abide by and would rather die than violate, one of which is "never plunder civilians".
Clearly, the bald man and his companions do not belong to the category of "commoners".
Taking their property does not constitute "robbery".
They are dead. Since they are dead, everything they owned is now ownerless.
Can picking up unclaimed items be considered robbery?
I'm just a garbage collector!
Three days ago, after Li Yu killed the group of Irish thugs, he also searched their bodies, but the result was as he expected—would homeless people have money? Those four Irishmen were all extremely poor! They didn't have anything of value on them at all!
The "Wolf Gang" is different; their guns alone constitute a considerable fortune!
Li Yu focused intently on "looting the bag".
Suddenly, a stammering voice of thanks came from behind him:
"Pastor, thank you..."
Li Yu was taken aback, then smiled, waved his hand, and replied without turning his head:
"You're welcome. I was just doing what I could."
He saved the nun only incidentally.
Even without the nuns, he would still find a way to eliminate the "Wolf Gang".
Li Yu's attitude towards these scumbags who bully men and women has always been very clear: only scumbags who die are truly excellent scumbags!
Then, he belatedly noticed that the nun behind him was still frozen in place, looking bewildered and shaken.
To calm her down and ease the atmosphere, preventing it from becoming too awkward, Li Yu took the initiative to strike up a conversation:
"Sister, are you alright?"
"I... I'm fine. I was just... a little scared."
She took several deep breaths, then adopted a serious tone:
"Don't worry, Janel Lovegood is a strong girl."
Li Yuwan'er:
“You’re quite brave, daring to walk at night in this desolate wilderness.” Although Jane claimed she was strong, her facial expression remained stiff.
Upon hearing Li Yu's words, her expression stiffened even more. Helplessness, fear, and a host of other emotions surfaced on her face.
"If I had a choice, I wouldn't want to walk at night either."
"I could have reached the nearby hotel before dark."
"However, a heavy rain this morning delayed my trip."
"Besides that motel, there's nowhere else to stay around here."
"There are wolves in the area, so it would be very dangerous to sleep outdoors."
"Left with no other choice, we had to risk traveling at night."
"I had heard there were no bandits around here, but I didn't expect..."
Jane's words came to an abrupt halt, her expression darkening, the remaining words stuck in her throat, unable to continue.
Thinking back on the scenes that had just unfolded, it was truly chilling.
If Li Yu hadn't shown up in time, she would definitely be in grave danger.
Li Yu subtly changed the subject:
Where are you going?
"I'm going to San Francisco."
"Oh?"
Upon hearing the name "San Francisco," Li Yu raised an eyebrow, his expression showing surprise.
"Are you from San Francisco?"
"Yes, I grew up in San Francisco. I am a nun at the Sacred Heart Chapel in San Francisco."
"If you're from San Francisco, what are you doing here? This place isn't close to San Francisco."
“I…I’m going to retrieve John’s remains.”
"Retrieving remains?"
“Aunt Susan’s son, John, died in a mining accident. Aunt Susan has difficulty walking and can’t travel far, so I went to retrieve John’s remains for her.”
As Jane spoke, she reached behind her and gently stroked the small backpack on her back.
Is Aunt Susan a relative of yours?
"No. To be honest, I'm not very familiar with her. She's a church member who often comes to my church to pray, and she lives in the same neighborhood as me, that's all."
Li Yu paused in his "licking the bag" action, then turned to look at the nun with a surprised gaze.
After a moment, he adopted a tone of reflection:
"In other words, you have no selfish desires and just want to help a complete stranger... Good people like you are rare these days."
Jane said slowly:
“I cannot stand by and watch John’s remains lie scattered outside, causing Aunt Susan to be immersed in grief every day. If I do not help her retrieve John’s remains, I will feel that I am no longer worthy to wear this nun’s habit.”
After saying that, she raised her hand and gently touched the cross necklace around her neck, her gentle expression as if she were recalling something.
Li Yu gave the nun a deep look:
"Although I admire your character, it's really unacceptable that you don't even carry a decent weapon for self-defense when you're out and about."
As he spoke, he looked up at Jane's pocket containing the dagger.
Jane gave an awkward smile:
“I am a poor nun, and that dagger is the most powerful weapon I could find.”
Li Yu chuckled to himself.
"Should I call you brave, or reckless...? Well, I'm going to San Francisco anyway, so let me give you a ride."
This time, Jane looked surprised.
"You're from San Francisco too?"
"No, no, I'm going to San Francisco to find someone. Sister, have you seen a white male around 25 years old with a red skull tattoo on his neck?"
